  • over and over. never gets old. top 5 for me

  • G, Aminor, F. very sexy.

  • This song is very bittersweet for me. When I heard it when I was a kid it was comfort during a lot of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.. His voice in this song was so haunting and comforting. Then when I became heavily addicted to drugs I played this song envisioning the apocalypse hoping I would die before having to get another fix. Now after all of it I find myself clean listening to this song and it partly takes me back to those moments. Other times it opens a new chapter..

  • @TheMorrigan83 don't you think it's a bit silly to be telling your life story over the internet to no-one in particular? i'm sorry to hear you had such a terrible life but seriously, if you need help, go get some counselling or something, don't shout it out on youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMorrigan83 calm down man! i was just trying to point out you probably shouldnt be telling everyone you had a drug issue and that you were abused. kinda a bit personal to be sharing with everyone dont you think? I dunno you do what you want. I wont say anything else.

  • @isaacwilk Ok this is the last thing I will say. what someone posts on here when no one can see your face find your email or facebook doesn't matter. People have stories to tell sometimes telling them to complete strangers is a good outlet. I mean people spend money on books with even more fucked up story lines. People write music with even worse story lines. How is my anonymously telling a chapter of my life affecting you? What makes you care?

  • @TheMorrigan83 Congratulation on getting clean. This song has all kinds of emotions.

  • tune kicks ass never get tired of it 3 people are retarded

  • tune kicks ass never get tired of it

  • This song was the only good thing I got out of watching S.Darko.

  • I love this song and I can't believe it is about his car!! :) great tune thanks eighties for some great memoriable songs.

  • @plaqud this isn't about his car. i don't even know how you could think that! this song is about a person who is cold and hard to relate to. the line "i've never seen you when you're smiling" gives it away.... and also the vocalist, rob dickinson, said it himself.

  • TRULY A PIECE OF ART. Cool and smooth as the lyrics. As beautiful as the melody...

  • Beautiful.Dreamy.Moody.Eternal

  • ah, the memories...

  • Great stuff

  • ……. a love song for a returning (or leaving) Anunnaki lover as Nibiru nears anew … THANK you for posting this gem of a ditty, MarkTurver1990 … as transportive now as when I 1st heard it in '91 …

  • Heard this on WBER the other day!!

    Great!!

    Mike

  • This song never gets old. Just put it on repeat and turn it up to 11.

  • 4:35-7:20 ! Puts me in a euphoric trance when listening with my Sennheiser HD580s.Can't wait to play this song on a new (soon to be mine) EPIPHONE ES-335 semi-hollow body!

  • Man, for a couple years now, I check every so often to see if anybody's posted God Inside My Head... & nada. =/ It even comes up in the search bar when you get as far as "Catherine Wheel God..."...

I wish somebody would post that song. It's awesome, & I haven't heard it in years.

  • screw the lyrics, this is the soundtrack to the last unicorn standing at the edge of a glen surrounded by heavily armored and armed knights and soldiers, and the unicorn knows his fate is nigh, so he lowers his horn and it glows and tears drop from his eyes and strike the stones and explode into impossibly beautiful colors, then he raises his head and thunders across the meadow at unbearable speeds until he becomes a white blinding flash then he dissipates to nothing. Swords drop.

  • @TubobRainbowUnicorn awesome :)

  • @TubobRainbowUnicorn Best explanation ever.

  • I agree with most of these people. I'm in my early 30s and never even fucking heard of Catherine Wheel or this song in Detroit. There was just too much good music out then for radio stations to really 'dig' for other shit. I wish I woulda heard it when I was younger though cuz this song totally kicks ass. I like the video too.

  • Love love love

  • I just heard this song on the radio .. I went in Love ~!

  • @noonaYasosa

    Me too................

  • Mate just showed me this band, so far I'm enjoying it except the drums. To loud and noisy for the actual guitars.

  • Singers name: Rob Dickinson - The younger cousin of Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of the legendary band IRON MAIDEN.

  • @junnybungle That's right man. Not many people know that. Also, a Catherine Wheel and an Iron Maiden were both torture devices in medieval times. Makes u wonder what kind of games they played as kids :D

  • @Rousoule Haha, well I'm not sure if Iron Maiden influenced the name for him. But Bruce didn't name Iron Maiden, Iron Maiden. It was the bassist Steve Harris :p

  • One of my all time favs. Saw them a dozen times. For similar music recs, check out alternapop dotcom.

Whoever made the Cranberries comment has to be joking.

  • Holy God, how I love the moment @ 6:05. How it leaps out of that silence to punch you in the gut. Brilliant!

  • @BillF1967 Yep. 6:05 is epic ass kick.

I'm an old dude, and this actually sounds sort of Led Zeppelin-ish to me.

  • i've just dicovered them and this song is fucking amazing...

  • great song thanks for posting :)

  • Thanks for posting the REAL version, not that short "Thing"...

  • This song has turned up on the radio in SoCal a lot recently... ~:^) Sometimes the Universe throws you a bone.

