thety tried this with inception and although it was good, they didnt really hit the mark im looking for ,im looking alfred hithcock level with inception or matrix, inception although a good movie was clearly not this.
take a lot of skill to fuse them together (although some may think that play on psychology is itself high concept, high concept and 'smart' being intertwined, but its not the type of high concept you see in event horizon or the matrix, its the theater of psychology---someone needs to make a sci fi psych thriller, like the birds but with the matrix = mind acid explosion)
whats weird is that brainy or smart movies are seldom high concept, they mostly have to o with character twists and play9ing with human psychology...it would be interesting if someone could fuse a high concept thriller, sci fi, and a smart plot...
usually they dont go togher..think of all the sci fi movies and youll see the plot generally is lame..alien, terminator, but they are fun to watch.
high concepts usually take up the space for smart twists and intrigue...so it would
than the ones i mentioned. even if they were not at all the most brainy movies. matrix and inception reigh supreme though, as far as popular culture, when it comes to the high concept genre for the previous decade.
other bad, but high concept movies are dark city, the 13th floor, and sphere. There is also 'the cube' tbut thats one notch down from those movies.
they are all pretty crappy movies but have intriguing/high concept ideas (although of course, quite dumbed down)
recent movies of this tyep of course include the matrix and inception, there are also psych thrillers like 'the birds' (old movie by alfred hitchcock) that fall in this genre, but these movies are of considerable higher quality
however i find the concept of the gravity drive appealling, especially for sci fi genre, or anything having to do with the mind or a machine bending space and time. I also like the whole narrative on insanity that is portrayed in dr weir's character. But besides that it was just a bad b movie that turn into an a movie if you are in a pinhead mood, for the samer eason people use to watch aqua marine hunger force or ghos in the shell (which i sstil to, except for aqua marine--total mind crap)
look--there is very little reason to think things through when it comes to event horizon. It was a stupid movie---it had some enthralling moments, barely, due to jeff goldblum, but otherwise its just an all and all stupid ass movie with capital A
i was so confused with this movie i mean wut is it about? a space horror flick and the space ship can someone explain to me wut this movie is about and wuts wrong with the ship i mean is it haunted cause i was super confused when i saw it
@Strivenigga The ship went to a evil dimension who some consider to be hell and the crew were either killed by the evil inhabitants of the dimension or possessed and killed each other. The ship comes back and is possessed by an evil life form. That life form then possesses Dr. Weir.
@BlackGold691 i dont know about that..i mean I am assuming you watched the movie but when they watched the video in the captains log, we see that they instantly turned cannibal when they arrived in the other side of the universe...Idk tho..i love the movie tho :D very creepy
@123trymeout My theory is they were either possessed or their mind set was stripped down to the 'r complex' or the reptilian part of our brains that houses destructive and base behaviors. Sorry to ramble on. I love the movie too but it left more ?s than answers.
If I become morbidly rich in the future and WS Anderson is still alive at the point, I'll fucking fund him on a shot-for-shot remake of the original 130 minute version, restoring the film to its gory glory. I'll meddle the hell out of the production so they don't fuck up!
This has got to be one of the WORST movies ever produced. I just finished watching it, and i feel like my IQ dropped in half. This movie used every horror-film cliche known to human-kind! And nothing, i mean nothing makes any sense what so ever. If you make the mistake of watching this, be sure to listen to the music that plays when the credits roll. And have a gun/pills/razors or something near by, you'll feel the urge to use them.. believe me on that one.
@iRSleepy I think your IQ must have dropped a long time ago. Have a gun/pills/razors nearby because you'll feel the urge to use them? Not OH&S certified I take it.
the trailer doesn't do the actual film justice.......this is undoubtedly one of the greatest pseudo indie space-terror films ever written and produced......not everybody's cup of tea for that matter....heh :)
@fightinside1 It isn't that bad. I'm not a huge gore fan and I found it more than tolerable. It's nothing like Saw or any type of torture movies nowadays. There is nothing extremely graphic (save for one or two scenes...you can close your eyes or something =p)
It's quite an interesting movie. Don't let peoples comments or reviews turn you away from it...the violence and gore isn't as bad as people make it sound.
Most disturbing parts in my opinion: that one crew member that could speak Latin getting his insides cut out and the video log from the previous crew. Most disturbing imagery ever!
@Chickensaretasty157 You should ask "Where is the Event Horizon?" while playing Dead Space :P That game-series is basically MADE for fans of this movie, it's so similar in many ways (the sound, the ship, the characters, the plot points).
so many people below are saying that the trailer gives away everything. i had high hopes watching this movie after the trailer, however, the movie exceeded my expectations. wayy scarier than i figured, all around great movie, definatly watch it!
so it was around 1995 that they began making trailers that would go through the whole movie's story, so that you have absolutely not curiosity to see it afterwards.
Excellent movie. I've never been this disturbed and scared at the same time. The portrayal of a dimension 'much worse than hell' was beyond disturbing.
I know one thing... if I was captain Miller... as soon as I would arrive aboard the Event Horizon and see the blood all over the walls, I would get my ship fixed asap, leave the Event Horizon, blow it up and call it a day.
Well I've seen the movie fo the first time and it wasn't that bad. The acting was cheesy, but I was in the mood for that, and was excatly looking for a cheesy horror movie and this satisfaied me. The explanation as to how all this happens was a bit better then other movies I saw, where they just say ITS A PORTL!!!1
As far as the cares go they were mostly jump scares, but the imagery was distrubing. I would say much more, but Youtube has this retarded limit with how much you can write.
@bluebankai061464 Yeah and then add the direction of Paul Anderson and you have a huge toilet floater of a movie that just won't flush away. Still good trailer.
@maximkazhenkov11 The crew would have come back to Earth happy and fulfilled with the brightly lit and friendly event horizon towed behind them and the cheerful crew clinking champagne glasses to the success of their mission. But then the movie would have been over in 15 minutes...

