My choice is the Prius because it has the total package - comfort, space, economy, refinement and carbon foot print. I have owned Hondas and Toyotas, my experience is Toyota has an edge in terms of longevity and reliability. As a dear friend owns a Prius 07', and has clocked 200K with the original battery and only spent on maintenance. His brake pads are still the original ones. I am pretty sure Honda is not able to measure up. The world has spoken as Prius equates to "Hybrid and "green".

@GMasis001 Regual civic is lot better than civic hybrid. Google Honda hybrid software issues. I was a honda lover( owned a honda car, bike, lawn mower, power washer) Switched from accord to Prius. Honda has nothing close to prius. 2010 Insight gets worse mileage than the 04 prius. Lets not forget rear legroom. Even a 6 year old design is better than new honda. CRZ is also another flop. Honda has lost its touch. Crappy transmission for v6, no nsx, no s2000 and no prelude. Honda should retire
I like the Honda Insight too, the entire car even the interior is futuristic, and I love the feeling of the steering. I don't really like the interior for the Prius and why is the speedometer in the center? A lot of Toyota cars have that and visibility is poor.

The reason that this gets worse mileage is simple- the new Insight is exponentially safer than the old one, and therefore weighs about 1000lbs more.
I would agree, though, that Honda really didn't take hybrids seriously (and therefore got stuck without one when the gas prices went up) so they put out this little number, which may have better handling etc. than the Prius, but as far as the drivetrain, it isn't even comparable.
Don't underestimate them... they learn fast. Had you explained the concept of a Chevy Volt to the GM CEO a decade ago, he would've sent you away. Now they're close to releasing it....
And don't forget that the Honda FCX Clarity is only driving in California.
The insight was right to win. Its cheaper than the prius and drives like a car. But I admire anyone who gets a hybrid.

I like the Honda Insight too, the entire car even the interior is futuristic, and I love the feeling of the steering. I don't really like the interior for the Prius and why is the speedometer in the center? A lot of Toyota cars have that and visibility is poor.

If cargo space was factored into this comparison, the Prius would have dominated. That is why the the Insight is cheaper. It's way too small.
