  • He fought the Siamese (Thai) also. The only time Khmer and Lao went to war against each other was over a stupid elephant duel in the 1500's. They lost the bet and invaded us anyways. We won the war anyhow. They learned their lesson and never warred with us again. Ever since then Khmer and Lao have always been family. The Thai, that's a whole other story.

  • CaliG, you need to read more Khmer History. The Lao people are our brothers and sisters. They never stole our land, we granted it to them in the 1300's because of a Lao prince who was exiled and then raised in Angkor. His name is Fa Ngum. He married a Khmer princess. He became King Of Lao with 10000 Khmer soldiers. So his descendants are of Lao/Khmer ancestry.

  • I am pretty sure the original is Khmer because I heard the 1960's version of it. Also the Khmer empire was the first to be here and all u people stole our land, copy our culture tradition, dance style, music, & claim that is yours. Know your history. Khmer were the first to settle in SE Asia that's why we have the Great Ankor Wat and many ancient ruins in Laos & Thai.

  • Hie dear.

Sorry for you, im not thaï people and i like asia culture, this page is not a page for argue, could you anderstand this ? thank you.

  • Stop spammming! Lao and Thai people know this is originally Lao music so stop claiming it isn't.

  • ain't nobody trying to spam. Everybdy know that Lao & Thai use to be part of the Khmer Empire and how u people copy our dance style, music, culture, tradtion. Even ur alphapbet was influenced by Khmer writing. Quit trying to deny it's not.

  • A part of? You mean the land used to be part of Khmer until they were pushed back to present day Cambodia, We Tai never belonged to the khmer empire. I'm not denying anything, we adopt not copy and like I mentioned this song is Lao so you can stop trying to prove it's not.

  • Come on bro! The Roman empire conqured almost all Europe, part of North africa and part of Asia. Is that mean they belong to the Romans? Just because ur people are in SE Asia first doesn't mean we copy ur style. If we copied ur style, why we eat different food, different rice? we're neighbor that's why we have the similar culture... Ur alphabet and ours are copied from the Indian old language. About Chao Fa Ngum story, ur right about that.

  • that's true, thai and lao and khmer alphabets are actually old sanskrits writings from India!!!!

  • from india my toilet shits.....u dumbshit who the fucl want your stupid indian god in our buddha's temple.....go some where else.

  • To saechaomienhbuddha,

You know of-course that BUDDHA ( the religion) IS FROM INDIA.

Your screen name have the word buddha in it.---Shouldn't you be respectful---learn to disagree repectfully----don't acts like a child----grow up.

    HOPE YOU ARE NOT MAD>>>>>>>

  • You know of course that Buddha (Siddharta Gautama) was not a religion himself but the one who founded that religion: the BUDDHISM! (This is your first bullshit!)

Secondly, he was born in Lumbini - NEPAL ! (This is your second bullshit!).

And, please, don't answer that Nepal was India in that period!

But what I can't understand is: even supposed that Buddha was Indian, as you claim, does it mean that only Indian people can be Buddhist? I think YOU act childishly and YOU must grow up!

  • To duitubbi,

I was reply to saechaomienbuddha AND NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AN INDIAN TO BE A BUDDHIST. You used a lot of impolite words. So YOU HAVE TO GROW UP AND LEARN TO BE POLITE.

  • @CalikhmerG Sorry but this style of or morlam came from Lao Saravane province.....that is why it is call "Lam Saravane".

But I will admit the other stuff have Khmer influence after all Lao King did married Khmer princess.

I have to remind that Khmer got it from India.

  • Yes, it's Laos song!

  • Please Asian brother, do not hate...

  • Thai issan mixing thai and lao tone together.

  • thank you for clearing that up cuzz i was fuckin trippin..

  • cool sarcasm... but... don't get people mad... lol. !)

