  • ..my name is ellie warren and i'm 13. ._.

    wtf is this

  • 4wheelsandmud, sorry for not replying sooner. Had login gremlins. The dj at the rock was brilliant for his time, played some awesome music. Good memories of that place. Where's The Nag's Head in Ashton? Sorry, never heard of it.

  • Stood the test of time.Bring back the manxman.Happy days

  • thirty years ago this song when I was at 1981 what those times when I was in love of a girl never told me I love you but I do

  • divinia is doing good , with him last week.

  • yeah with divinia and the clowns crew, used to go in clowns 6 days a week . loved it in there

  • I used to be a 'bar dancer' during the 1980's at Clowns in Wigan and the Hippodrome in Leyland (used to be the tiger) this was one of the songs I used to dance and use the tamborine too. Ohhhh glory days I wish we could go back to those fun pub days

  • laura branigan, did a cover but you cant compare it to this version, ellie`s was a 80`s classic to a few in the 80`s

  • use to love this song at the owl night club in warrington

  • This song reminds me of Rock Rock Cafe in Lower Ince, anyone else remember it, we went from late 1983 to 1986?

  • @TheWilliamjones Yes we were talking about the rock rock last night and henry africa's!! had to try to find some who remembered it. I was the Dj from the owl now working in The Nags Head in ashton in makerfield playing all thos great songs fromm the 80's

  • @TheWilliamjones I used to work there behind the bar and as a bar dancer with my red tamborine! it was the best time ever. Whenever I hear that song it takes me back.

  • This was one hell of a song back in the late 80's I have a signed copy on vinel this song is the best it was one of the last songs on the Manxman 1990 in Preston. It is not crap bring back the Manxman the best place in Preston.

  • 'kin ell it sounds like tina charles, wot a load of garbage, how dare anyone post this with a pic of the theatre of dreams, obviously the poster was a wannabee soulie that does not have a clue, get back to the youth clubs, and the 80's bars where this shite belongs

  • fookin garbage never seen soul!!

  • fookin garbage

  • Love this song always listen to it b4 i go out in town

  • It was Paul Kelly from the New York Bar in Wakefield who first played this record,

strangely enough he heard it on the Jimmy Young programme on Radio 2, other DJ's

used to stand in dark corners of the bar making notes about the records he used.

He gave me a copy to play in the Dallas Bar in Sheffield.

  • This takes me back but not as far as the 80s. The gay club in my hometown used to play this and everybody used to do a dance to it with tambourines!!!! HAHA!!

  • @mjstockers ROFL!

  • @mjstockers they used to play it at henry africas in standish on the bar with tambourines ect great days great memories,

  • @dianeandwilson i remember that place used to go every saturday night fabulous !!!

  • Misspent my youth at Wigan Casino. Now living in Australia, will never forget this song. L

  • The riff is a shameless ripoff from Steve Hillage - It's All Too Much.

  • OMG went to wigan casino all the time, a SLAVE have not thought about it for years !!

So many memories with this, thanks for posting xxxx

  • Damn fine record a true classic !!!

  • why not join the ellie warren fan club on facebook there is also very rare footage of ellie live from way back in the 80s

  • Nice, I like her song "Sattelites" even better....I still prefer Laura Branigan's version of "Shattered Glass."

  • for more info on ellie warren go to elliewarren.co.uk,also join ellie warren fan club on facebook

  • for more info and rare live footage of ellie warren go to elliewarren.co.uk,also there is an ellie warren fanclub on facebook

  • shes not a very good singer

  • @discovery781 i had ellie warren perform in my night club back in the eighties and she was awesome vinyl does not do her voice justice

  • @tattyhead63 she might be a good performer in the same vein as Madonna, but as a vocalist, like Madonna, she falls flat......

  • Laura Branigan remade this song which was pretty good. :)

  • Absolutley a classic dolphin in wakey fri and sat nights rock on wooooooot x x

  • Love it reminds me of Brooks and percy braitwaites last stand in Preston back in the day. Oh to turn back the clock eh

  • memories i was one of the first people to dance to this on the bar at clowns bar lol

  • Which BBC Saturday Night drama was this the theme tune for?

  • Casualty ??

  • This Is Over 23 years old this song .!!!

  • Davinia is still giving this a spin now that he/she is back in Wigan at The Venue (The Vic) on Wallgate. All the Clowns showbar favs.

  • such a gay tune love ittttt, they have such good taste, sorry if i offend anyone that is not my aim at all, love you sexy guys

  • I can never understand why this track was never a big hit back in 1980 when it was released . Every one nearly used to ask the DJ to play this at the disco so by my reckoning it would have at least been a top 5 hit sometime back in the 80s ! However this should now never be sampled or covered it truly is a classic , A dance troupe did a dreadful cover back in 92 called Dtox that never got far so keep this sacred !!!

  • @ezekiel919 according to Ellie "all the [radio] stations and media were totally behind ["Shattered Glass"], but the record wasn't serviced properly. When the radio was playing it to death, you couldn't buy it in the shops - a ludicrous situation"

  • This is just as good as Laura Branigan's remake.

  • Comment removed

  • This song does bring back very fond momories, but doesn't that Casino Club look a right dump.

  • This is more like being at clowns show bar in wigin 25 years ago. I should know i worked there

  • hiya my brother worked at clowns bar, at around the same time, thought i'd say hello, my brothers name was jeff burgess. if i know u hi, if i don't, sorry to bug u. x

  • This isn't soul never mind northern

  • Its sad. Such a great song, a good dance N0, a good sing along, this song has, to be re released.

DJs should play this and so should radio sations this is a fantasitc song it gets people dancing and singing

  • brilliant, not bothered if its northern or not grat track.

  • I won't repeat what has already been said.

