Oh My Gosh...based on the comments on the video, it sounds like Mr McGrath has passed away...is that true? Could someone please respond and let me know? he was my math teacher at Cleveland (class of '97) and we kept in touch for years after...and then lost touch. I just looked him up on youtube randomly (thinking he might have guitar gigs...and saw a video and was all smiles and thought about calling him...and then read the comments) and then I found this video. I appreciate someone responding.
Sam was a true friend of mine dating back to high school. Hearing the news about Sam was like having part of me die also. We took math classes together and both became math teachers. He went to LA and I to Texas. I can tell by the postings that he was loved by so many and I also can let everyone know that he really was dedicated to his students. He always spoke of them and highly. He loved what he did and the people who came to learn under him---and that was much more than math!
i miss mr. mcgrath. im only a sophomore, but i had him my freshman year and he was the best he helped us understand that not everything is going to be perfect all the timed and that when things get tough we should walk away with our heads held high. the last time i spoke to mr. mcgrath was before winter break. he came into mr. kawamotos 2nd period and recognized me and said "hello miss infante" and then turned to mr. k and said "you have a smart one on board here sir! this ones going places!" :/
I have known Sam for over 20 years. He was a great teacher and a greater person. He always told me how much he loved teaching and the joy he got from his students success. I live in Chicago so Sam and I have kept in touch mostly by phone calls. I am saddened by this news. I hope his students will use him for inspiration for the rest of their lives. My deepest regards to his family and wife. Sam, may you rest in peace and know that you touched so many lives in a positive way.
I wanted to thank Mr. McGrath for everthing he has done and for helping me appreciate many things. What I'll really miss about him is his eccentricity .....Repetition!!!!!
My friend, you are still missed by so many people.

@hazelnutcream Unfortunately, he did pass away. I was a senior that year when we heard the news. Very sad day.

I was so inspired by Mr. McGrath,
that I wrote a poem about him,
if you want to see it,
