  • This video reminds me of Jimmy Mcmillan"The Rent is Too Damn High"

  • new york is the greatest place in the world, imo. if you want to live in a palatial house in a really boring city, that's your deal. I'd rather live in a small apartment in the greatest city on earth, and I do.

  • @listenheredc how much do u pay??

  • @stlcameron22 1200. paid the same thing in DC.

  • Now i hope ppl see how we actual new yorkers live. Its not really a disney world here

  • I could never leave new york.

  • i do pay a lot for my apartment by my apartment is huge so i'm good

  • I wish i could visit one day i live in this HILLBILLY FUCKING PLACE i really need to get out desperately

  • Great video lol

  • I go to New York Soon

  • Do New York City People live in old apartment buildings?? The City is quite prehistoric and the subway system is decaying at the moment.

  • 1:18

That must be such a bug out

  • i wanna move there. but when 2012 hits or we are at war with north korea im otta here!

  • @123nypd Would you shut the fuck up about 2012? God, you always posting up bullshit comments.

  • @Cena340 how th fuck do you know what kind of comments im posting/ BULLSHIT!!!!!

  • ima live there when i turn 18 ima move with my friend :/

  • Its 50/50 in NYC 50% small apartments and 50% big apartments i should know i lived there for 18 years.

  • the guy at the end sounds like coach mc gurk from (home movies)

  • I actually freelanced for one of these guys...hes a tad odd...but I wont say which one u would have to guess...lol gotta love NYC...we dont need space becuz who is ever home? we go out...we work...we do things...no need to pay for so much space.

  • I want to live in New York so much :(

  • I'm taking NYC over in 2011!!! just watch out for me!!! lol

  • Lol I live in a NYC penthouse and it is still tiny... But I would not change it for anything I love new York

  • Fast date site for lonely wife *lushfmlk.info*

  • hahahahahahahahaha! what do we expect. as the genie in Aladdin said "...itty bitty living space."

  • I've always wanted to move to New York, but it is sooooo expensive.

  • When I would live in NYC I would probably be only found in the nyc public library, central park and my own apartment, I guess. Then again I would probably need a job to pay for all of that (unless I have some passive income I could live off, which I have not 'yet'), so I will be there quite a lot too..

  • I have a dream of living in a small apartment like the one "Tyler" has in "Remember Me". :) i'll have an acting job to pay bills and rents. I don't care how big it is as long as it's livable. I'd go out every time I have time and just walk. Bring a couple hundred bucks for the street venders in Time Square and rip-offs in Chinatown. :) I don't know about you, but it sounds appealing to ME. :)

    I <3 NYC.

  • None of the people are from here!!!!!!!!!!!

    Fuck newcomers

They are the reason the rent is so high

  • NYC best place to work, but worst place to live!

  • uptown Washington Heightz baby! 190th st all day

this rent is crazy btw. talk bout a rip off

  • That last guy gave the best response: "New York is home."

  • the last guy had the best answer!

  • My spirit lives in NYC now, and my body will be there soon.

  • roaches, crackheads, mice, rats, noise 24-7, high rent, tiny space.. whats not to love?

  • I'm only about to be a sophomore in high school, but I want to live in New York so bad when I move out. I don't even really need or want a lot of space, would be nice, but not necessary, not at the time at least. I would be satisfied with a nice little apartment in the middle of the city with some windows.

  • @Jah044445 The best thing I can say to you is MAKE SURE you have a job lined up in NYC b4 you make plans to move thier, the middle of the city as you mention is higher than hell as far as rent goes..and damn near everthing!! save up!

  • She looks attractive

  • living in newyork u dont need a big aparmtment u work all day party a t night there no reason u always go out to eat all u need is a nice bedroom and dining table

  • lol@the staircase to nowhere. I think I saw something like that on HGTV, and it was spooky.

  • I love NEW YORK and i want to live there, but like i need SPACE and i´ll get really CASTROPHOBIC, hahaha those apartments are soo small, expensive and ugly

  • I live in orange county, cali, and the cost for rent here is $2,200.