I can't understand how Wigan Casino gets away with the 'home' of Northern Soul title, what with them promoting crap like Footsee and Skiing in the Snow, all the Wigan Wallies dancing away to them at the Casino and most of them had never been to another venue.

They couldn't separate Soul from the Top of the Pops.

I'm talking the seventies here. I believe it went worse before it closed.

  • what the hell are you talkiing about , wigan unfortunately {i,m from bolton} is the home of northern soul, bozo

  • Wigan the 'home' of Northern Soul? - My ARSE!

The Casino (which gave Northern Soul to Wigan in the first place) died the death and Northern Soul in Wigan soon followed it.

The Midlands were more suited to the title of 'Home'.

As for this 'disco classic' - that's what it is, a 'disco' classic.

    Soul it is NOT!

And, by the way, I'm from Wigan and believe me, it's the 'home' of not very much!

  • a real floor filler - happy memories

  • sad cunt

  • great tune remember it well

  • oooooh luvs et :)

  • remember dancing to this at wigan

  • OMG henry africa, i soooooo remember that place, LOVED it

  • why did it close down?

  • Horse piss.Don't know what genre you'd class this shite as, but it's not Northern Soul.

  • spot on

  • clueless

  • Disco

  • ahhhhhhhh memories !!

  • i remember this from ziggys in bolton.fine tune

  • Don't care what it is! I bloody enjoyed it!! :)

  • Not a Northern Soul tune, not even close. This was a staple at the fun pubs in Wigan in the 80's (Clown's, Henry Africa's and that other I can't remember on King St.). I know, I had to put on me leather shorts and dance to it every night for the 3 years I worked at Clown's....good times.

  • sorry mate this is definatley not a classic northern soul tune, even though it was on north of watford cd (why we ask)this was a disco tune nothing more. i never heard this played either in the casino or mr m's.

weddings, and pubs, and clowns bar in wigan but absoloutley NEVER NEVER NEVER at the casino sorry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Never heard it. Gave it a 5. It's my new favorite song.

  • Most people I work with don't get what I like and that is what makes it special to me: Northern Soul Ballroom Dancing Chromatic Harmonica see Larry Adler, Sony boy williamson II. Taking my daughters on my Russian Ural 750cc motorbike Vespas Lambrettas Time Trouble and Money book Fred Astaire the tap dancers the Nicohlas Brothers. Keep on doing what you do... the track is and will never be Northern Soul its just too slack...
  • Disco foreskin! Northern has let a load of crap into it over the years..Everyone wants to find a new sound of their own that no one has heared..I have found out that having a shit on a glass top table makes the best sound if you like footsee!!!lol

  • This can't be northern soul as it's far, far too good!! PS, I am gay though.

  • agree with most everyone else its Not Northern or even close .. someone is taking ze piss....

    KTF.....

  • definately a gay anthem if this is a 'northern soul' classic then i'm the queen of sheba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is no more Northern Soul than fly to the moon! It was played in "gay" venues!!!!!!!

  • This is must be a wind up!!!!

NEVER in the name of god did they play this at the Casino,

Now I know they played some crap in the last years but THIS NEVER

    Please NO

  • I´m one of foreverttao´s best mates and she´s NOT lying! Love this song!!

  • I LOVE this song.....

  • fuck off pinky

  • 18th 21st or wedding parties in wigan? how come you cant hear it anywhere else ?????what are the chances??

  • Ellie Warren is my mother and I'm not joking.

  • to sonia allardyce from jo g i love you xxxxx

  • I found out when the Wigan Casino burnt down, and I've only ever been to Wigan to watch Wigan Warriors get trounched every time by St Helens

  • If this is Northern Soul , I'm a monkeys uncle - lol - someones taking the Piss !!!!

  • love northern soul

  • when did that building burn down???

  • Whats this pooey?

  • "Maybe one day something like this will happen again..." ?? - I bloody well hope not! Wigan would have done all genuine Soul music fans a big favour by going up in flames in early 1974 ! And what's this record got to do with anything at all...??

  • is someone pulling someones leg here ?? lol

  • must have been in ms when this was played

  • me too...country and western :)

  • anyone who went to Ceasers in Leeds will remember Graham playing this one top class record top class DJ as well

  • Where abouts was Ceasers in Leeds ? i'm Leeds (Leeds all my life) and i can't remember it (my prime was late 80's to late 90's) so forgive me if it was earlier than that LOL....

    still a great tune though

  • @DPFIREBIRD ceasers was at back of merrion centre it became cinderella rockerfellas its now soames casino

  • @trix69x ...Thx for that,it was a bit before my time,i do remember it as Cinderellas (when i were an early teenager if i remember rightly). It was 'Soames' casino but its a 'Grovener' casino know..thx again trix69x

  • A northern soul classic!!!!!

  • Love this song :-)

  • every time i see pictures of this place god i get a lump in my throat great memories there will never be another place like it

  • I was only about 7 or 8 the night the casino burnt to the ground, me and about 4 of my mates were skate boarding in the old multi storey car park that night, we tried to get closer on the land opposite the casino at the side of the ABC picture house (but we were moved on by the beat bobby) which has now been demolished to make way for wigans Grand Arcade. Old Wigan has Now Gone Passed Recognition.

  • This isn't a casino classic....

  • Alas I never went to Wigan Casino. I was a punk at the time and too young really.

Maybe one day something like this will happen again.

  • HA HA HA HA - this was my fave record back in the day. I don't see the connection with Wigan Casino here though. Unfortunately, I never went but imagine it was fabulous. Where is Ellie now?

  • Ellie Warren is my Mum and currently lives in Zimbabwe although she´s in the UK at the moment working.

  • Keeep tha faaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith
