  • If this country had the technological assets of today, combined with the industrious spirit of the 1800s,the US would be the greatest country in the world again..

  • @dh234 The US wasn't the greatest country in the 1800s by any measure....

  • Think of how ludicrous it would be in the 1800s to issue payments for anyone for doctor's bills. Do we really think that we are better off now that we do?

  • This man is a Liar. 3 out of 4 people do like this and want it. The republicans keep telling us we don't want it because they are hoping we will believe them. We are not as gullible Fox News Viewers.

  • 3 out of 4?

Where are you getting those numbers?

Please back it up or you are just as bad as you say Fox News is.

  • Honestly i can't remember exactly where it was.. it was either a survey taken by Huffington Post or CNN about 3 weeks ago. I look at so much stuff it is hard to keep track.

  • Ya Huffington Post is a real credible source. If you citing CNN I believe the poll question was whether they though there should be healthcare reform or not. The vast majority of Americans think there should be healthcare reform the differences come on how it should be executed. The polls now show that the vast majority of Americans are against the public option but they still want healthcare reform.

  • I haven't seen any polls that state that at all. Most polls amount to a survey of 100 to 1000 people. I would hardly call them spot on. Most people I run into are all about the public option. Anyway when it passes it will be a good thing and I personally can't wait.

  • Isn't it interesting that he's against the public option because it's a path toward single payer? That seems to assume that he thinks most people will *choose* the public option. And once nearly everyone is using it, it will be the single payer, by default. So in other words, he's against the plan he thinks everyone wants.

  • Most people have employer provided insurance, therefore it won't be their choice it will be their employer's. An employer may decide that the 'penalty tax' is more affordable than paying for health care, which typically exceeds the 8% penalty tax on revenue.

  • Any time a politician starts demonizing the opposite party I lose respect for them and what they have to say.

  • Republikunz r teh ivul greedy selfish zatanworshippers.

Gotta love the depth of liberals' response to this admittedly smug republican.

  • I just voted, on this video, 1 star. I don't agree with this smugfag republican.

  • John Malkovich

    is

    Thaddeus McCotter

in the sad story of a broken, self-deluded politician in denial at the twilight of his career, a pathetic man moviegoers will love to hate!

  • 1:24 is this guy describing himself? haHA.

  • He is indeed, onlyrey.

The "Blue Dogs", the conservative wing of the Democratic party have reservations about the public option and financial aspects of the bill. They don't use words like "repugnant", they simply have a disagreement they are arguing about, which is their job- to represent their constituents.

Republicans on the other hand are all about conforming to whatever GOP leadership dictates under the guise of moral superiority, using scare tactics like "Death Panels".

  • Monchanger,

Republicans too are representing constituents on this issue. Much more honestly than some Democrats last night. Death panels is not my concern, but Republican reps voted local majority opinion - which is their job. Differing opinions aren't well defined by sweeping stereotypical namecalling.

  • ACourtRep: When all polling clearly indicates that Americans are in favor of a public option, and yet Republicans claim otherwise, it is hard to imagine that they have anything in mind other than a political victory.

You claim that death panels are not a concern of yours, yet you defend your representatives who spent months conjuring up and railing against those nightmarish figments of imagination. How can you possibly claim they are they fighting for their constituents?

  • Moonchanger, Personally I recall hearing the numbers of uninsured as a beginning concern and recently, that 84% of us are happy with our present system. $1.3 trillion isn't necessary to insure those without. Medicare waste/fraud should have been cleaned up as congress job description, then we may have funding.

Both parties are doing their jobs.

Recent track record bailouts, priorities, GM, economy, jobs, etc, causes me doubt. Creating 111 new agencies causes me concern.

  • Thaddeus's got a smarmy voice, though...

Even if he's right, he gets the Frankenstein response.

  • there are a number of things holding up health care reform

1.) The democratic party has no balls at all.

