Bow hunt for elk in WYOMING

Beautiful country. Would love to go on an elk hunt but I have a long way to go to prepare and be a skillful hunter.

I welcome out of state hunters, they are a big boost to the economy. I don't care for out of state outfitters lobbying our state legislature though, just like most other business in Wyoming they take the money out of state. I think we need to expand the role of resident guides here.  That would keep money in the state, and build lasting relationships with out of state hunters who have money to spend.

@BasNoAnBua I mostly agree with your statement. Except, i am opposed to ALL outfitters. They lease once public hunting land that many of us have been hunting for years, and charge THOUSANDS of dollars to "guide" people. Save an elk, shoot a outfitter.

@copenhagensmile02 I did not know that outfitters lease public land. I have never heard that. If so that is deffinately bullshit. Even yet, state law requires out of state hunters to hire an outfitter or hunt with a resident guide in order to enter wilderness areas, that is why I'm in favor of expanding the role of resident guides. That way we could keep the money in the state and take some power away from the outfitter lobby in Cheyenne.

Great vid ! Was this hunt in the fall of 2007 ? I think that all the Elk are now gone as is that Moose. I have Elk on South Pass just out of Lander ,Wyo and am looking for Bow Hunters, our Elk are bigger and more plentiful. Rifle season is always excellent , we enjoy a 99% success rate. I just have never been able to get any serious bow Hunters. If you are interested let's talk.

jacquelineveronique, no need for a 5 year ban to prove that it won't work. Go to any big forest preserve in NW Cook Co. IL, or neighborhoods in northern Cook co. Overpopulation, emaciated deer, deer/car accidents are all out of control. Residents in the northern part of the county are actually allowing "culling" hunts these days. Nature only controls itself when unencumbered, so stop trying to prevent predators(us) from doing our job. Be careful which tree you hug, I might have a stand in it.

Never hunted whitetails, but I can attest that hunting elk is the biggest, purest thrill I have experienced. When a big bull screams in your face while he's peeing all over himself and there you sit with a little bow in your hand in some of the most beautiful of God's country - that's as good as it gets.

Hunters may oppose it but they will know that nature will control itself and that huning is not needed and goes against the interest of hunters but I think that to start with a hunting ban for 5 years is a good thing and can review the measure b the end of the 5 year ban.

The biggest problem with bow hunting elk is that once you get one, deer hunting looses all its lure. It just does not compare and killing an elk zaps your desire for taking deer. Go Figure?

Nice Pics. I can respect your hunting parties success! My only comparable successes have been w/ rifle. With bow is very difficult!  I've called in a few nice bulls and have yet to get close enough for a shot. This year will be the year for me and my son!

I would love to but then I would have to kill ya! Ha Ha, This is a great area and we are glade to have most of it to ourselves durring bow season. I was just there last week and put a bunch of cameras out on wallows, with any luck they will help us in September when we get back there for hunting.

What gorgeous country to hunt. You guys are lucky you have it right there too. I live near Seattle and the closest place to drive with truly good elk hunting is in Idaho. There's some good spots in the Cascades, but nothing compares to the Rockies.
