I tend to disagree on this point. The Army is taught to do two things, kill people and blow stuff up. They protect the country from outside aggressors and people that want to do this country harm. However, you never want that training turned inward against the people.

The police are there to protect the people and enforce the laws. When they go bad like this the punishment should be swift and decisive. It is no different then a sheepdog that has gone rabid, you must get rid of it.

The army are trained in alot more than killing and destroying, they are trained in first aid, dealing with people and situations whilst giving aid to people overseas etc...
