  • Since you've got nothing better to do than to "check out" peoples profiles and make judgments based on hardly any information, it just proclaims your own retardation and ignorance. You can't judge or deduce a person's being from a youtube account although I would not expect you to have such a complicated thought. I'm not "worrying" and I never said it was unfulfilling. You're truly sad if you actually took time to stalk me. Low intelligence and a creep, enjoy your pointless life.

  • It's called a "cropduster turn" — used to turn around quickly at the end of a pass and get back to work before the finance company can repossess the aircraft.

  • @upajos Actually it is called a hammerhead, cropdusters may call it that but the rest of aviation calls it a hammerhead, and the guy doing those manuevers IS a fool that Helo doesn't have the performance rating to be taking stupid chances like that

  • @KrtBong Except for getting too low and scraping the skids on the sod, there wasn't anything particularly dangerous about the maneuver. UH-1 and OH-6 pilots in the Vietnam War routinely performed it, making a pass over a target and returning quickly to fire guns or rockets. The Bell 206 rotor system is essentially the same as that of the UH-1; as long as positive g-loading is maintained, the risk is low.

  • @KrtBong Ray Prouty referred to this maneuver as a "cropduster turn" in his column in "Rotor & Wing International" magazine. You can find a reprint of the article in "Helicopter Aerodynamics" by Ray Prouty.

  • @upajos I'm sure that he does but in fixed wing it's referred to almost universally as a Hammerhead

I'm not saying it isn't also called cropduster turn but it was invented before cropdusting ;)

  • i wonder why this bell 206 is so popular & is manufactured over 40 years now? is it the sturdy cunstruction & easy to fly maybe? anyone is welcome do a comment.

  • Why are the abysmally stupid so goddamned lucky?

  • @schlusselmensch Everyone makes mistakes. I know a very experienced Apache pilot who backed into another Apache while taxiing out. You might say he was an idiot, but that idiot saved Apache sn: 202 when he lost his tail rotor after the bearing seized. Good people just make mistakes sometimes. I hope this pilot learns from his.

  • @discofishing Give your head a shake. The Apache accident was a mistake, this was jackassing around.

  • @schlusselmensch And I'd have to say jackassing around is a mistake in itself. This looked like a demo at some German/Austrian airshow. Maybe he didn't calibrate his altimeter for field elevation or something. Thunderbirds, Blue Angles, and other demo teams do stunts like this helicopter was doing. They make mistakes, sometimes with tragic loss of life. After something like this, all you can do is rebuke your own mistake and learn from it and hope others do too.

  • @discofishing I'm glad you're not in charge of our flight department, we'd never be able to get rid of the idiots.

It's a freakin Jetbox, not a bloody F-18! A Blue Angel recently handed in his wings because he suspected his own skill was not adequate to the job. Allowing for the moment that there is some sense in displaying a 206 in this manner, altimeter setting would not enter into it. The stunt would be practiced at altitude until success was assured. You wouldn't have to look at the dial.

  • @schlusselmensch Things are little bit different in the Army where we take kids as young as 17 years old (only the exceptional ones) and throw them in flight school. We've had CW2 as young as 19. Nobody is perfect and nobody is expect to be perfect but there is a STRONG mentorship program in place that helps pilots progress effectively. Tax payers pay too much money to train the young men how to fly and just kick them out the first time they're caught grab assing around.

  • @discofishing I suppose the difference is we have to pay for our aircraft and the damage to them. Yours as well, I might add. Here in the commercial world, if news came back that a helicopter had been damaged by a pilot by virtue of a stunt like this (it's been a while but I'll walk next door and see if there isn't a placard in a 206 something to the effect "Standard category, no aerobatic maneuvers approved"), you would be fired on the spot.

  • @schlusselmensch That's as it should be, especially when you're dealing with civilians. As for the military, we all signed up knowing there'd be inherent risks. Sadly, we have something called an acceptable loss ratio which is more than likely for the bean counters and politicians. Still, 90% of the US military class A mishaps are due to pilot error. Jackassing is still considered pilot error and must be combated by any means possible. There are plenty of pilots who lose their wings annually

  • as the saying goes there are bold pilots and there are old pilots but there are no old bold pilots. dumbass. a good hard smack like that forward speed aside im surprised he didn't get spike knock.

  • for those pilots with a brain, learn from this please.