  • Thai/lao are like family. The relationship between these 2 countries is unique because no other country close like Thai & Lao. Also Thai people can read most of Lao language and understand Lao language. Same as Lao. These 2 countries are so similiar with many things. I kind of wish maybe they will join together and rename the countries ThaiLao.

  • lol and bootleg of Thai? Theres plenty of things that are "Thai" that were essentially Lao. Morlam? Khene? Tham Mak Huang (Som Tham, wtf is that?) and vice versa with Cambodia.

A lot of these comments are so ignorant that it will never produce anything but more retarded comments.

You can't fight ignorance with more ignorance.

  • yea i totally understand wut ur saying but laostar was really mean with his comment so someone had to put him or her or prolly a ladyboy in his place

  • Laostar, you are slightly ignorant aren't you?

Salavahn is a city and province in the south of Laos.

Before it fell to the Lao, it was apart of the Cambodian Empire. But still, that was too far in the past to even remember.

So what if its a city in Laos today? Its a song enjoyed by a lot of people in SE Asia.

  • Mmm...mmm are you sure that it used to belong to Cambodian Empire? If I'm not mistaken, there is a city in Cambodian name similiar if not the same to Salvahh that is still in existense today. As for it fell to Laos? Mmm..most of the city and land fell to Thai, not Laos.

  • let's watch the language

    and listen to what

    she has to say

    can't we just get along?

  • WTF is so fuckingx funny look it up is there any city name Saravan in dirty cambodia...NO

GET YOUR OWN SONG THE ONLY THING YOU GOOD AT IS KILLING YOUR OWN PPLS LOL..............LAOS PRIDE POL POT JR

  • dirty cambodia? w0w ur the one to say ur just a bootleg version of thai people so stop hating.

  • This is lao song CITY SARAVAN IN LAO MY DAD WERE BORN khmer get your own song

  • I wish the sound quality is little bit better, I love this song very much!

  • Up there with the best, lovely song.

  • i love this song

    so good

  • ສາຣະວັນ..ປາກຊ່ອງ..ບໍຣະເວ່ນ ໃຜໄດ້ໄປເຫັນດີນແດນອຸດົມແລ້ະຮັງມີ

  • this song is like the Khmer song Sara Vunn, it is a dance. But there is a song that goes with the dance and it has the same tone as this one.

  • of course there are many variations of this same song in different languages. it originated in saravan laos and traveled as the lum saravan grew in popularity!

  • fantastic

  • This is a good song. Lao people are really friendly, I think you are making yourselves look bad when you argue about who is Lao and who is Thai when you don't even know the difference. Just be happy with who you are.

  • I always agreed whit what you said.I don't have the problem with this question of nationality.Thank's.

  • Old people and some others might still call themselves Lao, but that shows disloyalty to Thailand, and we are all Thai citizens. Isan people just got caught up in the border changes, but even I know my ancestors came from Viengchan and Champasak, but I'm from Yasothorn, so what does thta make me? Thai or Lao or Isan? It's just a name calling issue.

  • Thai people make fun of Isan people for being Lao, and census information was changed in the 60's so Lao was not a category because of Thaification policies and to stop Isan people joining the communist bandwagon of their Lao brethren. That is why Isan was historically underdeveloped. It's a wonder Isan people still speak Lao, since it is not taught in school but is the 'phasa heun'.

  • same thing that was happening to the Khmer Surin ppl living in Thailand but they still speak Khmer.

  • i love this song. i know there khmer version =)

  • if u dont mind can u let me knoe about this lady name?????

  • Salavanh is a province is present day Laos. It is also the name of the main city of this province. This is a type of song "lam" known in this area and the uniqueness of this song is that it instructs the dancer to do certain moves such as "thia long" to lower oneself while dancing, or to dance around your partner. I guess you could compare this to American country dance such as "swing your partner round and round" or to do the "do-see-do" (spelling?) :)

  • can you tell what this song is about..?

  • We're Lao on the other side of the river. Thai version /Lao version, as long as it has khaen and aao ou melody, we should be okay. Jing maen baw? I hate listening to this crap, we should be binded by our blood and common history, not our national identity.

