This song is very bittersweet for me. When I heard it when I was a kid it was comfort during a lot of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.. His voice in this song was so haunting and comforting. Then when I became heavily addicted to drugs I played this song envisioning the apocalypse hoping I would die before having to get another fix. Now after all of it I find myself clean listening to this song and it partly takes me back to those moments. Other times it opens a new chapter..
@TheMorrigan83 don't you think it's a bit silly to be telling your life story over the internet to no-one in particular? i'm sorry to hear you had such a terrible life but seriously, if you need help, go get some counselling or something, don't shout it out on youtube.
@TheMorrigan83 calm down man! i was just trying to point out you probably shouldnt be telling everyone you had a drug issue and that you were abused. kinda a bit personal to be sharing with everyone dont you think? I dunno you do what you want. I wont say anything else.
@isaacwilk Ok this is the last thing I will say. what someone posts on here when no one can see your face find your email or facebook doesn't matter. People have stories to tell sometimes telling them to complete strangers is a good outlet. I mean people spend money on books with even more fucked up story lines. People write music with even worse story lines. How is my anonymously telling a chapter of my life affecting you? What makes you care?
@plaqud this isn't about his car. i don't even know how you could think that! this song is about a person who is cold and hard to relate to. the line "i've never seen you when you're smiling" gives it away.... and also the vocalist, rob dickinson, said it himself.

I wish somebody would post that song. It's awesome, & I haven't heard it in years.
screw the lyrics, this is the soundtrack to the last unicorn standing at the edge of a glen surrounded by heavily armored and armed knights and soldiers, and the unicorn knows his fate is nigh, so he lowers his horn and it glows and tears drop from his eyes and strike the stones and explode into impossibly beautiful colors, then he raises his head and thunders across the meadow at unbearable speeds until he becomes a white blinding flash then he dissipates to nothing. Swords drop.
I agree with most of these people. I'm in my early 30s and never even fucking heard of Catherine Wheel or this song in Detroit. There was just too much good music out then for radio stations to really 'dig' for other shit. I wish I woulda heard it when I was younger though cuz this song totally kicks ass. I like the video too.
@junnybungle That's right man. Not many people know that. Also, a Catherine Wheel and an Iron Maiden were both torture devices in medieval times. Makes u wonder what kind of games they played as kids :D
@Rousoule Haha, well I'm not sure if Iron Maiden influenced the name for him. But Bruce didn't name Iron Maiden, Iron Maiden. It was the bassist Steve Harris :p
My dad got me into Catherine Wheel. He used to play it loud enough to shake the house. I'm listening to it in my headphones right now, and it's like I can't get it loud enough. It sounds good as is, but something about it being loud as hell brings tears to my eyes.

Too bad these guys never got a chance in America. I'm from Detroit, "Rock City" and I never heard this song growing up in the 90s. With the way that rock sucks nowadays, it is ashame that alot of bands with real talent back then got overlooked by the huge bands like like Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etcetera. Thanks for posting this whole song. I fucking hate editing!(the video is edited for time)
