  • Profile II is not a folder, it's also a fixed blade, can't see any difference between the Profile and Profile II? Have both boxes they came in, one says Profile and the other Profile II.

  • I have to say something about this knife, while I am a collector and have several expensive high quality knives I use regularly including several custom jobs, the Gerber Profile is quite a knife for $20! The one I have, has outdone knives costing 5 times the price of the Profile? A person with some survival skill wouldn't be in bad shape if they just had this knife to use for survival? The thing which I admire about it is that it's very simple, no bells and whistles here, just your basic knife!

  • A little TLC and this blade becomes a hell of a knife. The rubberized grip alone makes it well worth the price and makes up for the soft steel. Rain, blood, whatever, this knife doesn't slip out of the hand or the glove. With a nice fine grit sharpener, you can put an edge on it rivaling a straight razor, but, this isn't advised, as I found out the hard way. The blade can cut through the threads holding the nylon sheath together. Chinese Gerber. Still worth more than the price.

  • It's 440 TiNi Coated. I removed the rubber handles and did a paracord wrap with a modified button snap. It's a beater knife, really. Practice knife.

  • @IzzyJG99 Thanks for the info. And yes I agree. As I carry a Strider MFS personally I keep it in the truck and give it to friends when going out hunting or camping. They sometimes forget a knife and I could care less if this gets broken or lost at $20ish bucks. Now my Strider on the other hand is quite valuable to me as it has custom CF and Micarta scales. Thanks for the comment.

  • man you seemed pretty unimpressed with that one.

  • @TheJoshy1992 Yah I wasn't. It stays in my truck and thats about it. I carry my Strider and Emerson so I'm used to much more expensive knifes and I think that has alot to do with my lack of satisfaction with this knife.

  • @madman4049 understandable i guess =)

  • $17.99 at my Walmart. Well worth the price. Its very sharp and it is a Gerber.

  • its 7Cr17 stainless steel (blade)

  • I hat that i spent my money one!!

  • got mine for 17 bucks today at walmart now i gotta find a nice molle sheath for it

  • i picked mine up for 17 msrp is 32

  • if thats a gerber profile II then there is no difference between it and the gerber profile I

  • Yeah not sure to be honest. This is the only model of the knife I have owned. I know there is a folder profile II as well but I do not have that one. Thanks for the comment.

  • mine is very sharp ive had mine a while never sharpened it and it still cuts great

  • i got mine for my 15th birthday, Razor sharp, i've never been disappointed with any of Gerber's stuff, and at 25 dollars, you can't go wrong.

the only thing i don't like is how the tang sticks out of the handles a little too far, other than that, i love it.

  • i just got the knife today and it was razor sharp. Yours must have been a factory fluke. good review thanks

  • my came rasor sharp too!

  • I have owned the same one for 2 to 2 ½ years and the sheath has wore but still strong, the button is still good. I use it almost every day its the best knife I own.

  • Madman...Thanks for a look at the gerber and for doing a honest review on it...

  • Its gerbers mystery steel.

But it should be carbon steel...its strikes sparks off a firesteel

  • hahaha Yeah I haven't met anyone who knows what kind of steel Gerber uses. Haven't tried it on a firesteel yet. Thanks for the comment.

  • had the same problem

    called gerber

    problem was solved :)

  • The steel is 440 stainless.

  • on the box it said surgical stainless steel.

  • Yeah i just got the same one today, but i would say mine is pretty darn sharp, and worth it, and great video!!

  • Glad to hear. I must have gotten one made/sharpened on a friday:) Thanks for the comment

  • i got mine about a week ago and its sharp so idk about you guys but i would send it in to the company to get it sharpened are even replaced if mine was dull

  • They may have had a bad batch then. I looked at 3 of them in the store and all were dull. Glad to hear that yours came as it should. Thanks for the comment.

  • thats the gerber profile.

the gerber profile 2 is a folder.

  • Thank you and thanks for your comment.

  • I like Gerber, I have a PAUL knife! However I am like you I wonder what type of steel? I will mention here madman I had a Gerber multitool break at the plier on me one night pulling out a scew! Went back to my Leatherman.

  • Yeah I prefer my Leatherman over the Gerbers as well. Thanks for the comments.

  • i just bought this and the box sais it is a full tang surgical steel blade

  • Did yours come dull as well? I looked at 3 different ones in the store trying to find one that was sharp and all were dull. Mine just said stainless steel. I have yet to see anywhere or anyone who knows what grade steel is used other than titanium coated stainless. Thanks for the comment.

  • yeah alot of gerber knives are very dull

like my paraframe ive wokred on it and i just cant get it sharp

  • I was amazed at how dull it was when I bought it. I did manage to get a decent edge but since they don't mention the steel, only time will tell as to it's edge holding abilities. Thanks for the comment.

  • Yeah they are decent but I really wish they took more time designing the handle. Thanks for the comment.

  • They make a good affordable knife, but like you, I would like to know what steel the blade is. I usually sharpen knives really well, but I had alot of problems with my old EDC Gerber folder. Maybe It had something to do with the black nitride coating, I'm not sure. Thanks for the great review!! :) *****
