Personally, of they get these kinds of stresses this early in their career then it only adds to my already certain belief that these aircraft are just far too big to fly!

@ArticMuse The Airbus A380 has a wingspan of 261 feet and 8 inches. It weighs about 556,000 pounds. It has over 4 million parts and over 310 miles of cable running through it's majestic body. I would say a few squeaks are more than normal. You also have to take into account the luggage compartments, luggage, trolley's, tableware and service sets, not to mention the all the plastic paneling in the plane. Hope this helps!

I will be flying to Paris on Air France on an A380 in late March. I have great window seats. I want to film my take off. How did you get away with doing that? Can you get into trouble? Will they think you're up to no good if they see you filming this?

Just keep your camera with you when seated. Put it in a seat pocket front of you. When cabin crew is seated you can take it. They no that some passengers are enthusiastic to fly with A380 so you won´t get any trouble. But if they deny you to use it, then you will not have your film.

@Ottonturk Such devices cannot harm avionics or nav equipment, but they can interfere with their function. One device cannot necessarily cause that much interference, but several can. So to err on the side of caution, they ask for everyone to turn them off. As far as airlines that strictly forbid filming/photos, it's generally a liability issue as they see it. Anal as that may be, they got us by the short-hairs. I Fly the Film-Friendly Skies...and that's not United.

Your right on one part, though study's have shown that electronic devices do not affect avionics, there is a definite increase in signal strength that can potentially harm them. But that's not the point, the main reason why you are to turn off electronic equipment is due to study's have shown that their signal can set off the fire suppressant systems for the engines causing them so shut down mid flight or whenever the device was act

And think about this, with around 500 people on the plane, will the flight attendents really be able to spot you that easily? :)

It's normally for the first and last five minutes of the flight but most Captains do so right before takeoff and during the final decent into their destination. And by the way, it's not even an A380...

A380 length: 238 ft 8 in --- B747-400 length: 231 ft 10 in. The difference comes from the extension of the upper deck. Why you people think that an A380 dwarfs a 747 is beyond me.

Yeh. I agree. Although A380 is impressive in size, it is one ugly huge tube. 747 has that graceful fin dome head at the front and gets thinner down the body then has the tail. Just one of the most beautiful designs of an aircraft. 747-800 though looks so cool with the entire top deck fitted out.
