The only problem I had with the 4Kids dub of Pokemon was they skipped the episode where Ash catches 30 Tauros. That made me really confused on where he got them in the first place.
you forgot to factor in banned episodes like the legend of dratini and screw ups like jenny calling growlith arcanine at the pokemon league and such. for this i would give them a 2.5 for editting. still good for 4kids and they had a contraversy about jinx eventually making it purple... lame
@chipan9191 Actually, it was Game Freak that changed Jynx to purple, not 4Kids (though I do see what made the haters are coming from since 4Kids changed Mr. Popo to blue). In G/S/C, Nintendo of America changed Jynx's face to purple because of the controversy. Nowadays, Jynx uses it's current design.
They didn't mess with the story or editing too much but they did censor out a number of episodes. Because of this many American viewers were left wondering about Ash's thirty tauros that appeared out of nowhere. They also edited a number of small things, such as the rice ball to donught/cheesburgers you mentioned and at least twice they edited out Misty slapping Ash for being, well, Ash. IIRC they did not edit out the sound so you can still hear a "slap" in either the second or third episode.
Remember, KidsWB still had the management from the Animaniacs age, so DUH it was good! (then they fired him and everything went downhill) KidsWB had some influence over 4Kids, I think.

to be honest, im actually glad that 4kids doesnt have dubbing rights to pokemon anymore. instead Pokemon International has been doin the dubbing since Battle Frontier. i hope Best Wishes will be good cuz ive seen the japanese versions of the episodes and they were amazing
you know what's a huge 4kids editing fail is? In one episode Professor oak says that Ash caught around 100 tauros, but they never show the episode where Ash actually catches the tauros(caught in the safari zone) because there were guns in the episode

There's quite a few edits and cut episodes actually, the infamous seizure inducing Porygon episode, cross dressing James flaunting his cleavage, the gun waving Safari Zone warden. The voice acting I'd agree with in the earlier seasons, until they changed to the current voice actors, Ash now sounds like a chain smoker, the voices for Team Rocket are terrible.

The first season was actually one of the worst, in my opinion. Back then, the show was attempting to be much more comical, and they tryed to make Ash as stupid and clumsey as hell. Most of the gym battles Ash didn't even win, and yet he was still given a badge, which i think REALLY ruined it. Nowadays, Ash is much more serious and mature, and actually looks like he has a clue to what he's doing.

actually, you're mostly incorrect. The theme of trying to "catch them all" was really only incorporated in the first season. After that, the theme was kinda abandoned. So you're actually wrong.
Also, like some guy said earlier, they don't know their pokemon either. In Mewtwo Strikes Back, or whatever they named the first movie, when Team Rocket was in the cloning room, and they were cloning the pokemon. When the images of the pokemon went up on the screen, and Team Rocket was guessing them, 4Kids made a mistake and called a Scyther an Alakazam, but kept it like that to make Team Rocket sound stupid. >.>
I sorta liked Pokemon at first, but now it sucks. I mean, it's just contests, team Rocket, and Battles. Liar!!!!! Ash loses in the pokemon league when the game tells that the main character (in this case Ash,) was supposed to win. That is bull crap. They did paint over rice balls in some Hoenn episodes to crackers and (lmao) a sandwich. This sandwich rolled down a hill. A square sandwich. Watching the episode, you could also see that only one sandwich was painted and the image was rotated and re-sized. Apart from that I agree with most of what you said.
IMO, they should've kept Satoshi cuz that's the name of the creator of pokemon, making it special. Also Gary in the japanese version is called Shiguro.

yes, that's what I thought also. nintendo must be true anime fan. They wouldn't let anything to Pokemon, until I notice some stupid edit they did recently to Pokemon. Nintendo got freaked out and took the anime away from them, Pokemon USA and Taj got the anime now. But we lost a great VA. but it's better then what 4kids is doing to yugioh, and other countless anime.
for one more diologe edit a guy used chopsticks made out of a stick on the ground but 4kids americanized him to complain about forgetting his fork!
and the only story edit ash/satoshi is much more carefree stating he wants to have fun and hang with friends caching pokemon he thinks are cool rather then the more determined yet comercial "YOU MUST CATCH THEM ALL TO BE THE MASTER!" which might have put people off about it but was otherwise a great show that i was raised on!
She saw the 4Kids version first. I helped introduce her to the original. I don't see much harm in the dub as long as you know the original. Besides, 4Kids lost the rights to it, never finished the series(stopped at 26 episodes) and it's been cancelled for almost 3 years now.
It's about time to let it go.
Don't get me wrong though. The original is better than 4Kids' dub in every way possible. The only way I learned to somewhat like the dub is to not think of it as Tokyo Mew Mew.
The fact that they altered the story drastically implies that 4Kids wanted to change it, makong it something completely different. And how can she stand the AWFUL voice acting? It's not worth it.
I guess it was one of those cases where she was used to it since she saw it first. But she was pretty young at the time and is now liking the original more now that she's getting older.