I feel like we're getting ripped off. ):

  • what NYers have to pay for rent is insane, especially considering how small the places are. the one guy pays $1600 for 500 sf and this was 3 yrs ago! i have a 500 sf condo just outside chicago and my mortgage is a little over $500/mon!

  • So how does one find a good deal. I'm thinking of relocating. The report didn't really reach a conclusion

  • CSQUAT!....

  • Comment removed

  • She's talking to a depressed bunch. I live in a luxury apartment in NYC overlooking the city from a high floor. I'm about to move to a condo on a lower floor in a stellar building. It's worth every penny.

You get what you pay for. I don't want some cheap apartment with poor doorman service, a bunch of undesirables stacked up in each unit, crappy amenities if any, pests, no view and a crazy commute.

  • @glideordie

    and how much u pay?

  • @MrFlo306 A lot, LOL. But I really get my money's worth.

  • I don't mind the heights, it's my situation. If you're a rich snob, that's your problem. I'm sure you'll make a good sellout in the next bloomberg administration.

  • How does the sea squat thing work? Heck for a summer in nyc I would live in a tent.

  • Comment removed

  • The same in Egypt but the view is low class 600/month

  • "So how much do you pay for your apartment"? "Thats none of your busniess" I love it!!! Noisy ass bitch!

  • Very profound and telling at the very end with "New York is home" and not so much his apartment.

  • uhh i love NYC, one day ill live there, goddamit!

  • @kittygirl792 me too!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @kittygirl792 lol thats exactly how i feel!

  • @kittygirl792 born here HaHaHa

  • @kittygirl792 Amen!

  • @kittygirl792 Why it depressing out here I live here I should know it horrible to be honest I hate it

  • i love it when women have big microphones!!!!

  • wow poor New Yorkers....

  • squat!! lol

  • for us newyorkers, NYC is really home. the apartment we live in is just a place we lay our heads for the night. in NYC, there's a lot of places to go to, a lot of things to do---and you can't do all that by just staying in your apartment. that's one reason why NYC apartments dont need to be big. just a small space you can call your very own.

  • fuck off dickhead

  • i want to move to NYC from boring cali in a few years.

$1000 a month is a bit too much just for sleeping and eating. I guessing that most apartments have nice views which is nice to have but not enough for $1000/month.

My money is very tight. I might be able to pay for the aparment but what about transportation? i hear no one drives, so not paying for gas is great but how much does subway and taxis cost a month? is there a monthly pass?

  • @mastergradeone yes there are monthly passes (around $90/mo if u get em online)

  • @NY10023

    well said

  • @NY10023 BEAUTIFUL and so true.

  • nyc sounds like a great place to live, but i think you would want to have a roomate or two to save money.

  • I love NY but would absolutely not live there. You have to make 6 figures to live decently and not like a caged rate unfortunately.

  • With all the nicer cheaper and quieter places to live, why would anybody want to live in that cess pool of a city. OOHHHH I'm a New Yorka.Give me a break. Suckers.

  • hahah youre a faggot and would never make it in nyc so we dont want you regardless

  • @brava344 Great idea! live in a cheap, quiet place and sit around with nothing to do as opposed to living in the most interesting city in the World. You don't get it. Where do you live?

  • lol you asked them how old they were? jesus, lady!

  • New York is home, I agree, but living conditions....

  • You don't have to be super rich it depends on your status how many kids e.t.c. if your single living in New York and you want to live in Manhattan you probaly wnt to make at least 30,000 in a good area and you'll porbaly need a roomate or two.

  • i dont live in NY but it seems to me like if u dont have any money then there aint anything to do down there but watch statues and water all day.

  • i love NY and would love living there but would prob end up living on the streets cause it is way to fucking expensive. unless i become rich...and even then id be getting ripped off on the space/price value. how do ppl live there? and im guessing, Sex n the City, Seinfeld and Friends characters would never b able to afford their appartments realistically.

