@championofhardrock The studio version of stairway is definitely not harder than Achilles by any standard. After like 2 months of playing guitar its pretty easy for most people. I mean its literally just climbing up the Am pentatonic for the first half.

I like every one of these selections, but I have to disagree about which one is the best. For me, it is - and has always been - "Since I've Been Loving You" that is the greatest guitar solo, not just for Pagey, but in all of rock history. That solo is the only one that literally sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it, and it's been that way for well over 30 years.

Stairway? A Harmony acoustic, a Fender electric 12-string, and the Telecaster for the solo. Now Achilles Last Stand, that's all Les Paul. ;)

@Gregson101 No sir. Page used a Les Paul Gibson on stage most of the time. The first year he used a Telecaster given by Jeff Beck. He also used the Danelectro for White Summer/Black Moutainside. In the studio however, he used basically whatever tool got the job done. There was no brand loyalty with Jimmy Page. He would throw a guitar in a lake if it got the right fizzy sound!

Thanks for this posting great job... one can certainly dispute the order or inclusion of one or another.. but the fact that these are gathered together really highlights Pages brilliance and esuberance. Sure he is sloppy at times, but the creativity and the clarity in structure and expressiveness makes up for this and more. I have seen several vids of Zep early on and so much improvisation not by Page alone but the entire band made each performance unique.. truly amazing.

What's "better than" mean? I just don't get it. A guitar solo should really stay in your head and your heart. All these guys -- Page, Van Halen, Young, Slash, Hendrix, et al -- have unbelievable moments captured for all of us to hear, and what's even better is most of the time, these great solos are part of an even greater song. Does "Stairway" have a better solo than "Back In Black"? Or "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)"? They're all fucking amazing if you ask me.
