Very bad upgrade practice. NEVER EVER upgrade an electronic component while it is on a carpet. The product and the installer should be on an anti-static surface. Moreover, you should wear an anti static wrist strap. Discharging the body one minute does not mean it won't have a static charge a second later.
@neoscribe I would like to thank you, for producing this video piece. Regarding the upgradings for the Roland MV 8000 - 8800 sampling workstation unit. I just purchased an used MV 8000 off of "Ebay". So now, i know how to do the upgrading to it. All due to watching your video piece. Thank you, PEACE.....MY BROTHA.
@777jeru glad to help. just remember what TomZentra said above, static electricity can kill your components, it's never fun to have a fried piece of musical equipment. also, I don't know the MV8000 is physically different from the MV8800 so verify that you buy the proper RAM as found in your Owner's Manual. deep and pervasive peace back at you my friend.
I had heard about the low memory that comes as stock so decided to go straight for the ram upgrade with my new MV. After watching your video I could see it would be a breeze with no nasty surprises! And it worked a treat, thanks.
neoscribe, would you be interested in doing an mv8800 seminar at guitar center in new orleans? no one at this roland dealer seems capable to answer your questions after the purchase and the mv8800 gurus don't give a lot of in depth info on the potential of this machine.
Good video. This was the first thing I did when I purchased my MV 8800 last month...just like the Fantom X last year. Take the back cover off and BAM the ram memory is right there. I also upgraded the hard drive as well with a Samsung 160GB drive to add more patches, samples, etc.. I plan on keeping this magnificent machine for a long time.
thanks. someone wrote me and said that you can replace the DVD drive (that's right, it actually DVD, not just CD) if you start to have problems with it.
:) if you have a MV880, your drive will read data DVD's, it just won't burn a DVD. my Acid Pro 7 content disk is a DVD and I can read it just fine on the MV. stick one, you'll see!
Probably the end of this month, beginning of next month. I grew up in the pre golden hip hop era & have been making beats off & on for 15 years. As of the last three years I've been "out of the loop" with things. So I plan on getting back into things heavy. I'm mainly going to use the MV for straight hip hop! The economy threw me a curve ball, but I'm bout to get straight! Thanks for asking! Stay up!
What would you consider a good mixer for the MV8800 keeping in mind the equipment I informed you of before? Thanks again for your timely reply in advance.
Sorry, I haven't had one for home recording in several years so I'm out of touch. However, if you're only doing home recording, I'd start with a DJ mixer for your two turn tables. I'd look for one with analog, digital, and midi controls. That might be expensive, so at a minimum get one with good signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Perhaps a youtuber reading this has a "useful' recommendation?
That was thee most simplest way to help someone upgrade their MV8800! Thank you.
Would you happen to know what is needed for a home recording studio that records mainly hip hop and for beatmaking. I mean, I have the MV8800, 2 Rok5 speakers, Oxygen 8 keyboard, 1 american audio turntable, 1 Sony turntable. What else would I need other than a mic and some headphones? I appreciate your reply in advance. Thanks.
Good stuff. That should keep people from screwing it up. Very informative. I must admit I didn't know the part about not using magnetized tools in electronics. Thanks for taking the time.
Thanks Jason. Magnetized tools don't generally harm electronics, but they can be bad news if they come in contact with magnetic devices such as disk and disk drives. I wouldn't want anyone to lose their projects! That's the main reason I said it.

Wow!! Replace the CD drive with a DVD drive?! I think I better wait if problems develop before I dive into that one.

Thanks!
I assume you have one if you have two turn tables, but you didn't mention an audio mixer. The MV's sliders are useful but they can't beat a mixer.