  • trust you if you moved to new york it would be the biggest mistake of your life. its so boring there really is nothing to do here. i cant wait to move from ny

  • @kizman92 Nothing to do in NY!!!??? I am curious where you are moving to that has more to do. Or are you just joking?

  • They would cuz in the 90s NYC was pretty dangerous compared to now and a lot cheaper... The areas those people lived in were not like they are now as they were before.

  • i know i used to live in uptown 139 & lenox to be exact and i remember the rent was so much cheaper but a whole lot of violence

  • supply vs demand

  • I'm trying to find an apartment in East Village, that won't exceed in $1000?

  • good luck, biatch.

hipsters gentrified the area. rent is uppp

  • in the lower east side? nice

  • Inventing a time machine that takes you back 15 years would save you more dough then paying rent there now... Apply for public housing though. Rent will depend on income, but you pay the price in safety probably...

  • I live in a small town i dont know if i could live in NYC unless i was rich.

  • HAHAH! This was funny. It sucks that apartments there are so expensive though. I'm not looking forward to dealing with it in 5+ years when I finally move there.

    "New York is home" (:

  • Yeah but you haven't seen it.

    Thats the truth.

  • mind you, angels live in new york,

  • it is gay, go there and find out, gay all round. It is so gay that people act gay, they act more gay than gay. I have never met a normal person in new york, just a person with a tiny body and a massive head. They were so proud of it that i started to hate the place, maybe that's a good thing, i might beable to fit in there.

  • joking of course.

  • Yeah me too, Minnesota right here.

  • i own my apartment in the Lower East Side of Manhattan: about $750/month housing costs for 400 square feet.

  • Can I ask where you found such a cheap apartment in the Lower East Side of Manhattan for $750/month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BurningLexicon owns. That $750 is probably a combo of mortgage and maintenance only. When you own in NYC, it's a whole different rap than renting. The monthly fees can be less than straight-out renting. Of course, closing fees and the down payment is a hunk of change to drop down when you buy but if you can get a mortgage, you're doing great. Just get a good job and SAVE for a down payment and you too may be able to own in the city. I own and it's great!!!

  • My apartment in Portland would cost an arm and a leg in NYC! Visit my youtube site and watch a tour. Good luck, New Yorkers!

  • i used to live in seattle so i know where your point of view comes from

i live in new york now

and honestly i could call new york home for the last 10 years ive lived here then seattle the last 30 years

  • C squat!!!!

  • NYC, greatest city in the world with the worst housing. Can't have everything. Still beats LA tho.

  • what wrong with la? =( i wanna move there for the weather.

  • LA is the best. Do not insult LA. Not only do you have no friends in LA, but your in a constant worry about how sad your life is gonna be. You can always risk your life down the sunset strip with a prostitute.

  • For some reason, I found this interesting, lol. Thanks. :)

  • ill tap that ass

  • second that

  • that was hilarious "yeah but you havent seen it." and "my old place had a bathtub in the kitchen"

  • The guy talking about the rats was cute. This gets me really excited about living there one day!

  • Good idea for an interview, was very fun to watch! Thanks!

  • yay that 2nd guy has a wallabies shirt on! Go the wallabies!

  • The way they build apartment in america sucks! Just by using drywall? What a joke

No matter what they (or you) say, apartment living sucks! apartment equates dunghole, you will always hear your neighbours, footsteps, door slams, radios, tvs, laughters, moanings you name it.

It's annoying, and what do you get at the end? A big insult and that is you have to PAY RENT! That's why I can only laugh at all you idiots out there who's willing to pay thousands of dollars for a month rent?

  • hey moron, there is nothing but apartments in new york city and there is no choice but to pay the rent, what are the alternatives? move to hawaii and live in a wood shack like you?

  • Hawaii? Wood Shack? Sounds like paradise to me!

  • @johnmonk66 man you not frm here is you?

we got plenty of houses everywhere. especially in queens, brooklyn, and staten island

  • @keinaan12345 New York born and raised

  • @keinaan12345 CORRECT!!

