i don't see what the point of having a "correct" way on grabbing the softball when you're fielding you're not going to be able to fix the ball.. just saying.
The 4 seam throw would produce a backwards spinning motion causing uplift creating a straighter throw, meaning it's less prone to drop. A 12-6 curveball uses a 12-6 spin (hence the name '12-6 curveball'), which requires the thrower to snap their wrist downwards just prior to releasing the ball. The girl's snapping technique in this video (as she's down on one knee) will produce a backwards spin which is what you want, especially if you are throwing from the outfield to your cutoff or home.
you really shouldnt drop your hand to your thigh. you should take it right from the glove and back. it make the the timing a lot faster to throw the ball
@kkpres it could depend on wether you're throwing from an infield position or an outfield position. infielders tend to throw from the shoulder for quicker timing but outfielders tend to throw like this showed. at least thats how my coaches have coached my team.
this is a very helpful video. I have fall ball starting tonight for 10 yr olds and i think this will be extremely helpful! I went out and tried it and couldn't believe how much better it made the throw!
This looks really helpful! I have a practice tonight and I'll try this out! I really suck at throwing, so if I can throw tonight I will love you and your video for ever and ever!
I am a softballdad and very interested in all the technique of the sport.
There is one bit in the vid that I do not fully understand: as to the spin of the ball, you state that 'the four seams will be rolling towards your partner'. To me that seems impossible; do the seams not always spin towards the thrower of the ball? Thank you for coming back on this!
I noticed the same thing you did before I saw your comment. I believe it is the opposite of what she said and that she just mispoke. I grabbed a ball when I saw that and said huh?
I learn this over the summer from me coach it really help(:
