I shouted out 'I am'well the rest off the staff just looked at me as if I was mad, because they didn't have a clue what it was.my boss said i said that because I had a feeling that you would watch that kind of thing'
The first time I saw it was when I had a tv in my bedroom,I was about 14,it was in the 70's,i didn't read up on it,it just happened to be on,anyway around late 70's when I started work(i saw that it was on tv in radio times magazine ,and thought Ill watch that tonight again)I was sitting in the office at my desk that day(long before PC's) and my department boss was standing behind me at the filing cabinates (it was quiet in the office)and said 'who's watching Abigale's party tonight',
@billybeyond I just saw this for about the 9th time on BBC 3,its soooooo funny,I want to know what the guy with the ginger hair and beard is doing now, well all of them really,I often see the women who's called Ange
@9grotty I believe he was on the Bill for years, John Salthouse was his name, don't think he's doing much these days. He's been in loads though, Eastenders, James Bond, A Spy Who Loved Me, An American Werewolf in London. Just love this play. would like to see it on the stage one day but it's one of those situations where I can't imagine anyone else playing the Beverley role? Not that I think that Alison Steadman can't play anything else, she's proved that time & time again
@helierguy in roughly 1989 it was on stage in Scunthorpe,Yorkshire, but I would think it was by an amature dramatic society.I did'nt see it though.after I sent that comment I saw a clip of Alison Stedman on 'This Morning'2009,she was in Gavin and Stacey,I did'nt recognise her,she did'nt have that distnictive voice.the play is very addictive once you have seen it,if you get the humour
@9grotty very addictive....... think I saw it for the first time on a repeat in the 80's as I was to young for the original airing....... Instantly saw it was genius on all accounts not just for writing but also the acting, Alison in particular. How wonderful to still be discussing this play after all these years still. I watched it last week again along with her interview that was shown before.
We all need a Beverley in our lives..... ;-)
