Hey dude the ST185R wasn't the one that got caught cheating it was the ST205R they had an expanding inlet for the turbos' impeller allowing more air, exceeding allowed inlet size regulations.
Endurance performance engineering at its absolute best. I watched these cars in action in Kenya in the 1980's and the sounds and performance were totally spectacular!!
probably one of the best video clips of safari rally....would like to see how other drivers/cars performed at this very location....was that thunder @1.05....?
Yoshio Fujimoto man i think i was only 11 when i was a spectator in this event but i can tell u one thing this jap could handle a car man no doubt about that
After the 504,Joginders Lancer, the datsuns 1600s & 240Zs,The Celica ruled the rally until they felt pity on subarus who had been trying so hard to finish the safari rally,so Toyota just decided to let Subaru have a slice of the leftovers hahhaa!!Subarus SUCK!
LOL what makes you think anything is gonna change this year? Seeing as the overhaul for the new scooby gives at even more accurate p/w as well as weight distribution, I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon.
Buddy, Subaru/Prodrive officially left the WRC in Dec of 2008 stating the global economy as the reason. It is now just a fight between M-Sport vs Citroen Sport. Did you watch WRC Ireland? There was one privateer Subaru and it was a 2007 spec car. That was it.
And yet it's still competing.... soooo how does "until 2009" justify that? lol My point is merely that it doesn't, as Subaru still has drivers competing in their cars for the WRC.
But it isn't a factory effort? Look bud, there are still Evo's in the WRC if you really think of it that way but were talking about competing for rally and stage wins. On top of that Chris Atkinson is now on the Citroen Junior team and Peter Solberg is without a ride for 09 and in talks with Proton.
Do you just not want to admit you're wrong? I own an 06 STi so don't think i haven't a clue.
I never once stated they didn't pull out as a manufacturer, as they did, along with Suzuki. However there are still Subarus competing in the WRC as you just openly admitted which was my whole point to begin with. And then you come off trying to sound all smart by taking my comment out of context. I'm glad I didn't buy an STi because it apparently causes it's owners to become pompous pricks. I'm quite satisfied with my 2002 WRX Wagon w/6 spd & STi H4 swap.
Um, Actually im cool guy if you ever meet me. Anyways, look man, a factory team is a factory team. There is no getting around that. Privateers dont win modern rallies.
If you look VERY closly there is a streak of blue where a subaru jumps over the celica, lands in front of it, parks, has a picnic and then takes off...Celicas are actually pretty cool but Subaru WRX STi owns..
thats may be the case in another rally but in the safari the toyota celica was is and will be for a while the safari rally expert and thats because of the reliability and strength of the car unlike a sti which u need to nurse through conditions like this because of its intercooler and turbo system
i like my subie just the same. however the toyota cars are tough as nails. we love toyota here.
