Its a Jimmie Rodgers song. Jimmies is the father of country music, hands down. He sang the blues but I never heard a yodel from a black blues player. Jimmie had his own style.
I would equally credit the carter family as well....if you get the chance you shuld look up jimmy rogers meet's the carter family...it's pretty funny... but man Jimmy was great!!! it's just so sad that he had to go so young...as far as modern country,I bet he would be like "what the hell is this stuff ya'll are calling country?", then he would go to a wayne hancock show. :-)
I think this is a Woodie Gutherie tune. Thomas Wayne the Train Hancock delivers it up in a tasty, swinging, Texas style. I just wish the video showed Eddie Biebel tearing up that Fender Telecaster! Thanks for posting, though.
Actually, I believe Jimmy Rogers wrote this song. Known as "The Singing Brakeman", Jimmy is considered by many the father of country music. I love his stuff, but he was another white man singing the black man's blues.
Fantastic!..this is just the kind of music to say "kiss my ass" to the Nashville establishment that is killin "real" country music...long may ya rock Mr Hancock.
Anyone know of some other good modern underground country?

This does sound like Jimmy's tune, but he didn't sound like this. Jimmy couldn't sing a black man's blues. His were the dirty 30 dustbowl blues.
