Good eye on that. I had never thought about it that way. I had always thought that Poison's name was appropriate though. I think it was also the dumbing down of America. Guitar solos in songs became a taboo too. Who puts six strings on something that can make all those wonderful sounds, and then just strum a few chords with it? Regardless of why, Melodic Metal was still the ultimate musical expression beside classical, and it's virtually gone.

Has anyone noticed that of all other types of music, Metal is the only music that appeared and disappeared within twenty years. I listen to heavier stuff like Maiden and Dio, but Tesla was good too. I think the reason it disappeared is because those that push our psyche don't want us to think. Metal made you think. It is the only type of music that will talk about anything except love. If I want a love song, I'll listen to anything else. Metal Rules!! Up the Irons!!

@enki714 no metal died in the late eighties because the record labels went with bands like winger, poison, and the likes of other big hair bands resulting in every band sounding the same. then of course some of the leads like Vince Neil of motley crue, Bruce Dickinson of iron maiden, and Rob Halford of judas priest all left their bands and tried solo gigs; however, they all eventually returned because they all figured out that it was the group that succeeded - not the individual. FYI.
