lol yeah you can get seriously hurt if you don't be careful. And yes there are seats with parachutes, but you need to pull them out and throw as far as you can to use. So if you're less the 500ft above the ground, you will probably get hurt!

i actually did this 6-7 years ago. It's in southern turkey, very nice. you go with a minivan with your instructor up to the top of this mountain, it takes 1-2 hours to drive to the summit. There you're strapped to the front of the instructor, together you run and he lets the parachute lift you both up. they control everything so you can just look around. the last spinning part is very intense

Please try it, it's truly incredible.

I launched from a mountain in Austria, run and the chute takes you up.

You can also jump from planes but i think it's traditional to take off from a high standing point?

Don't hold me to that though i'm no expert. =]

Its based on a simple nature law. Hot air rises cool air sinks. They use hot thermal waves that raise from evaporating waters or the heat transfered back into the air after the sun heats the earth. Glider airplanes do the same thing. They have an instrument which tells them where these thermals are and they circle around them to gain altitude. Both can stay afloat for hours.

i've just got back from olu deniz and i did it! you start at 7800ft and rise to about 9500ft and then thats when you start to descend. you can ask the glider to do spirals, i did and it was wicked!

You know what - I dream of being able to fly since I was 4 Years old.

This place is major rip off. A solo flight costs 30 YTL to go up, (15 YTL for the driver and 15 YTL for the Turkish Forestry) which is roughly USD 30!!. A very expensive flight! There are no decent roads going up to the Launch Sites, no decent ambulance service, nothing. As you can see however Ölüdeniz is very beatiful. There are much better and CHEAPER places to fly for example Fiesch in Switzerland or Annecy in France or the Dolomites in Italy.
