They write really good prechorus climbs and and the entire song "climbs" well, which you can only do with a singer with such an extensive high range.
Throw in a modulation for the last chorus (which you can only do with a singer like Air Supply's) and you have a really catchy song that really builds to a climax. Fantastic songwriters.
