  • Tremelo picking? This dude takes the cake...

  • You cut this off at the shittiest moments.

  • Eh, fucking virtuoso in action. Priceless. Tom Jenkinson's the fucking daddy. Then he gets all latin at the end. LOL What a FUCKIKNG performer. Yeah, I don't have any other word to describe his "thing". FUCKING great. Yeah, I screamed it. I mean, what FUCKING planet are you on where this doesn't stimulate the senses. I'll FUCKING tell you somfin mate. This droog has his flams welted up, eh?

  • @consciousnesswarrior I'm FUCKING copyrightin the last sentence.

  • How the fuck do you get a Zoot bass confused with a Rickenbacker?

  • @driggswv wasn't this a hendrix tribute show?

  • @styloah No it wasnt..just a jam around castle at the end of the show...

  • This is why I really like Tom's electronic stuff -- he's a musician first. All the scrappy bitwork stuff is based on formal training as a bassist and performer. RD James has neat songs, but there's a solidity and grounding in Tom's work that's obvious in his compositions.

Besides, who'd be cooler live? No comparison... Tom for the win.

  • damn castles made of sand squarepusher style

  • my god this man is amazing... why haven't I listened to this before? a TRUE musician/master of his craft... to witness this is beyond humbling.

  • I looked at a top (200) list of best bassists just to see if he was on it. He's -nowhere-. Makes you wonder how far-off the list is. No matter how subjective the matter is, you cannot deny this guy is AT least in the top 200, and in my opinion, he's up there with Claypool at first. Just fucking brilliant.

  • I didn't know the bass was capable of doing what it just did in the last 30 seconds of the video...

  • @jpprindle He really does know how to wank his bass off though, slaps it around like a piece of meat even >_>

Some of his bass stuff is really sweet though, when its not so self indulgent...

I wish he'd play Theme from Sprite live.

  • sick player, very creative songwriter even just playing these solo works. really interesting chord and melodic choices and cool rhythmic stuff all over the place. i love the dude. the way he approaches slapping is really similar to the way i do ( really advanced comping while keeping a bass line in there somewhere i suppose he he).

  • Bach of bass!

  • well of today

    Bach was a bassist himself

  • Most beautiful bass playing ever... seriously, that's just absolutely stunning. Gives me goosebumps every time.

  • so talented. I love the airy part that starts around 2 minutes!!!

  • this guy is great!

  • This is some ace playing but i gotta say i prefer his funk based stuff.

  • Awesome

  • fuckin amazin

  • That is NOT a Ric.....

It's a custom made Zoot bass from UK luthier Mike Walsh.

  • THANK YOU

ive been looking for that luthier

  • thomas is such a champion :)

  • the song at 2.30 is stuning, he should bring out a download albumn of just solo bass music, dude any way you could upload more of this gig? and for the other people i think its a custom bass. not a rickenbacker lol

  • Hi all!

Sorry I didnt took the time to answer your messages.

Well I have the entire show in a tape. Just saw Square will release a cd in August for those who are interested.

I will try to take time to put another part...

(by the way it's a zoot bass u egg ;)

    YO!

  • warp is releasing the live recording of this show in august. it's a limited print, so go order it! mm mm

  • @fakeharmonic he made an album called Solo Electric Bass or something...

  • wish it wasn't such cut up footage, but happy i saw it.

    thanks!

i could watch him for hours.

  • I'd probably shit myself if he was reading off a score ^^

  • WHAT KIND OF BASS IS THIS?

  • a rickenbacker

  • there's also a thing called a 11 string bass :) look it up N000000BS

  • derpaderp nub lololol

  • FUCK YEAR RICKENBACKER!

  • whats the name of that first song? the same who he plays in the interview? does this song appears in any of his albums??

  • it IS a bass guitar

  • does he do drugs

  • it is

  • there is such a thing as a six string bass

    and it rocks

  • fool

  • lol

  • and say wat YOU want, ur a prick

  • lick my left nut and make the right one jealous

  • Grade A deuce and a moron..

  • its a bass, u egg.

  • Holy crap, at 3:14 he starts playing Hendrix's "Castles Made of Sand"! What a bad ass.

  • i know to the discograpy of both: claypool is virtuoso funk style (he know jazz bass theory), TomJ is not a bassist, he's much more..

  • oh well done. a pat on the back for you.

  • f*** u

  • haha, twat

  • Does anybody know if that tremolo section can be heard anywhere else? The bit at 1:49; it rather blows my mind.

  • sorta sounds like sinister minister, eh?

  • Les is great but that's comparing apples to oranges. Tom is just as creative and different to the norm but in a completely separate style.

  • wow... Les Claypool huh? You obviously need to be schooled a little more in real music. Squarepusher is WAY more creative and original. He is in another stratosphere.

  • Yeah maybe you could say Squarepusher is more creative because he is playing in a less conventional way but someone "who is schooled in real music" may very well enjoy Les Claypool more since his playing -is- actually cleaner, which makes it even harder to compare.

  • you also don't know what you're talking

  • cos you really can compare can't you? no, you can't. two different styles. have you heard of victor wooten? who would compare him to? marcus miller perhaps? or jaco pastorius? how about cass lewis? fuzzy haskins maybe? it's not about schooling, it's about good music. just enjoy it!

  • you also...

  • you do not know what you're talking

  • Claypool is very good but Jenkinson still goes a few better. I saw this show @ the other date in London and nothing in this video quite reflects the obscenity of some the playing Jenkinson was doing that night. I'm a proficient musician and I was pinching myself to make sure I wasn't imagining some of it, believe.

  • do you know what, they're all different. all these great bassists. they're all good, all in their own way. like what you like and listen to as much as possible. some of the people on here seem to think they know more than anyone else about music. as long as you like it, that's all that matters :)

  • Of course, ultimately it's personal taste but in a world where some people think the drummer from Blink 182 is better than Buddy Rich, we must see that some standards are upheld.

  • Yes....Tom is a bona fide bass god!!!

Loved his take on Castles Made of Sand-I can't get enough!

  • Guess I should have read adhurkhan's comment before saying that.

  • 3:13, is that Castles Made of Sand I hear?

  • Sure sounds like it! At 1:46 I hear the beginning of The Beatles - Blackbird. Right after those first 3 chords the vid is cut though, so it might as well be just coincidence.

  • who can find a riff from jimi hendrix in this? whoever does first earns my respect :D

  • as axolotl84 said in his comment : "that castles made of sand bit at the end, just wow"

  • damn, i tought noone noticed it before me:) very good bass player btw

  • Tom Jenkinson and Tony Royster Jr. should do a collaboration album of live stuff. Totally spasmadicated stylee.

  • supposedly theres going to be a jenkinson/herbie hancock/brian eno collab album at some point (i know they were all jamming together a year or so ago, whether they recorded any of the sessions no one seems to know) which would be rather splendid (if it ever does come about)

  • thanks

  • More please!!!

  • HAHAH

  • thanks a lot for posting this, it's great to see mr. jenkinson perform ball crushing bass antics.

  • mate you an absolute legend for putting this up, any chance you could post up some more bits from the gig? or are these the best bits. i could sit and watch this for hours, that castles made of sand bit at the end, just wow.

  • what the bastard is this song called? he hasnt released it has he? PUSHER YOU CUNT!

  • well considering it's a solo bass song... i wouldn't say he's released it under "squarepusher"

  • theres plenty of solo bass tracks on squarepushers albums you mule.

  • really? hit me up with a list of tracks

  • there's like at least 3 on Ultravisitor.

  • wow where did you get this from