  • Good answers.Thank's a lot.

  • Isan people share language, food, architecture, clothing, religion, Mekhong, & history. The French gave Isan to Thailand, so we're Thai ppl that listen to morlam & eat sticky rice. Lam Saravan is just as much our song is it yours, because when the song was written, people in Isan were part of Laos still. Can't blame Isan people for preserving Lao culture even though part of Thailand.

  • and i aware of that French govt colonial Laos and Britain in Siam in 20th, and the French given part of Laos to Britain that is Isaan today.

  • Issan was Laotian, but not the remainder of Thailand and I repeat that thai ppl them have their own culture and their own music also. Why to compare? Anyway Saravan is a beautifull song and other lao-thai song too.I like this common style in South east asia

  • i am not remind anyone but i just tell what i knew, does it wrong to speak up my mind? i am not take anyone side right now. i am Lao forever even i am now in USA and so your should know that! i been to Thailand many times and when i met ppl from Issan they said they are Lao, and you know what we sing Thai'song in the Bars and club but not make album for sale like in Thailand!!

  • Wow you two have been arguing. I think what Laogal said does have a truth in it. What most Lao feel today is that Lao culture has been kept intact in Thailand because of Issan but because it's Lao culture/people in Thailand they can't call themselves what they are ethnically but instead refer to themselves as Thai-Issan and if you replace Issan with Lao then that would be more correct.

  • It's what the King of Thailand had wanted before the Franco-Siamese War that gave Laos some of its land back. He wanted to erase all of Lao, had the French not won there would be No Lao at all then there would be either Issan or just Thai. I understand Issan preserves Lao culture but alot of the songs and cultures does not give credit to its original founders the Laotians across the other side of the Mekong.

  • Even in this song, the singer and dancers are wearing Lao style silk and jewelry. The weaving found in her dress is typical of Luang Prabang. It just seems to me that there is no acknowledgement from the Thais not Thai-Issan that alot of food and culture from Laos is present in Thailand. That is to say that Lao culture does not exist but because Issan are Thai it is all Thai ideas. I am from Thailand myself and that is my interpretation.

  • Thanks for all your comment.

  • you are funny of course ppl borrow each other sometime and no doubt about that;) and i do like some music from all around the world if they are good enough to my interest. it this make sense to you? no one better than anyone in this world cause the end we all go to the word death!

  • I don't know if i'm funny pple or not, but you ar'nt in this case.Don't you remember about what you wrote ?why start with a comment saying that the people thai listened to much Laotian music and statement then which you do not understand why? why not accept only the Laotian people also a maximum of music thai listens?

  • And i saw more laos people took thai song to sing a lot that opposite.I have been in laos too, i can tell you, in discotheque more thai song, lol..

  • i heard this song in Laos before and Saravan is in the South of Laos and why Thai ppl all took Lao song to sing a lot?

  • Dear laogal, you are not withaout know , many song thai are took in lao also ?

  • sure Issan ppl are formal Lao Lan Xang Kingdom. so we shared lots as the language, food and tradition of Laos still remain strongly in Issan ppl everyday basic.

  • Laogal, i guess you are lao. But,do you know,Thai people don't borrow his culture from lao, don't mystake please .Before when it was the siam, the north east of thailand had much people spoken laotian, it is right for that, that they speak still Laotian in these villages. But for the culture the thai have theirs well and even the Laotians like the thai music.North east of thailand only continuous the Laotian traditions(almost only food and speacking ), but not all Thailand.

  • So if you know ThaiGov, tell us who sing the original version, please ? I think you speack too much for said nothing, the next message you'll post here should be more friendly or i will remove it, i don't like people who speack only for make problem,ok ?

  • this one not original version , this song i heared when i was 10 years old now I m 28 years old.

  • I think this is the original version

  • this song is 10 times better than Jonas' version.