  • My apartment is splendid, but the rent is terrible.

  • ok i get your point but, how about pointing out all the good things about the city? and compare your bills with the bills of another who lives in an area that you need a car. On LI the average person in paying $300.00 a mo for car and another 150-300 for insurance on top of 1200 atleast for there apartment.

p.s. great deals in harlem lol

  • the people in this clip were hilarious

  • "New York is home." ...Arg. Lori! I'm hopefully moving to NYC in a few months, this video really gets me excited. I'M SO EXCITED! Yay.

  • I live in Greenwich. Love Greenwich my favorite place ever but the rent is high as hell and my parents only pay half so it's like damn and the room sorry I mean apartment is small as hell. Everything like the kitchen and my bedroom and stuff is in one room I hate it but Greenwich is my home and I wouldn't trade that place for anything

  • sPOILED bITCH

  • i spend 2k for a 1.5 bedroom in park slope...wonderfull neighborhood but....it's too much...i would never be able to spend 7k for a 2 bedroom in manhattan..ahhh crazy!!!

  • God, that's depressing. But you know what? It's touching, too. It's sweet to hear about everyone's little space. About the things that bug them about their space. About the personal touches they've added to it. About what they go through every day. It kinda makes me wanna cry, you know?

  • I lived in nyc and it's ridiculously expensive.

i met lots of people paying 2k and over for a shoe-box

  • I'm paying €900 ($1200) for 45sqm (500sqft) Munich downtown. Parquet, huge studio window, nice neighborhood.

  • Nowadays, if you're young and do not have a lot of money and wanna live in big cities such as NYC, you definitely have to find someone else to live with. If you don't do that then it probably means that mom and dad are pretty rich or you're fuc**** lucky to have found the right place.

    Nice vids though

  • when im done with college in a few years time im planning on living in new york in the futher any good places/websites to look at for appartments at a resenable price in a good area not to far from the city r in the city with a good view with a good bit of space. rember not to pricy. please mail mesome websites

  • Word of advise the farther you get away from Manhattan the better the prices, and you get more for your money. So don't be afraid of looking at apts in the bx brooklyn queens you can easily get to manhattan in an hr or two on the train.

  • I have a pretty good deal (a little over $500/month for a pretty large room). But it is in a rent stabilized sublet in W. Heights and my flatmate (do other Americans say that?) is an 81 year old woman w/a cat. And I don't like cats. But my room is right on the Hudson and we have a tremendous view of the bridge and downtown so it works for now, since I'm in school.

  • i visited once, and NYC is just too dirty for me...

  • Haha, so you are randomly interviewing people to see how miserable they are? Great call!

And damn feet and miles and pounds! Convert to the metric system, you heathens! Convert I say!

  • Hey whats up, I love you...baby

  • Thank God I left New York. People move out of the city. In the age of the internet it's not worth it to be close to the center of the universe anymore.

    Go West Young Man!

  • AGREED! Coast of "Tha Fo Eva Sun" is where it's at these dayz. N.Y. transplant living in Cali. Could not have made a better move.

  • It's nice living in a small coastal town. But costs alot to rent here too.About $1000/mo and up,but thats near the beach. If your lucky you can find cheaper apartments though.

  • very cool =D

  • i would never want to live in new york.

  • but no one really LIVES in an apartment is Cali.

  • i live near the OC in california and you can't get a decent apartment here for less than 2000 a month, after two months rent for a security deposit.

  • you poor city people, my fiance and I are looking to rent something in a nearby town (technically a city, but in comparison...) $400/mo, which is kinda low, but not ridiculously.

  • C-Squat on ave C in alphabet city is the best deal in NYC. You have to help fix the place up, but the rent can't be beat.

  • luv your videos. everyone seemed so upset about your question. Like dredging up a past that noone wants to talk about. lol. i need to look into that aquatting thing. 140 a month aint bad.

  • Thanks for the good words yo!