  • @MrWillydoit

Is this true, or are ya just making a point? I do agree with you, that irresponsible treatment of aircraft may affect others who will later rely on the equipment for their lives, but stating that the aircraft later *did* fail because of this... I'd like to see something backing it up.

  • Stupid gerries!

  • really stupid pilot and did u see the way the 206 bounced off it's skids at 0:32 ?? :O it was as if they were springs

  • Just plain foolish and stupid... Luck stepped in this time, hope when his luck runs out he is alone and the ground is clear...

  • This is how stupid pilots kill people.

  • @ mifan93.. Your referring to autorotation and this is definitely not an autorotation manuever, and didn't even resemble one. This is sheer stupidity flying solo, much less with the extra weight of the passengers and close proximity of the crowd. A crash and subsequent fire would have been a disaster for everyone in that video.

  • Bad pilot...

  • This pilot should have been taken out back and strung up.

How moronic was that? And he had passengers in their to boot.

He was $#@! lucky he didn't get a "Mast Bump" from that stupid maneuver or bounce off the ground, otherwise it would have been body parts all over that field (really).

Just Baffles the mind how careless and stupid some people/pilots are.

    Rant Off>

  • Look for that smiling crossbar

  • he came down a little hard but that is actually a saftey manuver incase the engine fails to skid but i do realize this is a little diffrent

  • aerobatics close to the ground - with backseat passengers!!

    not smart

  • At least they enjoyed their day.

For everything else, there's Mastercard. lol.

  • What a fucking ASS HOLE! Those skids are fucked!

  • I fly a Bell 206A every day crop dusting...and it just plain pisses me off to see someone disrespect this great aircraft like this dumb ass. Two ingredients for a certain disaster....an idiot at the controls, and a crowd he's showing off to.I have people stop and watch me all the time, and when they do, i go spray somewhere else til their gone. Also, he had a tailwind coming in and misjudged his approach.Hope he's "retired" and not flying in my airspace.

  • Come on CropDusterMan!!! If it weren't for these idiots, I wouldn't have anything to piss myself laughing over at 2am in the morning!!

  • @CropDusterMan Got to love youtube comments, there's always some gruffled experienced person who has some condescending and disapproving judgment to impose on the world. Sorry, there isn't some great nobility to your shitty crop dusting job.

  • @sharpezor

I checked out your youtube site, looks like the only helicopter you ever come near is on a video game.

Don't worry, I'm not insulted by your ignorance...my job is actually quite fulfilling and financially rewarding,

and don't worry, we'll be out there helping put food on your table, so that when your Mom calls you up from your bedroom for dinner, she can feed you good food.

  • overstressed airframe and skids.....wow this chopper is trashed.

  • What an idiot civilian helicopters are design for forces like that

  • duuuuuuuuuuuuuude! x10

  • well, if there was a major accident, at least there'd be another cool video on youtube.

  • I just did a repair to one that did almsot the same thing. The one I repaired was from a botched auto though. Missed his T/R driveshaft by just over an inch. If that guy had high skids, it would have beena different story. I promise you this he wiped his ass and changed his pant after that one.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sure those skids are smiling after that one. :)

  • Very very very stupid pilot.

  • Good pilot, bad choices. This kind of shit kills people!

  • helicopters can do that

  • ich glaube das war eher ungewollt...

  • how many of you have flown helicopters?like i thought hardly any of you.go get your license then post comments

  • HSAHUSUAHASAUHHAS

OMFG !!! That is a Excelent Pilot.

  • Comment removed

  • @7121895 This is actually a terrible irresponsible jack ass!!!

  • in my minds eye i can see shit stains front right seat...

  • We had a guy try the same in a jetranger , stuffed up, chopped his tail off, killed most of his family.

My old man passed away warm in his bed after a long flying carear and I am still alive and no one has ever been hurt around me, stupid shit like this makes my blood run cold. THE WORST thing in a rescue Heli is having to go out to an Aircraft crash, I even saw hardened men shaken by loosing the Pilot on route to the hospital, then having to strip the aircraft to clean out all his fluids.

  • As the saying goes: there are old pilots and bold pilots, but very few old bold pilots.

  • Jigsaw, well said, its very very true, sad part is how many people the idiots usually take with them.

I just watched it again, 032 you can see the whole tail boom flex. I DO NOT want to fly this aircraft after this idiot has had his hands on it!

  • how stupid can u be!

