  • carb cleaner on your fingers. oh no! in california you would have deformed babies.

  • what is a great site to buy auto parts for cheap?

  • @NSTASY ebay is one of the best...

  • m ohms? (milli)? i think that would be considered out of speck? milli ohms?

  • whats the likely hood that the electronics in the houseing of the maf go bad great vid brother

  • once you have broken it with "carb cleaner" you wana let it air dry and then put back in and it........................... will run even worse!!!

  • Before everyone starts a freak out wave. Using (NON-chlorinated) Brake Clean is fine to clean MAF's with in fact it is the SAME thing as MAF cleaner! But, do NOT use choke cleaner as it attacks the plastic!

  • Suzuki Aerio 2003 SX 2.0L. It has the symptom of stalling, sometimes shat down the engine on me and hesitates to move after the worms up. I showed it to the mechanic and he said it’s the MAF sensor problem, a new sensor would be very expensive from the dealer, so can some tell me if there is any aftermarket part available out there for cheap or repair this part anyhow.

    Please kindly HELP me out.

    Thank you.

    Paul

  • @majumder911 All you need to do is clean the MAF sensor like this guy except use a cleaner that says "MAF CLEANER" not carb cleaner or anything else. If your car stalls at a stop sign and your RPM wierd, tell your mechanic (or do it yourself) to clean out the throttle body and the IAC sensor. There's also cleaners that are made specifically for the throttle body and the IAC sensor made by the brand "CRC". People think they need to replace these parts, but really you don't just clean them.

  • HOW STUPID , YOU DO NOT USE CARB CLEANER ON THESE , IT WILL DESTROY THEM , THERE IS A CLEANER THAT IS SAFE FOR USE ON THEM , IT'S CALLED MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER , AND IT'S LOCATED LIKE 2 TO 3 FEET FROM WHERE YOU PICKED UP THAT CARB CRAP !!

  • I must echo previous comments so that no one makes this mistake: do NOT use carb cleaner. Use an electronic component cleaning spray or something made specifically for a MAF sensor. Note that he also said the acceptable range of resistance for this particular sensor was in "milli-ohms" -- this shows that he doesn't know what "ohms" actually are; they are measured in multiples of 10, not fractions of 10. Hopefully, he actually had his multimeter on the correct setting...

  • would break cleaner work

  • @cullen9017 Brake cleaner is the same thing as MAF cleaner! Just don't use choke cleaner because it attacks the plastic! 28 Year Master Technician

  • your description of the electrical issues is a little off. Nothing ever requires "more voltage" to maintain a voltage level. V = IxR I suspect the R changes change the current "I" value which is detected by some electronic circuit.

Not that big a deal, just need to work on your description a little.

  • @montysimmons

I thought I was the only one that got that, it doesn't change the voltage to maintain the voltage but we know what he means.

  • Thanks for the education!

  • That is one dirty battery.

  • That is one dirty battery.

  • good info

    nook n cranny dayton

  • whys ur battery so dirty ????????????????

  • @norabudgie ever hear the expression, "plumbers toilet"? same deal with mechanics cars. lmao

  • @norabudgie ever hear the expression "Plumbers toilet"? same deal with a mechanics car. lmao

  • lol on all the comments that are saying "dont put carb cleaner.." next u are going to say "DONT PUT ACETONE in ur car because it will damage ur car... WHEN MOST IF NOT ALL FUEL INJECTORS have acetone on em... please use our product.. others will damage it for sure..

i used carb cleaner because my car got the check engine and my bro in law said it was the maf sensor so i cleaned it with carb cleaner d/c the batt for over a minute and bamn rough idle gone and check engine gone.. IDIOTS!

  • this is on EHOW... lol how stupid is that ? Carb cleaner on electrical parts ? lol hmmm this guy might work for the MAF companies.. he wants you to buy new ones.

  • @venxxxxx wow carb cleaner really????

  • MAF units use voltage signals but more often they provide frequency information to the ECU. Performance degradation is normal when there is a fault but if your car is shutting off, there may be a temperory loss of signal from other sensors. The codes do not always tell you the primary fault and some faults do not code. It is almost impossible to solve without viewing trace information from a lab scope. check everything including fuel pump and pressure, TPS cam, crank sensor coolant temp etc.

  • Enough with cleaning that. Look at that battery!

  • Enough with cleaning that. Look at that battery!

  • Helpful thanks.

  • just cleaned mine because my car was stalling and mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. car seems to run better but unless it stalls again i have no idea if it worked. either way the MAF cleaner only cost me $5 so any performance gain from it is worth it

  • tamper-proof torx...fat ass

  • yeahh i wouldnt use anything other than a product designed specifically to clean MAF sensors those things are so delecat... stop teaching people how to ruin thier cars and cost them more money in the long run lol

  • If anyone needs a Air Flow Meter- I got a awesome deal at Gardner's Auto Parts in Pompano Beach Florida. They have a awesome web-site. Google them.