  • oh my god, the nostalgia HURTS

  • Thanks funkpoppy!

  • I utterly love this song. I hate the dumbass label of "shoegaze" though.

  • Ultimate make out song.

  • My dad got me into Catherine Wheel. He used to play it loud enough to shake the house. I'm listening to it in my headphones right now, and it's like I can't get it loud enough. It sounds good as is, but something about it being loud as hell brings tears to my eyes.

  • @LosingBravo Your Dad uses the correct formula! Your headphones cannot compensate!

  • @RojekSoram568 Sad Bulgarian cunt fuck off!

  • BrodyCobb...sorry.....its just the opposite.."Black Metallic" came out on 'Ferment' EP in 1991 & Cranberries "The Rebels" off 'To the Faithful Departed' EP in 1996

Catherine Wheel are the incredible originators here.... athough "The Rebels" is amazing too!

  • this is a musical ripoff of the Cranberries..."The rebels"

  • @BrodyCobb

Sorry BrodyCobb.....its just the opposite......."Black Metallic" came out on 'Ferment' EP in 1991 & Cranberries "The Rebels" off 'To the Faithful Departed' EP in 1996. Catherine Wheel are the incredible originators here...and Cranberries ripped this one.... athough "The Rebels" is nothing short of amazing too!

  • shoegazing ftw! ever and ever!

  • oh god....I'm in high school again.....love every second....thanks for posting.....

  • FUCKING great song my god

  • Guitar players, does anyone know what stomp box I can use to get the sound heard on the rhythm guitar (during the opening)? Thanks!

  • @alipopo: use an old Boss® Flanger, going into an amp set for a little dirty overdrive. Garnish with mild reverb and serve.

  • @funkpoppy I want to eat that :)

  • This song is so perfect for quiet earl mornings while getting ready for work. I bet it's also great for quiet evenings.

  • Hi Notawesom...

What? If you think I meant that only Blacks listen to rap, you're wrong.

  • Wow, I came across this by coincidence when watching a fanvid someone made for a sequel to Redeye. I thought maybe the Catherine Wheel was new, but nope, 90's band, the best band.

  • Fucking mind-melting song....

  • Thanks for posting! A newer group called "Stars of Track and Field" remind me of them.

  • Can anyone please recommend some excellent Shoegaze to someone new to the genre? I only really know of Catherine Wheel and The Sleepover Disaster.

  • @AExodus7 you would probably like to check out My Bloody valentine then, their album Loveless is probably one of the best shoegaze albums ever made.

  • @AExodus7

Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Screen Vinyl Image, Airiel, Lush, Ride, Asobi Seksu, Moose, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pia Fraus, Brief Candles, Secret Shine.

  • @JigokuKitty You forgot Chapterhouse !

  • @AExodus7

The best shoegazing records are (in no order)

    Ride - Nowhere

this was the first record by the oxford band, and their best. The waves of sound and the feel of the record are like nothing else, plus its pretty accessible, but with a real edge.

    My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

"Their records are round and on CDs, but thats all in common that they have with anybody else making music these days"

like nothing else, this is an abstract masterpiece

  • @AExodus7 Swervedriver. Check out their first two albums, "Raise" and "Mezcal Head". It is a harder edge shoegaze. If you want to get spacey check out Sianspheric. The album "Somnium" is a good start. Now go out and start staring at your shoes. It is worth it.

  • @AExodus7 I know Slowdive was recommended. The best play to start with them, IMHO, is their compilation called "Catch the Breeze". If you like that buy the rest. Spread the word. Shoegazer is back and here to stay.

  • What a great, great song.... I wonder if the Cranberries got their melody inspiration for "The Rebels" from this song (go check it out).

  • Excelente tema, como todos del Album Ferment. De los pocos Albunes que pueden presumir de tener todo muy bueno.

    Saludos : )

  • ahahah yweah fuckkkkkkka thirdeyeblind for jumper that is a pussy song.

  • Third Eye Blind ripped off the melody with their song "Jumper".

  • Hi donnpatc! And we love you too! Music reaches all races!!!

    Have a good day!

  • Always thought this sounded very Oasis, i could imagine them doing a cover of this

  • I LOVE that band!!

  • extra-lush with the long version! thanks!

  • thats funny the singer is related to Iron Maiden singer. great song. this the reason Lithium is the only satellite radio station i listen to.

  • Want to know something even funnier?

An Iron Maiden and a Catherine Wheel are both medieval torture devices!

  • This song makes me so calm and I feel like all is okay with the world.

  • classic!

  • having black metallic skin has always been a dream of mine

  • Ever thought of jumping in a tub of black tar?

  • nah, that sounds like a "Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time" kind of things

  • What the hell happened to the videoclip? It was the first thing that came up when you searched this song.

  • man, all he way back to ..92? still remember first time hearing this on MARS Radio 103.1 in L.A. SWEDISH EGIL!!! Spoony G!! where u @!?!?!

  • Wow, you just took it WAY back! I remember that station. I remember him preaching about supporting that station cause it was the only one of it's kind in LA.

