  • Thanks for this video. I am a newly accepted postgraduate from Hawaii--just got my college acceptance to St Johns. Very excited...thanks for the little tour of my soon to be home.

  • what song is it?

  • @anon572 - It's the movement "In Paradisum" from Faure's 'Requiem'.

  • Oh, RumpleProofSkin!

I wrote to you very long ago. Wasn't ur son studying Medicine at St. John's? I've applied there for PPE :o

  • I love Oxford its my fav place, love the history.

Maybe I might go to Uni there fingers crossed

  • Set yourself a goal and go for it. It's a great little city. Good luck!

  • You didn't even show the Hall!!! That's one of the nicest departments of the college!

  • finally someone who appreciates oxford for the great city it is.

  • St Johns? teddy Hall is where its at!!!Teddy, Teddy, Teddy!!!!!!we ran the OX!!!!!

  • you wish

  • what college you from?

  • Umm. No.

  • @ellecto um, yes

  • @milstonfilston Wait - what was I responding to when I made that comment?

  • @milstonfilston Ahh ... now I see. Come on, Teddy Hall's a garden shed.

  • @ellecto haha, garden shed. i like that. never judge a garden by its shed size. The gnomes in there were the coolest.hands down

  • A truly beautiful place and all who attend should be aware of what a wonderful privilege is to go there and read on one chosen subject...

  • Thank you on behalf of the college. I like to think some of us remember what an honour it is to study here. The rich kids tend to forget, but the ones from shit towns remember and appreciate it!!

  • Yay I'm coming over to St. John's soon. Looking forward to seeing it in person!

  • such a beast of a college

  • Its annoying that, for those without natural genius, upper-class backgrounds or simply pushy parents, the desire to go to Oxbridge arrives in your twenties, not mid-teens! Everybody I know would love to go back in time and resit their a-levels. Most people WOULD be able to get three A's.

Personally I didn't so much as revise for an exam until second Alevel year. Aah well. Birmingham university isn't so bad..

  • Don't worry, I'm at John's, I don't have pushy parents, I'm definately not from a rich background (I live in Crewe for christ's sake) and I don't think Im a genius. I know where you are coming from, and all I think is try to apply to be a mature student! There is nothing to lose and I know a lot of people who love it when they do!!! More people from working class/state school backgrounds should apply here, I miss them all!!

  • In trying to convince my friend that Oxford is FAR superior to 'the other place', I showed her your video. Her argument had been that nothing could beat St. John's College, Cambs for beauty and yet when watching the vid she mistook this St. John's for the other. Everything nice they have they copied from us! Thank you for helping me to prove a point, it was most satisfying

  • Its easy to get complacent about being here, but watching stuff like this makes you take a moment to reflect on what a beautiful place this really is.

Askalon, if you're thinking of continuing into a Masters or Doctorate, apply. There's nothing to be lost and everything to gain. I never thought I was smart enough either.

Thank you to everyone who's said its a beautiful place. To anyone who's at the stage of considering Oxford, just apply, apply, apply! You can do it!!!

  • one of the most beautiful colleges in oxbridge, beset with tourists though form what I heard, which is why I stayed away. Hmmmmm, maybe I'm regretting it a tad now.

  • is this a college? or highschool?...castle? it looks like a Castle

  • It's a College, within a University.

I'm going to apply for PPE myself.

  • what is PPE

  • Philosophy, Politics and Economics

  • I wish I could study there

  • Oh, how I wish I was clever enough to study there..instead i'm stuck with measly Aarhus university in Denmark..well it's not that bad I guess! This is just soo much better! But diffícult!

  • What are you studying?

Why not apply for a master at oxford?

    Mikey

  • Nice job! What's the soundtrack? Gives a good sense of exploring the college - St John's is one of the most interesting colleges in terms of architecture. Even the new Garden Quad is stunning I think :-)

  • A belated answer. The soundtrack is:

Faure: Requiem op.48 -- In Paradisum

  • Did you study there Rumple, and what?

    Mikael

  • hi

no, my son's studying medicine there

  • Ah, I see. In what year is he in?

Best wishes to you and him.

  • many thanks. he's just completed his first year

  • Ah, I see. Sounds great.

I'm going to apply for exeter college, law. Really hoping for an interview, when the time comes.

  • I wish I could study there T-T Gr8 vid!!!!

  • Oh how beautiful! I'm applying to Oxford for 2008 entry...doubt I'll get in, but fingers crossed!

  • Good luck. It's a fabulous college. And a wonderfully vibrant city.

  • this is so amazing, i love how you captured the wondrous feeling of being there!

by the way, i used clips from your video for a trailer, i hope you don't mind, i credited you in the credits and the description.

  • Thanks for the compliment. Looked a lot better before I had to compress it for YouTube. Fell free to use it. Send me a link if it's ever on the web.
