You can get carbide cutters at Global Tooling. Best price I've found. But they don't have the large round cutters. Where can I get those? Diamond sharpeners work great on carbide.
Hi Capneddie, Thanks for the help, FYI pmcwood.com in Hammond La. sells a 15mm radius cutter for $5.00 each, they come in packs of ten. I don't know the radius but they work great.I just used one to make the new handels for my tools.
I dont normally get involved with the trolls .. but Noscrapping all you do is make rude, nasty comments on peoples videos, yeah I checked your channel, no subscribers, no video uploads, instead of bitching at people, or bragging about your work, post something that will bring you some respect, otherwise, do us all a favour and bog off. Jerk.
So go ahead and grab your dull gouge or your scraper, or your rock, then your 60 grit sandpaper. Mind you if you listen closely you can hear the wood begging you to stop. There is one more thing I can PROMISE you, your results will never be A-Ok. If you are not sure what I am talking about, call David Ellsworth and chat with him.
I understand that most of you guys dont get it, but the whole issue here is RESPECT. Respect for the process and most importantly for the wood. I see that most approach this craft with agression and ignorance. Scraping and tearing at the wood, then sanding it to death to try and make up for a lack of respect for this wonderful organic material. I have taught many of you in past so I have watched as you try to impose your will on the wood instead of taking the time to learn the proper way.
Thanks for the videos capneddie. It's a shame that people like noscraping can't recognize someone trying to do a decent thing in helping others learn a craft. Instead he's stuck on some technicality. You know what they say.....opinions are like.....
Attn NOSCRAPING: Maybe you need to look a little closer when I rub the bevel and make a slicing cut. End grain may be scraping, but new turners do need an advantage and this is one they can use. Sorry it doesn't meet your standards.
@Noscraping REALLY? I really do not want to make a seen on the caps page but REALLY? are you that much of a wood turning snob? as long as the end product comes off the lathe and looks good who cares? You could use a sharp rock and as long as it does the job it's A-OK
Hey turners you can not find a better guy to buy from than Capt'n Eddie. He is truly a man of honor and has erned my respect and my loyality . I you send him a question or call him he will get back to you just as soon as he can in most cases with in the day if your order has a problem lrt him know and he fixes it right away no hassles no questions
that truly is a sweet cuter you found there Capt'n
Once you have used carbide cutter, HSS has nothing on the carbide tools.
I would like to see a carbide insert mounted on to a thin 1/8" or smaller bar for a cut off tool that is 7 to 8" long. So everyone could make there on cut off tool by just making a handle and riveting the scale on too the sides and shaping the handle to fit there hands.

Sorry, you can tell people anything you want, but this is still not woodturning, this is wood scraping. But tell yourself whatever you need to.
PS, that endgrain hollowing was scraping also.

@BrushCountryJamboree Those cutoff tools exist. But you have to look in the metal lathe section.