LoL you sir are a genius and i agree completely 4Kids actually made The first season of pokemon one of my favorite animes the kept the story and had a decent voice cast and yeah it was lovely....but after that it had no point i mean from what i still belive ash is trying to cash them all and be the best which is kind of hard while he has no legendary ones also in the new season he has the exact voice of a girl even though he was originally voiced by a girl it sounded much more accepable 5/5 fav

actually, you're mostly incorrect. The theme of trying to "catch them all" was really only incorporated in the first season. After that, the theme was kinda abandoned. So you're actually wrong.

Also, like some guy said earlier, they don't know their pokemon either. In Mewtwo Strikes Back, or whatever they named the first movie, when Team Rocket was in the cloning room, and they were cloning the pokemon. When the images of the pokemon went up on the screen, and Team Rocket was guessing them, 4Kids made a mistake and called a Scyther an Alakazam, but kept it like that to make Team Rocket sound stupid. >.>

I sorta liked Pokemon at first, but now it sucks. I mean, it's just contests, team Rocket, and Battles. Can they ever get it in thier little heads girls play pokemon and battle instead of going in the contests? Also, i liked those special episodes (like the ice-type snorlax one) and it wasn't about Ash too much. It's getting way to centered on him.

Liar!!!!! Ash loses in the pokemon league when the game tells that the main character (in this case Ash,) was supposed to win. That is bull crap. And I was pretty sure there was one episode that made a machine gun, tank, and bazooka reference! However, bazookas were frequently referred to before that.

actually i couldn't disagree with you more on this show. 1st the voices weren't all that great. ash sounded kind of gay and meowth voice is just painfull. im also am going to point out that 4kids edited out 1 episode that ruined most of the season. i am speaking of the episode in which ash caught 30+ tauros. 1 episode he has none the next he gets 30 or more. now how did that happen?

They did paint over rice balls in some Hoenn episodes to crackers and (lmao) a sandwich. This sandwich rolled down a hill. A square sandwich. Watching the episode, you could also see that only one sandwich was painted and the image was rotated and re-sized. Apart from that I agree with most of what you said.

I agree,4KIds did a better job with Pokemon than they're other dubs,the only reason why 4kids version of Pokemon was successful because Nintendo was actually watching 4kids to make sure they did'nt screw it up,which is why they kept most of the original BG Music,
now if only Sega did the same thing for Sonic X,it would have gotten a better decent dub X_X
but I also wish Nintendo were watching 4kids from they're Kirby right back at ya Dub.

yes, that's what I thought also. nintendo must be true anime fan. They wouldn't let anything to Pokemon, until I notice some stupid edit they did recently to Pokemon. Nintendo got freaked out and took the anime away from them, Pokemon USA and Taj got the anime now. But we lost a great VA. but it's better then what 4kids is doing to yugioh, and other countless anime.

for one more diologe edit a guy used chopsticks made out of a stick on the ground but 4kids americanized him to complain about forgetting his fork!
and the only story edit ash/satoshi is much more carefree stating he wants to have fun and hang with friends caching pokemon he thinks are cool rather then the more determined yet comercial "YOU MUST CATCH THEM ALL TO BE THE MASTER!" which might have put people off about it but was otherwise a great show that i was raised on!

She saw the 4Kids version first. I helped introduce her to the original. I don't see much harm in the dub as long as you know the original. Besides, 4Kids lost the rights to it, never finished the series(stopped at 26 episodes) and it's been cancelled for almost 3 years now.
It's about time to let it go.
Don't get me wrong though. The original is better than 4Kids' dub in every way possible. The only way I learned to somewhat like the dub is to not think of it as Tokyo Mew Mew.

I guess it was one of those cases where she was used to it since she saw it first. But she was pretty young at the time and is now liking the original more now that she's getting older.
