Don't be blinded by faith. Do you see any other animals praying, worshiping, etc? No. Only Humans. I'm sorry you can't handle the un-biased, neutral viewpoints of TTC, but theres no need to make a video.
As a Great Courses employee I think you need to actually watch one of our courses instead of getting a sample of the entire course you got off of youtube, then maybe you would find something that you could identify with. You're insulting the teaching company off of "3rd party" perspectives and from your interpretation of the courses you have "watched" I don't think you have given the several professors who teach the hundreds of religion courses a chance. Watch a full course and come back later.
Your statements are illogical in nature. You have no proof of your statements . Just false assumptions about how people should or should not buy the teaching company. You are talking out of your ass.
Also, one must keep in mind that all lecturers have a certain cultural and religious background and world view - thus they will choose what to include and what to leave out, and also they will make different understandings of the same facts. I am a person belonging to a certain religion - not Christianity - and I think that all of TTC:s courses in religion are really great but because of the lecturers cultural heritages they are mainly biased towards Christianity, naturally.
The need to believe in something supranatural may (or may not) be supranaturally inspired, but religions (and their Gods) are man made.
why believe that Jesus is proof of God's existance and not Mithra?
Why not believe in more than one God? Why at times discuss with reason and others invoke faith and divine writings? It is your own choice to believe in those things, a man made choice on man made mental objects.
You allege TTC has an agenda but then acknowledge it is the same agenda held by most universities, that is, not an agenda but simply an area of agreement in which there is little agreement, nothing more than a preference, common to thinking persons regardless of their institutional affiliation, for reason over superstition.
I find the title of your video arrogant because they don't have any errors you simply disagree with them about the origins of religion and you certainly may. Furthermore the argument you suggested that we can prove god mathmatically or thermodynamics and more is beyond ridiculus.
Oh do shut up, i started watching your video because im researching TTC before i buy any lectures. Not because i want to hear someone whine about man vs divine which is an idiotic argument in itself. Keep all "supernatural" things outside the school and inside churches and homes. Secularism is the best thing to happen to the western world.
@seanmPWH please demonstrate how muhammed failed to verify his god's existence? .. if your gonna say islam is not a real religion then what makes your right? can you prove it? prob not.. and this is why your video is invalid (science has proofs, while religions don't). Saying divine origin is the real deal is completely stupid because there are LOTS of proofs that it didnt happen (smallest proof is our DNA match with other great apes; if we were made somewhere else, then why do we match?)
For starters the bible says the Israelis would be thrown out of the land until the end times then they will be gathered back into the land. Jesus specifically said that the temple would be destroyed because the Jews rejected him; secular history verifies these events.
Actually Hell was in use as far back as the Jewish prophet Daniel see Daniel chapter 12 verse 1
You wont find the Teaching Co. offering courses that bring non-Christian religions into question, that's not politically correct, you know.
As far as my proofs for God of the bible they all incorporate the concept that God must demonstrate an extra-dimensional vantage point; Which thing I believe the bible has accomplished.
It's not an unfounded accusation that, for instance, Mohamed contradicts the very prophets he claims to corroborate. How then am I being bigoted?
I studied theology in Holland (Utrecht, Kampen) and France (Aix-en-Provence & Paris) I really like the TCC courses and I completely agree with you on the TTC courses of Theology (espacially of Bart D. Ehrman), but why do you talk in such a booooring way???
Sorry about being so boring. This was one of my first videos. I think I will re-do it. But I'm glad that you agree with me on the faulty reasoning of so many of their arguments.
haha, you've never had a formal education. Really? wow, couldn't have figured that out.. 'auto-didact', please... have you ever listened to unintelligent person try and make themselves sound smart by using big words? i just did.
Fair enough. In fact, it has to be done, otherwise the bible has no credibility. Probably the best piece of evidence I could offer for the non-human origins of the bible, would be it's long record of prophetic accuracy. I would also like to point to it's scientific foreknowledge - which BTW I have a video series on this topic called "scientific foreknowledge in the bible" There you will find my detailed arguments.
Credibility, as far as scientific claims go, is not really where the bible shines. Productive inferences about the workings of the physical world are not the bible's strong point. We do not see engineers picking up the bible to make sure they have their assumptions correct about something they are trying to build.
The bible is very good with moral or ethical issues and matters surrounding questions like "how do all we get along", and much of what it has to say is laced with irony.
The bible, while not intended to be a science text book, is none the less accurate in its testimony to scientific truths. e.g. man being made out of the soil.
Yes, and this is about as useful as saying rain comes from the sky. So does god make the rain too? Come on.
The bible is useful for understanding the problems of people in a somewhat psychological way, just as most novels are, but please do not think that the bible is any kind of useful scientific reference.
You BET it's of human origins. Where do you think religion comes from? The moss? People interpret it. I went to a catholic school. Listen to DM Murdoch. That woman has a LOT TO SAY. Boy does it sound right on.
You've missed my point. To say the bible is of human origins you must be able to demonstrate that the prophecies do not require extra-dimensional knowledge. Bible prophecies display the foreknowledge of event outcomes despite the chaotic circumstances that would otherwise make such foreknowledge impossible for humans.
None of your arguments have any truth value. They involve made-up constructs (i.e. god(s), heaven, hell). Moreover, the word supernatural means nothing.
My justification for including God in my arguments, comes from the fact the the bible has proven it's extra-dimensional origins via prophecy. e.g. history of the Jewish people is foretold and has been accurately played out in real history. This is kind of thing that allows for an interpretation and approach to the bible that gives it's face value accounts credibility.
seanmPWH, you're dumb as fk and ought to do an proper study of fallacies in logical reasoning before coming here and telling us about the truth of the bible.
Their agenda is to sell courses. It was bought by a private equity firm and they could care less what you or any other wacky religionists think as long as you buy their products.
Luke Timothy Johnson and Father Koterski are some of their more popular Christian professors, anyway.
I didn't watch your video all the way through because it was getting a little long winded. What I got out of it is that if I as an agnostic atheist am wrong.....then I'm wrong. That's quite an insight...
Sorry about the long windedness. However there's more to it then mere assertions; specific information used in the content of Teaching Company religious videos is actually incorrect; I have taken the time to delineate these errors.
A bunch of undergraduate athiest whippersnappers on youtube think they know what's up. Keep up the good work.

There are multiple religions that contradict each other.
None of them can be experimentally verified.
They propagate through human communication and are documented in literature written by humans.
Any of them being of an origin we currently do not understand is something that can not be denied as much as it can not be verified.
You should understand, though, that scientific knowledge is composed of what can be verified, not what can not be denied.

I agree with your video 100%
I enjoy and have enjoyed many of their courses, though they are very liberal.
Most colleges are dominated by a humanist presupposition. Other beliefs are not tolerated, which is why you have so many hateful comments.

A pitiful attempt by a true believer to challenge the accepted wisdom of the human race.
A perfect example of that wonderful quote from the film "Religulous":
Faith makes a virtue out of not thinking.

3:49 "Divine origins of region would be very easy to verify to historically." Please verify that for me, and don't use the bible to do it.
Just an ironic point, you say there are 'hellish religions', yet it was not till Christianity that our conception of hell came into being.
That being said, I am going to watch the rest of your clips.
