A lot of NZ snow is wet, not powder, so this is perfectly feasible footage. Have most folk posting comments experienced avalanches first hand? Or are they simply surfing youtube's offerings and NatGeo's sensationalistic 'documentaries'?

As for celebrating: who knows whether they will laugh or cry after experiencing a dicey situation? I've done both before.

Hats off to the CGI if that's fake. Extremely detailed, the shadows from his spray exactly where the avo shadow is 0:11, 0:16 and his hand striking a rolling block of snow in 0:13.

It's fake because an avalanche is like water and you would slip right in. Avalanches accelerates from 0-90 in 3 seconds. Either you go left or right to your strong side and you would escape it that way. trying to outrun an avalanche is impossible for the human unless he can find a way to go 90 MPH instantly. I can verify that was not a real avalanche... sob, I sound like a nerd but I just wanted to prove this was fake... which it is.

I have seen heaps of sb-ing vids when the guy gets submerged and because they are a pro they can hold a good enough edge to get out. To Baliskier and other rocket scientists...

Powder snow avos can go real fast and you'll probably see a cloud of snow. But not every avo is like that. Heavy wet snow can go real slow. NZ is an island and has a different climate to the US or Europe. At times we may have wetter snow than some places.

Anyway the height drop isn't that much so how its going to get up to 200k in such a short distance is beyond me. Even powder snow avos can take time to get up to speed. Read wikipedia or an avo book
