what the name of that type of loft called? i know its a dormer loft but its using the whole space of the roof where as some are cut of half way or not using all the roof space.
It all depends on the joist centres and how far they span. Also it depends what load they are designed to carry. This is normally worked out by a structural engineer.

@shababsta The big one is typically called a shed-dormer. The little ones are called doghouse-dormers.

18mm flooring and 150x50 joists. Thats in Scotland anyway.
