This is the goddamn speech Obama needs to give. America is in the red, and someone needs to either contribute/give up something in order to help us get back into the black. Who's going to bear that burden? The rich or the middle class?
Nail up the greedy Wall Street elite who don't want any gov't regulation
Nail up Grover Norquist
... and Nail up his minions -- the Republican obstructionists in Congress who have no problem asking elderly people to pay more for Medicare, but will LIE DOWN IN THE ROAD to protect millionaires from having to part with a single $1
"Give me the hammer, and I'll nail up any sum'bitch who tries to get between you and your Social Security, or the healthcare, or the education, or the food you need!"
@djt1785 It isn't a right to be given healthcare or food by the government. If you still think the republicans are the great evil and it's not about both parties doing all they can to play their game and keep themselves in power you are clueless. You sound like a poor person who is jealous of those who worked hard in life to be successful and get decent jobs.
(1) Funny I "sound like a jealous poor person". In fact, I'm an Ivy League-educated lawyer who defends a lot of corporations; if I weren't up to my ass in debt I took on to get a world-class education, I would have bolted already (I plan to within 3 years). I needed huge loans because I grew up poor (1st in my fam to even go to college) Nowadays I make enough to buy & sell your mother into white slavery - but that doesn't cause me to forget where I came from
(2) Both parties are at fault, but the (R)'s are moreso. I'll prove it. Take budget/debt issues: I'm reasonable; I believe a real solution to these fiscal woes requires BOTH meaningful spending cuts AND modest tax increases. However Norquist and his ATR interest group have ~95% of the (R)'s in Congress by the nuts b/c they signed "the pledge" to never consider raising any revenue via taxes ... why can't they just change their minds (see above)
... If a Congresman violates said pledge, Norquist punishes them by unleashing millions from his war chest of virtually unlimited funds (the source of which he does not disclose) and gives it to that Congressman's primary opponent in the next election to defeat him. So when you have one party just flatly REFUSING TO ACCEPT THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY COMPROMISE on THE SINGLE BIGGEST ISSUE (the budget), you tell me which party is more unreasonable/at fault?
@RobtheBig It would be foolish to allow people who contribute nothing to society to vote on matters pertaining to the taxation of those who work hard and pay taxes and have a stake in the future of this country because their livelihoods depend upon the laws and regulations put forth by the elected.. oh wait we already do that..
@HermannTheGreat so basicly if someone doesn't contribute to society there worthless not equal to other human beings? Existence is enough to contribute to society for positive or negative and some of thoughs hard working people who pay taxes a handful of them are snakes who F over other people to make a profit (which is technically contributing to society) My whole point is voting doesn't make one matter. Existing does. All humans good or bad deserve equality.
@RobtheBig Your points contradict themselves. Voting makes one matter simply because their vote determines where money is spent and what it is spent on. Someone who contributes nothing yet reaps the benefits of other people's hard work should still be treated as human beings with worth and value, but they should not be allowed to give their say in matters pertaining to those who contribute to all when they contribute nothing. This is why originally only land owning men could vote.
@HermannTheGreat I agree but for the context of this movie i think what Sean i~ really~ want ~an ~oscar~ for~ this~ role Penn is litterally saying is that "you litterally dont matter if you dont vote" 1:57 hes says it like 10 ten times. hes really pushing that idea which is retarded
Those who state negative shit about this character willie stark.. based on lousianas Huey Long* If i spelled his name right* , He did into a Socialist while in power* However, At that TIME PERIOD, Where Corruption was so WIDESPREAD.. what else could you do..
OH yea... * You can Thank Willie* aka Huey for the LSU stadium if your an LSU fan.. that was his clever idea to make dorms and a Football stadium together so he could afford it. But TODAY.that type of ideology.isnt wrong - Just not needed
I love how we are not afraid to say these kinds of things in movies, but are ridiculed for saying these things in public! So much for freedom. I say we take our government leaders and nail THEM up!

i watch this part of the movie and wonder why this was called by ebert the worst film of 2006? i thought it was very underrated
HappyBirthdayPaulie 2 years ago
because the movie industry hates Sean Penn because of his "socialistic" views.
I am no socialist but I love out of all of hollywood he is the sole outcast. They will usually bash all his movies because of his political views