  • sadly now there aren'y ANY stations like that here. every once in a awhile Raul Campos will play some cool shit on KCRW. Swedish did Groove Radio a little while after that, also very cool. I think that station lives on over tthe net.

Sure don't seem like... 18 f'in years ago. THAT'S for sure.

  • I have to say, this is a song that should've been listed as a classic along with bittersweet symphony.

  • Great song

  • I thought I'd found it... I Wanna Touch You by Catherine Wheel form the first album Ferment... but, alas... nooooooooooooo... not there: you're killing me.

  • Excellent song!! Loved it back when it came out and.....still do...........

  • I only found this band by looking up Bruce dickinson, and i love 90's music and this is going to be added to that collection!

  • @wolves4life93

90's was a great decade for hard rock

  • Sheer brilliant arrangement, this. I weirdly always 'Thoth' of this musical gem Az bee-Ing abite the singer/songwriter's mistress coming fr. the planet Nibiru, where everyone has, literally, black metallic skin (dreaming ever on & on & on) ~ (•8-D}

  • Long live Shoegaze, and long live Nugaze, we could all do with a few more tunes with actual harmonies and sustained guitar chords in this world of staccato pseudo White Stripes bullshit.

  • This song makes me think Me think of mask's Wearing a mask aka Role that covers up who you are so much it becomes like your skin

  • "A typical Shoegazing song featuring soft vocals drenched with droning Guitars to create an atmospheric sound. "---don't you dare downplay the greatness of this song's composition!

  • oh how i would love to sing this to a girl i like but im afarid to talk to her

  • don't be - the world is full of much scarier things!

  • Put the CD in your boombox, walk up to her, hold that sucker over your head and turn it up. If it worked for John Cusack in "Say Anything," it will work for you. If it does nothing for this chick, turn, fart in her face and walk away; she's dirt under your shoes and I mean it.

  • Hard to see the resemblance between the cousins. Good stuff from this CD.

  • who says "not!" anymore? You'd think you'd iike this brilliant music more since you talk like the 90s.

  • kool music...not!

  • this song reminds me of my car:) love it.

  • sorry mate but theyre definitely cousins

  • they are brothers ya clown .

  • rob dickinson's vocals is brilliant!! guess he has the same DNA as his legendary cousin Bruce Dickinson

  • SSSSHHHHOOOOEEEEGGGGAAAAZZZEEE: )

  • Great song, heard it in s. Darko, haha x]

  • takes off at 6:28

  • awesome song :)

  • royal trux-junky nurse...you're welcome!

  • Great Xpectations. Finsbury park '93...shit my fucking leg off...

  • Heard this in S Darko :P Great song.

  • Ah, those were the days, when shoegazers ruled the world....

  • hey everyone, check out the video response, it's me and my friend playing black metallic with Dave Hawes, the bassist from Catherine Wheel

  • I never tire of this band. They sound as powerful to me now as when I first started listening to them in 92.

  • Catherine wheel, what a unappreciated gem, makes me pissed off that Razorlight are considered such a good british band, this song is better than their albums put together

  • @Ozyrus you're so right

  • I luv the tone of it, it's so soft yet hardcore and emotional at the same time, and somewhat whimsical. (sigh) there's not really music like this anymore

  • agree, etsuna

  • 3:28 - 4:30 is amazing...

  • this shit makes me think of my wife. that's just sad.

  • I use to have a license plate that had Skin is Black Metallic. I'm a sista and I love this song!!!!!

  • Wow another black who loves catherine Wheel? Well that's two of us at least.

  • You can add a third to that list. They are amazing, aren´t they?

  • Hi Mapreader! We both now great music when we hear it!

  • @MOMOFSAKI And WE LOVE YOU!!!!! People that Get It are, you know, just cool, you know?

  • @MOMOFSAKI So because someone is black they can't enjoy music that isn't rap?

  • @MOMOFSAKI You have great taste! This was a genre way over looked.

  • @ditimely

    absolutley

    !

  • The musical interlude from 4:08 to 4:31 gives me goosebumps, it's that melodically intense. And, of course, the finale beginning at 6:05 is comparable in it's appeal.

  • Great tune-lots of feeling.

  • I really love this song. I've been looking for it for years, and now I know what it is... it's awesome.

  • good stuff. for some reason i resisted this band for years. im buyin this record tommorow.

  • it really gets under my skin.....

  • should have been in the sin city soundtrack

  • Too bad these guys never got a chance in America. I'm from Detroit, "Rock City" and I never heard this song growing up in the 90s. With the way that rock sucks nowadays, it is ashame that alot of bands with real talent back then got overlooked by the huge bands like like Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etcetera. Thanks for posting this whole song. I fucking hate editing!(the video is edited for time)

  • This version is pure sex. Brilliant!

  • Yup.

  • anyone shoe gazing?

  • Love this song.

  • this is a great one thanks for the post!!

  • wow...forgot all bout these guys...wicked tune!! cheerz for posting it!

  • I don't care if there's no accompanying video...I LOVE this song! The entire album's great, as a matter of fact.
