@WaterCrane The game recognizes the boss area as Lava Reef Zone, Act 3 (Fun fact: Hidden Palace Zone is actually coded as Lava Reef Zone, Act 4). Rings are not reset when he enters this area, but the 100 and 200 ring 1up bonuses are. Because of this, he gains 2 lives when he grabs his first ring due to the fact that he has over 200 rings.