  • How idiotic is that.

  • its one that got away in WW2

  • I didn't even READ your initial comment! I just commented the video, respectively the pilot. And believe me, my English is well good enough to grasp EVERY sarcasm or humor in English! The English part of my comment was supposed to be an answer to the comment "perfectly legitimate aerobatic maneuver" by 6y298.

Your answer to my comment must be a matter of premature judgement, don't break your head over it! ;-)

  • Zitat: "..wie weit der Pilot gehen kann!"

LOL!

  • perfectly legitimate aerobatic maneuver called the 'skid row' - pilots end up there after performing it.

  • no it aint, I saw in interview with the pilot, He never intended to tuch the skids, it was a mistake he openly admitted to.

It's pressure flying in front of a crowd that causes near misses like this, some times there not near iss, there just crashes.

It was not an intended maneuver in anyway....

  • just curious - you old enough to know when 'skid row' wasn't the name of a band? If you aren't then I'll understand why you clearly missed the joke.

  • It's simply illegal! The Bell 206 is not built for aerobatics and regarding to the manual "aerobatics are strictly prohibited".

This was just a show-off of a crazy pilot who was just lucky not to end up in a crash!

I've got 4500+ flight hours, I know what I'm talking about!

  • Must be a language thing. Don't hurt your head over it - your English is very good, but the sarcasm of my initial comment is beyond your current grasp.

  • i agree with u Dragondicer... this same heli was later in a crash- i believe it was Australia? doing the same stunt and it killed the ppl on board- the pilot is a dumb ass, i mean u dont do stunts wit passengers ( in fact dont do themm at all wen ur not supposed to)

  • Youze crazy Germans!!!! Splat

  • Still a $250,000 mistake over rotate and belly damage harline crack in the drive for the roter wow he pulled hard probably 120-150% over torque...

  • wow that was close - the chopper btw looks like a Wachovia Bank logo

  • Check out the wind sock...Guy did a crop duster turn from going into the wind to downwind...major no no. Misjudged his power..

lucky he didn't kill them all.

  • yep, how did this guy get signed, even in europe. i know that there are rules there too, but come on--common sense people!!!

  • Yes, this was an idiot trying to impress...we read about them all the time in the newspapers. They drive on the autobahn like that also.

  • wheeeeee.... splat... bang... 23 killed...

  • Wow, i would wet myself and drop anchor if i ever flew with this guy

  • jebanec!

  • I wonder if they ever got all of those brown stains off of the seats?

  • Looked like fun to me.

  • looked like i would of crapped my self

  • wtf!!!!! lucky passengers and idiot pilot

  • To the best of my knowledge the 412 is not an underslung rotor. It has a 4 blade fully articulated system. DIfferent than the 2 blade HUey style you are thinking of.

  • Actually the BH412 had two individual sets of rotor assemblies, one two-bladed set stacked on top of the other, rotated 90 degrees. They are a bitch to track and balance too.

  • this time he was very, very lucky...

  • Definetly an idiot, though I don´t agree with any structural damage. On the other hand, he didn´t do any aerobatics just a common "regressive" as if he was spraying over a field or a crop. But in the end... A FREAKING IDIOT! Somebody take his license...

  • Isn't aerobatics (per the FARs) over 60 degrees of bank, and xx degrees of pitch? I think the pilot pretty much entered aerobatic flight profile on pitch alone ;) ... not to mention a host of other "technicals"..

  • I don't believe the FARs apply to Germans flying in Germany...LOL. But you are correct.

  • There appears to be passengers on board! Absolutely

    c r a z y !

  • In the shipping world, inches from crunching is referred to as "smooth". In this case, I would have to call it "lucky"...

  • Wow this guy is an idiot, someone should send this video to Bell so they can cancel the serial number on the airframe. Aerobatics with an underslung rotor head, not smart. Love to be the next pilot who has to fly it...

  • lucky

  • I wouldn't even try this with a freakin' Lynx !!

  • After seeing this, I wouldn't go near it with any intentions of climbing in and flying it. Transmission and drive train were probably ruined as I am quite certain that he probably had an armload of collective applied near the bottom of the maneuver, which, in a 206B, probably overtorqued the piss out of it, nor was the undercarriage designed for a hard landing at 60-plus knots forward airspeed.

  • dont mention the stinger strike either... he probably calls that his automatic leveling device :)
