awww my boyfriend's gsd's name is baron too!! except he's a horrible, mean dog :( baaaad training, but he's warming up to me (finally!) proves that dog's mannerisms come from lack of training, not "just the way they are".

all in all, you have a beautiful puppy there and he's AMAZING with children!! :)

That dog does not looked trained at all. If you keep saying 'sit' the dog will automatically sit bcuz it's neck is strained from looking up. If u say down & YOU go towards the floor the dog will follow looking for a treat. u stand up & say up the dog is going to follow u right up to be close to you! Does not make it trained. My german shepherd already does that. If it was trained it would have responded while u were giving instructions. 'Tell him to sit' he would have plopped down immediately

@desolate2 at the same time though, dogs don't understand complete sentences. if you take a dog which is awesomely trained and reacts instantly, and instead if saying "sit", you said "would you please sit down", that dog isn't going to do much. also, considering how distracted from *camerawoman* the dog is, it's never going to be all that responsive to her

Everyone here appears to praise the dog for his behaviour. Let's not forget that this 3 year old is showing very good leadership qualities and calmness at the same time towards this dog. Outstanding! ...I've seen teens and grownup's with far less skills around dogs (especially german shepherds).

@nataliawasilewska97 he is not agressive at alllll towards family members...if a stranger were to break in the house he would be agressive (but if that stranger had a slab of meat he might let him in hahaha). Hes a softie!! He is such a good dog! But very intimidating to look at (people cross the street when they see him lol) :)

@nataliawasilewska97 - I grew up around male non-neutered german shepherds. NONE of them have ever been aggressive/dominant, anything. just big fluffy balls of love. They need to be trained, but as a breed, they're very friendly and trainable.

Wow! Our German Shepherd puppy Sam is 5 months old and looks like he could be Baron's twin brother! They have almost the exact same coloration... Sam is 50 lbs right now. Amazing! Your daughter is amazing with Baron. I love how she rewarded him with the ball after he did as instructed. He will never let her down.

I grew up with a BARON (a long time ago); he was the best dog in the world -- a GSD from Spangdahlem Germany.

Now I have four males: Aries, Apollo, Zeus and Hades -- strong Greek God names, but actually 2 are from Germany; 2 are from Czech Republic. Wonderful breed.

What happens if you don't socialize a dog with younger kids is the dog doesn't react well to being around them or being approached or touched by them.

aww my german sheperd does the same thing when she shakes her hand although she could be one of my stupidist dog ive had one time she got out of or house becuz we went to put the lesh on her for a walk she got out ran down two blocks before we caught her when we did we were taking her to the vet becuz she got hit by a car but we still love here and shes okay now

No, you don't HAVE to reward the animal. A dog is after a leader, and a leader rewards the dog by letting him work - because that's what dogs love. Doing what their told. K9 dogs for example, they love their work, they don't have to be rewarded because their reward is doing what they're doing.
