@FreeSolarEnergy I see, I have a number of these insulated glass panels, all old patio sliding doors, the newer ones have this rubber like adhesive, while the older ones seem to be bonded with a very hard glue. I was thinking perhaps a "piano wire" may work better?
I know there is a recommended product called Sylgard that is an excellent sealer for the back of solar panels, quite spendy though.
@CTOL1 Piano string, good idea that is how I cut windshields out of a car lol, I have 7 double glass store beer doors took out of an old store, I have to get them apart at the seal Piano string think I'll give that a try, or a hot knife,if I can find one on ebay.
I sale split in half solar cells on ebay, I guess I should buy something for a change hu lol. Send me a friends request I make all my friend a good deal.
To x11115, You can hook a few panels to a grid tie inverter, plug it into a dedicated wall plug and it will feed power from the panels to your home & out to the commercial power grid if you produce more than you are using. If you use backup batteries- an inverter will convert the voltage to household ac. There are lots of scams, but this is a great thing to learn about & use. I'm getting set up myself right now, though on a low budget. Good luck and contact me if you want to share info.
solar panel, hook it to rechargable batteries(marine, golf cart, or fork lift) than an inverter you can by at a at\uto store that plugs into a cigarette lighter to run small tv's,etc. can be used. 1500 watt is about $75 to $100 bucks. It has two plugs. This is a start to understand how it works. The $1000 inverter is professional types that the companies put in when doing the professional type insulation. If you get enough solar panels up to get off the grid $1000 is worth it.
ok so enough batteries would be expensive to power a house and get up to 120v or you would have to rewire your house for 12 v right? batteries don't last indefinately either so that would not be very efficient. I would like to hook my up in with the power company and sell the excess back. Is that possible? if so how is it done?
@x11115 lol the idea isn't to gather enough 12v batteries to equal 120 v, The idea is to charge a bank of batteries, use inverters to convert the 12v to 120volt charging all the batteries with solar power is efficient,No re wiring needed..you have 20 panels putting out 3.6 amps each or 4 amps or 5 amps each charging batteries all day also using voltage regulators and inverters.Your inverters change the power from the batteries from 12 volt to 120v,Regulators regulate high volt to 12 volt stable
I never said it was a way to run your house. It was just to understand how it works. It takes solar panels-DC disconnect-charge controller-deep cycle batteries-system meter-Main DC connect-inverter-AC breaker panel-kilowatt per hour meter. All I can say is when hooking up any solar panel to your setup cover it with a blanket or something before attaching any wires together. IT IS LIVE drawing power from the sun and can shock you!!! Driv3th3hiv3 tell me how you make a proper setup?
I've heard this is a complete scam and inorder to use them you need an inverter which cost 1000s of dollars. If it is so easy to do why are people trying to sell $50.00 books on these and not disclosing how this is actually done. 1000s of people would tell you how this is done if it was so easy to do. In allmost every one of these youtube videos there's an affiliate link to buy a 50.00 dollar book and none of them tell you what materials you need or show you how it is done.
@x11115 I got my inverters from ebay 3000 watt continues and 6000 watt peak
solar charges the batteries my inverters hook to the batteries,Refrigerator and my window A/C unit plugs into separate inverters,There went most of my electric bill,
You can learn how to solder cells and make panels right here on Youtube, Hell I'll make a video shortly on how to and the basic's,the biggest thing you need is patients and time, but yes I sale split cells also so I do have a bit of understanding

Cool, nice work
Allow me to ask how you separated the two insulated glass panels?
CTOL1 1 year ago
@CTOL1 I used a knife but i broke one of the panels, so than i used a piece of ply wood to cover the back of the solar panel.

@bil56 Stupid idea
This setup can only generate 60 Watts, enough to run ONE lightbulb.
If you want to get solar power dont be an idiot and glue hundreds of DIY panels together, but instead get a proper setup.

try using silicone to stick your panels to the glass it is flexible when it dries

i like it..i never thought about using other small solar panels to make a bigger one

Nice vid.
Just a few questions:
Where did you buy the cels and what kind of battery do you use to store the energy?
Do you keep it dc or do you use an inverter?
