no matter who dt gets for a drummer they should kick out james and just be a jam band. his voice is so goddamn annoying. their music was always great but listening to labrie sounds like someone beating a cat with a baby
@1ofthesedayz I can't argue with that. Ever since the food poisoning incident, James hasn't been as good as he had been. I mean, his old performances in The Spirit Carries On, Learning to Live (FUCKIN F#), and the such are hard to beat, let alone replicate.
I did in 2009.James was just...perfect in every moment, and they played a medley with a part from Learning to Live...at first I was afraid,but..yes,he did an excellent job and is at least that good that was in the 90s.
@szerzsinnyo As have I, I'm just saying that he's the weak link of the band. However, After his AMAZING performance on BCASL, I have renewed hope in him.
@szerzsinnyo Gotta back you up here. I saw them in '07 and.. '09 too I think. This albums and Black Clouds and Silver Linings-tour too. He sounded awesome, even on the older tracks. I got no idea why people diss LaBrie, I couldnt see anyone fit as good in DT as he does.
@Cerrani91 Seen both tours, and can say the same. No complaining about the singing - Have been listening DT since middle of 90´s, and got to say that I like that they have done a lot of different style of albums. The "heavy DT" works also so well!
@cellaby -- don't you think if the song were "technically impossible" as you claim, they wouldn't even bother playing it live? So i disagree with that comment. It may be impossible for your depth of skill but for Dream Theater I would say nothing is impossible.
@ViggyD Mike actually recently asked to rejoin but they said no.. Dream Theater already has the new drummer picked. They just chose not to release the name yet.
@HateHumanity Don't get me wrong, i'm a HUGE dream theater fan, but I'd look sad too if the past 4:38 seconds of the song was butchered by my lead singer. Labrie is really letting himself go. On the albums, he sounds great. But live, oh god, he's really starting to get bad :/
I totally agree with you man. But I think LaBrie never was the right singer for this band. I think he's a good singer, but there are tons of better ones out there. The band is always mindblowing but LaBrie really fucked up some of their best live performances, like Surrounded in the Chaos in Motion DVD. I love Dream Theater anyway but only for its talented musicians. If the band would have a singer like Bruce Dickinson...Wow!! That would be THE BAND!! (at least for my taste)
It really looks like you've never heard LaBrie before his food poisoning. Search for DT's Live videos before 1995. LaBrie is absolutely amazing. At that time, there weren't "tons of better ones out there". In fact, I guess there was none. Now, true, it's different. On the other hand, I can't imagine another singer...
Come on man! Is that too difficult to take 5 minutes of your time just to watch some older videos? :o "Whatever you say"? Is that all you can answer? I mean, I agree with you when you say he's only a good singer nowadays. But it seems you think that he's been only a good singer since the beginning, which is not true. Hence my first answer. :)
You don't like his singing, well I can understand, that happens to me too in some live performances so...
@YTazzkickr01 Puh Dickinson, right. He has as much troubles with his voice as Labrie. If you here the 2009 version of children of the damned, one would almost get scared realising its the same singer.
@zodiacdrummer66 You disagree my opinion like i disagree everyone who says James sucks. I base it on only the download festival and others on only the chaos in motion dvd.
I'm sick and tired of people knowing better who to put in the band then the band themselves. People diss my hero, i diss their hero. Its like me saying: "Hey, Bruce sucks, lets put in Maynard James Keenan, that would be awsome" Understand what i mean, my friend?
@kevintje82onboard I'm not dissin anyone mate. I get what you mean. I love LaBrie, think he's a great singer. He's got a lot of soul to his voice, and he can even belt out the heavy when need be. He's done very well all things considering. I just got his newest solo record, and it's pretty awesome.
@zodiacdrummer66 I'm sorry dude, i'm not pointing at you. Just almost every DT song around here is filled with reactions like He suck here he suck there. It annoys the hell out of me! People dont wanna see what effort he puts in, even with a broken voice or spirit.
My parents teached me to respect my fellow human beings, but that doesnt seem to be the spirit of youtube. I saw Bruce at concert parts of Final Frontier here sounding awsome,so i know. I just wanted to bite back. Cheers
Yes, I saw that DVD. It's incredible how different he sounds -and looks- one year and half after that concert. I repeat it: I think he's a good singer, but -to my taste- he never was the best for Dream Theater. And I admit it: some songs are just perfect with his voice. It's only my opinion. Bye! :)
Magnifico!! excellente!! and what happended for labrie at "spinning round and round it goes" 2nd chorus (3:25)? That blew my face off and maked me laugh!!
From an angle, Petrucci looks like Sirius Black. Though it kinda makes sense, I mean he is a wizard of guitar.
Also, anyone know what effects he uses on that solo? I hear delay and possible flanger (phaser maybe instead?).