  • why not use a Mair flow spray cleaner

  • The engine pollutes the environment very badly. Birds are swimming by curbs and getting contaminated with oil. The gasoline engine pollutes the water and ground because it leaks oil.

  • @heartlessvietboy I would beg to differ. Unless someone does not take care of there vehicle and doesnt replace a leaky gasket or crank seal that doesnt happen. if a vehicle does leak oil it might be one drop every 3 miles.... that aint going to kill any birds....

  • been nice if you tested the sensor before the cleaning too so that you can see the quantitative difference..anyways great video :)

  • Backyard mechanic for sure. This is the type of person we see come into our shop because they can't figure out why their car is running like crap.

  • NEVER USE carb cleaner you need to use electrical parts cleaner carb and brake cleaner leave a FILM on the MAS

  • What should my resistance be for the MAF sensor on my 02 Ford Ranger?

  • @rolexinSydney LMFAO

  • Did he say 11.8 milliohms? Who has an ohmmeter that precise outside of a testing laboratory? I'm thinking he meant ohms.

  • @skyanchor My DMM will measure milliohms to 2 decimal places and that cost me £40 from a local hardware store.

  • i am no expert but i consider myself to be fairly mechanically inclined compared to most. being a maintenance mechanic i deal with a lot of electrical repairs... carb and choke cleaner is not a magical cure all. if youve done it and it worked more power to you. probably not the best idea though thats why they make great cleaners like CRC.

  • @joecobra1234 Joe sounds like you need some anger management. A random guy on a youtube video is as much an expert on electronics as you are on rational discussion. Think about it.

Some carb cleaners contain toluene, this will dissolve glues and plastics. Many contain Acetone, this dissolves plastic.

  • platinum dose not oxidate and do not use a carb cleaner

  • Was better off replacing it,Fords are known for bad mass air low sensors

  • i bought a a crc master airflow sensor cleaner i just hope that wo0rks!

  • hey!! that's a ford escort!!

  • no offence but he is dumb, the reason why am watchin is cz i already sprayed my alfa romeo MAF sensor with carb cleaner, it needed cleanin before but now its totally unusable and the car didnt even turn on... use only MAF sensor cleaner and never touch any wire with something hard! with MAF sensor cleaner it will dry out itself..

  • I am sre the actor said milli ohms when measuring resistance!

  • Thank you very much for informative videos I have question if you dont mind I have 2002 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7L starts and go but wont reachover 2500 RPM what could be the problem?

also it has a filcker oil light stayed on when its worn at full stop then disapear when it moves any help will be apreciated

  • @nidinc does it hesistate when after 2500 rpm? Cold be your catalytic converter clogged. Have someone hold thierhand behind the tailpipe andgive it a rev. if no incresed flow when revved then there's your problem. or you cn take the exaust off before the cat but that is quite loud. if the cat is clogged it will jump to redline quick without it on. ad the same problem.

  • used mass air flow cleaner as recommended!!

  • wat happens when the MAF sensor goes bad?

  • @centralunionhighskoo Rough idle, poor milage, power gaps. ETC. At least that is what happens on my BMW.

  • i have a 96 tahoe and changed the mass air sensor because the truck kept shutting off at start up and code was for maf. after i installed new maf it ran great for about 45min then went back to shutting off and rough idle . i went online and someone said to check egn1 fuse> it was blown then i replaced it> it last for 30min then blew again it keeps blowing that fuse what do i do??? any ideas?? thank you!!

  • hi.. i have a problem with the bosch (maf) for alfa romeo 165 i try to clean it but after a while it gone bad again and i've changed it and have the same problem the car works fine for a day or two and i've changed the car engine and have the same problems...

  • this is kinda like old timers telling you to use wd 40 on your guns. dont do it.

  • What an idiot

  • Use CRC Mass airflow sensor cleaner.

  • carb cleaner and maf cleaner is all the same stuff really, as long as you let it dry out before you put it back than you should be fine

  • Look at the battery man fix that

  • Carb Cleaner??? Never do that to your MAF to all the DIYers...

  • @oyy0 Hell I think brake cleaner would be better than carb cleaner

  • Brake cleaner works just as well as maf cleaner. Electra clean is better, but please don't use carb cleaner.

  • Technical and very informative, however carburetor cleaner is a rather abrasive chemical for that application. Why not MAF sensor cleaner? Everything else seemed to be a careful approach.

  • the resistance is measure through heat. as the cool air passes it cools. ISOPROPANOL is probably best to use

  • @bizzyfingers Well after 20 years in the biz do it every day for a living and useing brake cleaner and or electrical cleaner. It has worked just fine on thousands of maf sensors. Google does not make you smart just a hint!

  • @HunterCO1 i work as an electrical fitter for the traction and rail industry. thats why i know of it. our manufacturer uses the ULS version in a white tin. I did not have to search on google, there is no need to be defensive mate. Im not a threat, i just like to help people, thats all.