2.) A large percentage of my fellow countrymen are functionally retarded and easily cowed by propaganda.

3.) Traces of the "red scare" still linger.

4.)Insurance companies finance both major parties. A public option would cut into their profits. see where this is going?

  • You know what's the worst about Democrat inactivity and being bought up by corporate America, the smug look on the republican faces when they rub it in whit an attitude that shows you it'll never get passed, they OWN those democrats.

  • the healthcare product Variablast, all thedifferent companies that own people like Mitch McConnell

  • *facepalm* What an idiot!

  • I support single-payer as well. Thaddeus McCotter is a twit. Democrats at the grassroots level largely support single-payer, not an extremely watered down and compromised "public option". Fuck the pissant "Blue Dogs".

Also: "revulsed"? I'm a little "revulsed" by McCotter and the idiots in his party.

  • niriafanorev:

Not sure an argument whose premise is "such and such is a twit" is compelling, but I'd be hard pressed not to applaud the enthusiasm.

  • This guy is stupid... I live in canada and for the US to get closer to what we have here (free universal healthcare) is honorable... No one goes bankrupt here because of an hospital bill, because there's no hospital bill... In the US, hospital bills are the 2nd biggest reason for personal bankruptcy, wake up people of america and don't let those corporate puppets kill YOUR interest in favor of THEIR interest...

  • mate they need to focus on fixing their healthcare not throwing more money at it.

because of all the spin about the american health system you dont know that america spends more money than any other country on health care PER PERSON. thats not total, thatS PER PERSON. all obama wants to do is spend MORE MONEY which is not going to fix the problem.

  • I'm an American, and I'm certainly no millionaire, and I support single-payer.

  • I have yet to see one of the "people" who protests it, that actually understand it.

The same people are not angry that 15% of GDP goes to healthcare currently :D

21% of insurance claims were denied in a recent californa study. -talk about "death panels" lol

  • I have yet to see someone who supports it that actually understands it.

The healthcare will be disastrous. Just wait and see.

  • lol I live in Sweden, so I could not give a fuck.

We have universal healthcare for everyone. It costs less than 8% of GDP.

People have good teeth and good quality of life. Women live to 83 years of age on and men 79 on average.

  • We don't have massive oil exports to pay for socialism.

We have a monumental debt right now along with run-away inflation. If the US Government actually had a history of fiscal responsibility, I might be a more willing candidate for Obamacare.

I STRONGLY believe in reform, just not Obama-reform. We need to get the Government OUT of everything as much as possible, or this country will turn out just like Rome. We are too big, too power hungry, and quite frankly, too stupid.

  • Well see what Obama says today, wednesday, in his speech. As I understand it he might have given up on the public option alltogether anyway.

I think the greed of the companies will be dangerous. Its better not to leave healthcare in their hands.

Government run but cheap and effective would be nice. Are there any "blue dog democrats" that can propose such a scheme? :)

  • america needs a system similar to yours in sweden. at the moment the US spends more money per person than anything else in the world. the system is broken but i doubt trying to throw more money at the problem will fix anything

  • Doctors wages, medicine costs and malpractice-lawsuits could probably need som regulation too.

  • That's cause your viking ancestors stole all the good genes.

    ;p

  • lalls I dont know abou that. I bet the US immigrants were tough as nails, but nowadays people like the chickenwings too much.

  • "Attacks on Republicans"? "Smears on the grass roots activists"? "This isn't a disinformation campaign by anybody except the White House"?

    Fuck this guy.

Health care reform hasn't passed because too many democrats have been bought by the same people who completely own the republican party and the democrats who haven't been bought are too weak to do the right thing.

Intellectual honesty Congressman... try it sometime.

  • aw cmon now we dont want business to have competition, would show that they have a lousy product

  • dont you realize he is superior to you and your needs, you are scum if you cant afford healthcare please do us americans a favor and croak, you are useless to the economy, lol
