Love this old song. A friend is getting married with this as the theme song-she's way past retirement age and met her future husband on line! I think it's great and I love her dearly. She's a dilly too.
This reminds me of riding in the old car with my Grandparents when we would listen to a CD of Burl Ives. Waltzing Matilda, Mockingbird Hill.. then we would burst out into song when ever this came on. :')
The age group from about 65 to about 50, I believe, is hardest hit emotionally by this song. Look at the comments. The Ives song is so innocent, and so proper, and his low, reedy voice is compelling!
what an ancient voice that man has. when i was 5 i heard this on a 45 and a 33 record from disney. i still have that but lack the phono to play it on. great memories!
I used to have a tape with the soundtrack for a bunch of random Disney Songs, which included this song and Zippity-Doo-dah. It took me forever to find them again, but I finally have.
WOW, I cried like a baby!! My cousins and I watched this all the time at my Grandmother's and she would flit around the house singing this while she cleaned... I miss her... Thank you soo much for the video!!
My dad and I have always danced to Lavender Blue since before I could even walk. I'm now 30 and we still dance to it if we're at his house and it comes on my daughter's CDs. We even danced to it at my wedding. Love you Daddy!
I have a 78 of that and it was sung by Dinah Shore and it was the best version next to Burl Ives. I do Dinah Shore's version soon in my video response.
This is the song that I am going to play for my first dance at my wedding.

I'm going to sing this song to my children as a lullaby. :)

It makes me sad that these days, there is no music like this and no one anymore like the great Burl Ives to sing it.

Is that Burl Ives singing? I swear it sounds a lot like him and given the time period that'd be about right.

@mountainhun Me too! It also had the Raindrops song from Bambi, and Someone's Waiting For You from The Rescuers. I bawl like a baby when I hear them.

Burl Ives also did the voice of Sam the Eagle in "America Sings" at Disneyland.

Sam the Eagle from the Muppets?
b4ifly2paradise 3 years ago
No, this is much different. The Muppet version of Sam the Eagle is voiced by Frank Oz.
