An outstanding man. I am only disappointed that I did not become aware of his passing until ten months after. General Theus left a benchmark for all mankind.
I was Lu's classmate. We all knew that Lu was number one in the class, but that nothing could be done.
My room with five other Candidates joined Lu's and we shared a common bathroom. We six, went to the Commandant and asked if two of us could move in with Lu to share his load. We were firmly told that this was not only against Army policy. It was 1946 in Alabama! The Commandant was Texan!
I saw Lu in 1996. I was saddened to learn of his death. He was a great officer and a gentleman!
Thank you for your service, sir. RIP