  • NY is definitely home but hey if ya have a 3family house in Flushing queens near fresh meadows park you can sell it for about 900,000 and my grandpa paid about 35k for it in 1967 haha

  • Yeah but you ain't taking into consideration inflation... example: a bottle of coke in the orignal days would have cost you lets say 10 cents nowadays it's a dollar. Things are more expensive.... so it works out tthe same really.

  • Huh. Very interesting. I feel very blessed now!

  • $1400/mo. 2br 1bath 800 sqft

  • Another reason I love living in N.J. - I rent an entire 4 bedroom house on a 1 acre lot split 3 ways for $1800 a month, a full attic and 2 car garage included. We have 3 cars and 2 motorcycles, 2 cats and more space than we know what to do with. NYC is a f**king ripoff and I'd never pay to live there with the EMO yuppie trash. Living in NYC is for people who came from nowheresville America and think living in NYC is 'making it'. -zen

  • Its the same in every capital city, all around the world :)

    Nice topic tho.

  • NY is not the capital of America....

I'm living in Auckland, which is also not the capital of NZ. But we have by far the most exensive prices in NZ.

  • NY is not the official capitol of USA, but it is one of the main citys. Your example is great.

1 more e.x is in Israel, Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem.

  • Yup, and yet more examples.... if I look across the ditch, the is Sydney and Canberra (the capital of Australia)

  • that means i should really appreciate paying what i'm paying for rent, which is considerably less than $1600; of course, $150 would be really nice, although i'd hate to see the size of that place!

  • I live in the San Francisco bay area and the rents are sky high just like NY. Actually, I pay less on my morgage payment than most pay for rent on a 2 bedroom apartment. Sad but true. Nice video. Isnt' it nice when you run into people who are friendly and like to talk? =)

  • check out my video and see how much space you get for 900$

I even share bathroom with like 15 people..lol

  • Nice SvenO! Just accepted your response, that's awesome!

  • I love the topics you choose. How do you get people to even stop to talk to you guys? Do you just yell, "Hey! Do you live in an apartment? Can we film you?"

  • I just start talking to them and then 20 seconds into the conversation the camerchick starts pointing and rolling. The person is already into the convo so they don't mind I guess, haha. We're stealth like that.

  • I liked the way you and the two guys all laughed at the same time about the staircase that goes nowhere - that was even more New York than the last quote, which was so sweet. Nice piece!

  • I still wouldn't mind living in New York, I love that town.

  • damn right NY is expensive :) I should know!

  • -spots the Aussie-

  • LOL!! love it!

  • The guy said it, "New York is home." People in New York explore and live in the city, they don't hibernate in apartments. But sadly, you do need major cash to live like a "normal" cat. Peace

  • 5 of 5 :0

Live in Iowa where I pay $325 for a 1200 sq ft apartment in an old house surounded by mature trees.

  • I still wanna live there.

  • me too

  • I get half of a trailer for $300 ^-^

  • To summarize: don't live in New York.

  • Ive said it before and Ill say it again, theResident is more entertaining than TV.

  • Thanks so much!

  • How long ago were these recorded and edited? Because up in Toronto, it definitley does not look that nice. I wish I had access to ur show! Please keep posting! I love ur stuff. and i just got my sister addicted! HAha

  • Thanks so much! This was recorded two summers ago. :)

  • How much do you pay, how much space do you get?

I live in Montreal where I canna get a job, but I pay next to nill for my sweetly sized digs.

  • I've lived in the same apt for about 10 years, so I have a relatively good deal. I pay 1625 for a duplex with a backyard in a posh nabe. But my floor slopes about a foot and all my kitchen cabinets have no fixtures. I love New York!

  • Go into the backyard with a shovel and start digging under one side of your apartment until you cause enough subsidence to level out the floor.

Of course, you have to be careful not to dig too much or it'll start sloping the other way and then you'll have to start digging under the other side instead.

Hopefully, though, you'll manage to get it level before your apartment sinks too far into the ground and becomes more of a Bond Villain "secret bunker" than an apartment.