yeah i agree on that one.I guees its too hard to understand stuff like that.Missing ship, which went over event horizon and come back with missing crew, hallucinations of rescue crew, and then final act with devil possesed crewmember who tried to pull remaining survivors to hell. One of better movies out there, despite some faults.waaay better than most of nowadays sci fi horror movies.
love your answer. that is so true. if they watched the uncut version with Sam Neil's spider shimmy down a ladder shaft drenched in blood and scars from hell over him: they would have banned it like Evil Dead 1 and 2
Now this scifi movie has to rank as one of the best space odyssey films made! Neill, Fishburne really carried the film. Been a fan of them both since then. The film is so edgy, dark and one just can't figure out what happens next. It really borders what we think we know of the universe. When will a sequal be made, and a sequal that will do justice to the original, with the same actors again pls!
@MrMikeTheDude The whole subject of a gateway to hell being discovered, for the ship in Event Horizon and on Mars for DOOM. In fact, there are sound effects used in the movie that were used in DOOM (a door opening and closing). I just think it would be ironic if the creators of Dead Space did copy from this movie at all (since I don't know if they did for a true fact).
@jakproductionsgc Wel,i don´t know if you played the game but basically all the little thighs like the "Heart" of the ship represents an evil object are there. In the game is known as "The Marker"(Just like in the movie provokes suicides in the crew, dementia and hallucinations driving everyone to madness)Even in the beginning of the game the ship that suppose to save to or rescue the crew crashes in to the ship (USG Ishimura in the game) but so called "Event Horizon" in the movie.
i found this horrible i will never forget the time the real crew of the event horizon were screaming and a guy spewed out his body parts....shudders...
@yojez Couldn't have put it better myself. It is genuinely disturbing, a true horror flick unlike the teenage crap that hollywood usually sh*ts out.
I will never forget that scene with Justin in the airlock: "It shows you things...horrible things...the Dark Inside me from the other place...i won't go back there... I won't....if you could see the things i've seen, you wouldn't try to stop me.."
Only one movie ever creeped me out more than this. Hint: One, two, Freddy's coming for you...
note to self: never go to the "chaos" dimension.

Wow, reminds me of Dead Space. Only in Dead Space these huge alien zombie things tear the crew on this ship limb from limb...

Dead Space game officially copied this movie almost to the detail.

@MrMikeTheDude Kind of ironic, for this movie was inspired by DOOM.

@jakproductionsgc How come?
MrMikeTheDude 7 months ago

@MrMikeTheDude All in all, a very interesting chain of events. From game to movie, and from movie to game.

This movie has got to be the most disturbing movie I have ever seen. High octane nightmare fuel at it's best. Epic.
yojez 7 months ago 4
@yojez Couldn't have put it better myself. It is genuinely disturbing, a true horror flick unlike the teenage crap that hollywood usually sh*ts out.
I will never forget that scene with Justin in the airlock: "It shows you things...horrible things...the Dark Inside me from the other place...i won't go back there... I won't....if you could see the things i've seen, you wouldn't try to stop me.."
Only one movie ever creeped me out more than this. Hint: One, two, Freddy's coming for you...
