I think there's justification for anger, as in righteous anger, and I don't think it's fair to compare that to just plain bigotry and racism, which Christianity denies. Many people on the right are rightfully angry about the treatment given conservatives and their ideals.

But you see, I don't see the issue as "marginalizing gays". I look at this from an entirely differently perspective. I look at the fact that the society that created everything I hold dear has ALWAYS had a marital institution, which has ALWAYS been monogamous male-female (yes, even before Christianity). The fact that a fraction of people, for whatever reason, claim sexual preference for those of the same sex is not, to me, enough justification to change this.

I would like to see a return to more productive and civil discourse.

Your post cut off! That dispute is over whether the substance of bread and wine remain present with the Body and Blood after consecration or just as "accidents". According the Catholic Encyclopedia, a major scriptural basis for transubstation is that Christ said "This is my body" rather than "The bread contains my body" or something to that effect. But since both doctrines admit the Real Presence, I'd say it's more of metaphysical dispute based on Tradition than a primarily scriptural dispute.

Flippancy grounds for firing? I think when you speak in public (as on the Internet under your own name) you should be able accept the consequences of those actions. John Edwards should be able to fire anyone he wants for whatever reason; it's HIS campaigne. And if I publicly said, "Allah is a demon who drove the heathen hordes to invade Christendom and attack the One, True Faith" I wouldn't expect to last long on, say, the Giuliani campaigne.

Yes they are - when performing those sacraments of consecration and reconcilliation they are acting in the person of Jesus through what is called apostolic succession.
We all are equal in Christ, you are correct. But just as men can't give birth, women can't act as a man in the person of Jesus. It is not bigoted to say that men cannot have babies. We are equal, but we also are different and complementary to each other.

Not a symbol, but mystically IS Jesus when performing the sacraments. So, as Jesus was a male, the priest performing the sacraments as Jesus is a male as well. We can't ignore that we are both spiritual AND physical beings. Women just can't be priests. The Church doesn't have the authority to change that. They CAN be involved in ministry, in fact, two of the twelve (i think) doctors of the Church are women.

That is good, and so are the countries in Europe doing. The anger i talked about was people like O'Reilly and Olbermann, and people on youtube calling arabs sand niggers. The unjust and uncalled for hatred against people they never met. You have a valid point. I would be very interested in reading your view on why Ms. Marcotte is harmful. /Michael

I think there's justification for anger, as in righteous anger, and I don't think it's fair to compare that to just plain bigotry and racism, which Christianity denies. Many people on the right are rightfully angry about the treatment given conservatives and their ideals.
As for Marcotte's view on the "rights" of women, I'd be happy to discuss.

I will never understand how it is that americans are so full of hate and anger. Not only to people in other countries, but to each other. You are quick to blame others in the cruelest ways, for what is happening, why it is happening, and it seems as if it always somebody else's fault. It seems as Amanda Marcotte has been criticizing the church and standing up for women issues. Even if that would be wrong, in a democracy, it must be right. I just wonder if being kind is something bad in America.

Yes, I'm angry when someone spreads falsehoods about my religion, describing it as "mythology" used to justify "misogyny", saying the Church cares about women only as bearers of more "tithing Catholics", blasphemously comparing the Holy Ghost to semen. I'm angry not because I'm American, but because I'm a Catholic Christian. Americans always blame others for everything? Meanwhile, the rest of the world has nothing better to do but blame and bash America, ever resentful of the "king of the hill".

All religions are mythology. Whether you believe them or not, they're mythology. The Bible could be 100% true and it'd still be mythology. The Catholic Church hasn't exactly been at the forefront of the women's rights movement. Non-Christians have no obligation not to blaspheme. And you seem to think that all non-Americans just sit on their asses all day, bitching about America. You're wrong.

You and I must have very different definitions of "mythology". You think Marcotte wasn't saying that the Gospel accounts were fiction? And not being invovled in the "women's right movement" makes one a "misogynist"? Pinpoint how the Church hates women. Why do persist in saying that what Marcotte said wasn't insulting when anyone can see it was and was intended to be? And while I was over-generalizing, there is a great deal of envy and resentment towards America in other countries.

my·thol·o·gy - noun - a set of stories, traditions, or beliefs associated with a particular group or the history of an event, arising naturally or deliberately fostered. There's nothing in there that necessitates fiction. The Church is sexist because it's virulently anti-choice, refuses to recognize women priests, and comes from a sexist tradition (Tertullian?). And yeah, Marcotte was insulting, but that doesn't make her bigoted.

Fine, but you can deny the inflammatory, negative connotation of word as used by Marcotte. "The Church is sexist because it's ...anti-choice, refuses to recognize women priests..." You're defining all these terms; I might as well say "Liberals are heathens because they're godless babykillers." Tertullian? Sadly became a heretic.

By "refuses to recognize women priests" I mean, well, more or less exactly what I said. That's Vatican policy. I don't understand what you mean by "You're defining all these terms".

Well, certainly the spending has been irresponsible, especially the Medicare Part D business. But it is hard to imagine Democrats spending less, don't you think?
On the other hand, revenue is way up, and the deficit is dropping even faster than the optimistic predictions made at the time of the 2003 tax rate cut.
This, in the face of the recession invoked by Clinton's dot-com bust, plus 9/11 and two wars. Not bad, when you think about it.
So, overall Republicans win by a mile.

But you see, I don't see the issue as "marginalizing gays". I look at this from an entirely differently perspective. I look at the fact that the society that created everything I hold dear has ALWAYS had a marital institution, which has ALWAYS been monogamous male-female (yes, even before Christianity). The fact that a fraction of people, for whatever reason, claim sexual preference for those of the same sex is not, to me, enough justification to change this.
