OMG!!!!!....What a wonderful version absolutely superb....I love this so so much it is so beautiful it is simply heaven on earth.......WOW!!!..How it stirs the emotions in such a wonderful way. This is so perfect...So brilliant...A superb Masterpiece.
Best to keep adding nice comments to get rid of stupid comments off the front page - come on guys. I have the 'Dublin' version saved as my favourite but I don't like the pictures because they are not of old Dublin but mostly of War scenes. I think I'll go and listen to Culture club now - War is Stupid ...
As the river Avon is surrounded by man's deliberate destruction in Christchurch New Zealand I remember singing this song in my school group to , I believe the Arch Bishop of Canterbury near the river Avon . Innocence lost.
Still a lovely song. Trivia question; when was this written? Most people answer with, It was written for Elizabeth the first. Wrong, it was written for Elizabeth II about 1952 or 3.
Hi Beeples01!! Just wanted to say that I read somewhere else that this in fact was not written for her... or rather for her coronation which took place near around the time this was written... rather this was done in the Elizabethan style...just thought I'd ad that...cheers!
Hi Sitedezynz, You may be right on that point. My rationale for the question was
when was it written not so much for whom or why. As Queen Elizabeth's coronation was in '53 then I am pretty sure it was written for that rather than her personally. Thanks for your comment. Cheers from Sydney, Oz.
I always thought this piece was German, but it was composed by a chap called Ronald Binge who was born in Derbyshire, England, But I must say the Germans have made it their own,
I know what you mean, I agree. I wonder with a name like "Binge"(maybe pronouced "Binga") if he was not of German origin? Interesting observation by yourself.
This is the Gunter-Kallmann-Chor. I have this version on an old Polydor vinyl I got about 1967/8. Other songs on the vinyl are Annabelle, Der Reigen(Straus), Toselli's Serenade, La Montanara, O Mein Papa..etc. Beautiful choir.
Thank you so much. I have been searching the internet and discovered there was a US version, but cannot locate it. I have been hunting this movie for years years. I am so grateful for this break.

I say...a bit thick! Rather sends a chill down ones spine, wot? All those cute little nazi's singing their hearts out to Bing's Elizabethan Serenade. Duck every one!!!
I remember hearing this on the radio on the BBC Light Programme, before it was Radio1 when I was a kid with my mother, God rest her soul, I am now 45 and it reminds me of yesterday!! Brilliant Gunther Kallman and his choir!!
Yes thomasojii31... by all accounts it is indeed the Gunter Kallmann Choir. There's no mistaking those BELLS! I would love to see the entire album uploaded of "Serenade for Elisabeth".
Yes, finally!! I have been wondering if this was the famous Gunter Kallmann choir... thanks 114Pilot! :) However, I can't find the complete song anywhere in the internet...I think you can only purchase the CD or vinyl online...
La version originale était par Robert Binge et chorégraphié par Montovanni (orchestre de Montovanni), il n'y a aucun mot à la composition originale. Le titre de cette composition est « Elizabethan Serenade ». Il y a plusieurs versions sur You Tube.

Very nice chorale sounds, shame about the orchestration - the acting looks awful also.. title should be Elizabethan Serenade by Ronald Binge.

I do believe you to be right. I also would add that it was intended to conjur feelings of happiness in people after the second world war.
My wife and I had this at our wedding as an alternative to the traditional wedding march.
