Does the reporter realize the conditions of Texas Prisons under Estelle. I just got released and there are no comforts whatsoever. Oh yeah, the ice cream pints are $ 1.75 and there has not been pornographic magazines since July 2005. Shit , i say keep the fuckers outside for 12 hours . At my unit they used to get two hours for rec and they would always bitch about rec . Well when they'd get out there they would bitch about it being too hot . I work at a air conditioned private jail/prison .

Let me be real with everyone - Texas prisons are only as bad as you make it. If you work and follow the rules as stated in the offender orientation handbook, your time will be fine. However if you act up, fight, and cause shit then your entire stay in TDCJ will be hell.

My hosband told me when he worked at a jail it felt like he was locked up with the inmates an that it does make you feel like you wanna go crazy cuz all the energy an all the crazy things that happens in there.

Also, if it an actual emergency (a real heart attack, etc) the $100 is not charged.

it's rare the guards treat the inmates like they'd want to be treated. Even when you go and visit, the guards treat you like you're one of the ones behind bars. If you treat them with respect, then I'm not directing this towards you. But the guards that use their job as a power trip is a different story. The whole point is for the inmates to learn from their mistakes while they're in there, not make them worse and hate the system more

My best advice on how to not get treated like an offender is to not come to prison. Unlike Crazyhorse, I do not treat offenders the way I want to be treated; I treat offenders like convicted felons over whom I am paid to enforce the will of the State of Texas. If said convicted felon is not breaking any of the rules that the state pays me to enforce, then I have nothing to say to that offender. On the other hand, if he is breaking a rule, then I use the tools given to me.

A prison sentence is supposed to be a punishment. That why a verdict of guilty for a crime was placed on the man there. Instead of putting the guys in the so called prisons, put them back in a society where vigilante justice can deal with them. That'll free up plenty of beds in these places.

@thenextorion Wrong, commissary purchases are often cheaper than free-world. For example, a 12oz can of Dr. Pepper is less than $.50 Pints of Blue Bell ice cream about, perhaps a little less than free world prices.

Prices have gone up thought, on my unit the ramen used to be $.15