    Peace, BIZZY

  • @bizzyfingers no problem but you don't work on automobiles I know nothing about trains and would not comment about something I know nothing about but that is just me. Not to mention show me how you spray brake cleaner from a white tin?

  • @hunterCO1, isopropanol.

  • I also recommend Dipping the mass airflow sensor in johnny walker black, or rather, pouring johnny into a "air"osol pump thing and spraying it on the MAF

  • Always use MAF Sensor Cleaner.... NEVER use Carburetor Cleaner!!! duh

  • @zzzdrill what's the difference between MAF cleaner and carb cleaner?

  • my 96 accord is using up to much gas, do you guys think it might be this sensor is messed up?

  • how do you know its using too much gas? this sensor could be it but im not sure. all i know if its mess up it will use less gas and cause lean. more air then the gas. you will feel way less power than before. but it could cause to unburn fuel and may use alot of gas

  • also get it tune up. check for vacuum leak and tune the air and fuel ratio.

  • Bosh mass airflow sensors usually are already split no cleaning required :)

  • wut if i accidently disconnected it.. an ran my car for about 15 secs.. an reconnected.. will it effect my sensor????

  • I dipped my MAF Sensor in Johnny Walker Black, and the problem was fixed and the car ran great.

    for 10 seconds

  • LOL

  • Ive always been told never to use carb cleaner on a MAF sensor. They sell a MAF sensor cleaner made by CRC at autozone / pepboys etc.

  • No carburetor cleaner! No brake cleaner! No draino! No gasoline! No solvent! Use ONLY Mass air Flow Sensor Cleaner or you will ruin it immediately Buy it cheap at walmart. DUH!

  • INDEED!! Why risk a carb cleaner when you can just use a "mass air flow sensor cleaner". There is a company called CRC that makes one.

  • Do not ever spray carb cleaner or any solvent on a MAF sensor like this guy has just done. A MAF sensor is a sensitive electronic part which requires electronic contact cleaner or MAF cleaner. Carb cleaner contains a lot of crap which will leave a residue and destroy certain plastics and electronics. Don't do what he did.

  • @scrimmo HE IS ABSOLUTELY RITE , NEVER USE CARB CLEANER OR THROTTLE BODY CLEANER, WILL DEFINITELY FUCKUP YOUR MAF,,,,,,,,, ONLY USE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER ,,, THATS IT ,, GOOD TO GO

  • @scrimmo Then what do you use???

  • @scrimmo I did it with carb cleaner and it helped. it evaporated, maybe there are differences between companies that make those sprays, not sure. I can't say it's 100% safe.

  • @scrimmo You're absolutely right!!

  • @scrimmo thats hot

  • @scrimmo Agreed. Won't hurt the hot wire, but all the goodies inside the housing.....yeah, not good for it at all. MAF cleaner only!

  • how often should u change your air flow sensor?

  • you should not have to unless their is a issue with it.

you really shouldnt have to touch it unless it is needed or if your cleaning it which doesn't need to be done often

  • Nice introduction clip, but this is not the best way to check MAF operation by measuring the resistance, you should measure the frequency output from the MAF

  • no no no . you should weld your hood shut. you should never spray carb cleaner on a mass air flow sensor . thats why they invented "mass air flow sensor cleaner" unless you want to blow it out when have to spend $200 on a new one. they are very sensative, water, temp, vibration can all destroy one. and never touch the element. the oil on your hands can wreck it, just like you should never touch halogen light bulbs with your fingers.

  • thanks man 4 this Video well I am gonna try this I hope it works well thanks again because I know zero about cars lol Verry help full keep on posting more videos like this

  • yo i got a 02 Hyundai Sonata and i replaced my stock intake with a Spectre performance intake and i do have the stock MAF sensor on it everything is on sealed tight but my check engine light is on D: could this b another problem?? :( cause b4 it was my intake when i didnt have the sensor on it D:

  • Try resetting the ecu / clearing the code.

If it comes back, then you have a problem.

  • well i kinda now figured out the prob again its a bad clamp on one of the sleeves so i replaced it and tightened it all back up and now its all ok so im all good now :) but thx for ur help :)

  • Very clear, thank you ! This movie saves you a lot of trouble with a bad running engine.

  • Wow! Great video, thank you!

  • I have a Lincoln Ls 2001 v6, is that the same tool for every vehicle???? cause mine is like a star (*) but integrated, weird looking thing.

  • thanks man..i knew that was a escort lol...hey with my 96 lx..there's the torx screws but the one on the top left doesn't have a head pattern..do you have any ideas?

  • Very good and thans so much!

  • thank u so much

  • perdoname snopyyyy

  • Where can I find proper resistance readings for 2001 nissan sentra XE 1.8L?

  • service manual from the dealer
