  • Newt Gingrich theme song from his wives...

  • All religions are crazy. Invisible people in the sky who watch you all the time, know all your thoughts and acts. Its 2011 people.

  • To give a judgement, you have to have ALL the facts. Only God has those. The rapist and child-molester are sick and should be removed from society. But it is doubtful that, when they were children, they or their parents had such ambitions for them. If we don't stop the cycle of hatred it will continue. As Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye will make everyone blind."

  • Verse 2:

The kids had to cry for you,

I had to try to do

Things that a dad should do since you were gone.

    You really let us down,

    You may be heaven-bound

But you made one hell of a mess here at home.

    (Cho.)

  • Lyrics: You say that you're born again, Cleansed of your former sins, You want me to say I'll forgive and forget. But you've done too much to me, Don't you be touchin' met. Go back and touch all those women you met. Cho: God May Forgive You but I won't, Yes, Jesus loves you but I don't. They don't have to live with you, neither do I. You say that you're born again, well, so am I. God May Forgive You but I won't, I won't even try (continued)
  • This song was written by Harlan Howard and Bobby Braddock for Rosie Flores and is on her 1996 Rounder "Rosie Flores - Honky Tonk Reprise" CD.

It's a gem and I love Iris's version of it too.

  • Rosie Flores does a great version of this song too.

  • I love Iris Dement

  • The whole thing is that only humans can possibly forgive... Don't count on god to forgive since this harmful invention (god, not forgiveness) does not exist.

Great Iris who got it !

She is puttin' her finger right on it - the man fuckin' sround and the woman supposed to be sittin' around accepting the shit... Not this woman! iRIS - GO WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the Rose Flores version at bit more!

But Iris can bring anything to New Zealand!

  • song says a whole helluva lot,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • I was not judging Ms DeMent. I was making a critical comment about her song (and the “voice" of the song, or poem). Please don't confuse ethics with aesthetics. In the same way, I might be able to forgive a Nazi, other racists, or even yourself (on the grounds of invincible ignorance). But I have a profound philosophical objection to Nazi (and other racist) beliefs, and an intellectual contempt for your absurd characterization of me.

  • Yes, I can't really applaud someone who boasts that they will never forgive another human being. The voice is pretty, though sometimes a little brittle and almost edgy; but the underlying bitterness of the song leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

  • Why?

  • @Clarice007 Because I can't identify with the sentiment expressed. I used to feel the same way when the Nazis were singing (however beautifully) about the superiority of the “Aryan race." I might like the tune of Jingle Bells, but if the words were “Kill the Blacks, Kill the Blacks, Let's All Kill the Blacks..." I wouldn't enjoy it. Sorry. I'm funny that way.

  • @hellesterne Forced forgiveness, to my mind, is akin to the very types of authoritarianism you claim to object to. It really isn't for you to judge whether someone should forgive or not.

And to come out with that nonsense in response to this song really does make me question your ethics.

Are you saying people should forgive the Nazis? Or the racists? I think you need to get your story straight.

  • @hellesterne my friend, next time you pray to your all powerful skydaddy, ask for some common sence and some sence of humor. yes. some people are beyond forgiveness. hitler, despite his belief in god, will not be forgiven. he may repent in front of the pearly gates from 1945 to the end of time, and he wont be forgiven. that goes for all murderers and rapists, christian or not.hell, even all those priests molesting altar boys if you are willing to forgive them, i want nothing to do with you.

  • @avalsonline2 Never second-guess God. Who are you to say whom God should forgive? Indeed, who are you to say that some people are beyond forgiveness? I do not believe that. I am sorry you want nothing more to do with me, as I was hoping our correspondence might bring about an improvement in your spelling. (“common sence"?!)

  • @hellesterne you who am i to judge god? or people? who else can? dont kid yourself. you judge people every day. heck, judging by your comment you have judged god to be good. you know, some people are forgivable. drunk driving-a crime, but a mistake. willful and conscious genocide of millions of innocents, thats unforgivable. rape of little children-unforgivable. under YOUR system, all of that goes away, because they believe in jesus. if that is the morality of your god, YOU can have it. not me

  • That`s the best i ever heard. Thank you Iris De Ment for singing and MZ0007 for posting it.

  • AMEN!

  • wht kinda nastyness is dat..that's how someone sings ..really

  • Some of the cruelest and most unforgiving people I have ever met claimed to be Christians. But just because someone claims to be Christian, that in of itself does not make them a Christian. I do love the truth in this song!

  • hey is that my wife?

  • ppmmcc, It was the B-side of the single 'Our Town'

    Written by Rosie Flores.

    Superb.

  • can't load this either & yuotube help no help!!

  • Awesome. five stars

  • I hear this song almost like my future ex wife is singing it to me.

So I am gonna honor my unfound wife and take care of my unborn children like my dad did for my mom and me & my sisters. Nothing is more heroic & important in life than that. Nothing. Men & women should respect, honor, & love each other.

  • Love it!

  • the emotion in this song gives me goosebumps! its so raw...

  • Rosie Flores put it out on one of her records, but i don't think you can even find her version anymore, the song i believe is the louven brothers that emmylou is currently trying to release more of thier older songs, i may be wrong though

  • I love Iris Dement. Where can I get this song? Its not on any of her CD's.I have them all? Can anyone help me? Thanks

  • Iris has the voice of an Angel, and if God forgives me, I hope I´ll be hearing such voices When My Morning Comes Around..

  • This reminds me of the Lyle Lovett song "God Will", and that's a good thing.

  • i going to hell.

  • What you're hearing that seems so unique....is the "Arkansas" sound. It ain't Kentucky or Alabama or West Virginia or Tennessee.........Iris is pure Arkansas Hillbilly......and they are all sweet loving simple folks....that sound alot like Iris sings.

  • Indeed. I live in North Central Arkansas, not very far from Iris's birth place of Paragould. A lot of "sweet loving simple folks" here. But few that sing as sweet as this.

    Peace,

    Toby

  • Oh Lord what a truthful song! Iris is just wonderful singing this!

  • she's saying what many have said both male & female

  • very great song!

  • Great song!! True human emotion and the pain of dealing with everyday life.

One artist with one instrument keeping you enthralled. Thats a great artist.

My sweetheart& I have been married for 35 yrs. now. We have 5 kids. I firmly believe that angels record every tear a woman sheds. I wish I could say that I never made her cry.

Neither of us has ever had the desire to cheat. I just do not understand why some do.

  • She is one the hottest gospel singers down here in the South!

  • I knew she was a great singer, but this is amazing, The hatred and detestation are so obvious. This is one of a kind. Superb

  • This is great, 'classic' country song precisely because it comes directly from experience. Period.

  • The words of a realist.

People "discover" themselves - the rest of us just get on with it.

  • Hell hath no fury as a women scorned, or something like that. Anyone who has ever been betrayed, I think we just found our song. No time to cry is also one of my favorite I.D. songs.

  • Lord, nothing is funnier than a humorless Christian.....especially for those of us who live here on earth.

  • I'm glad you said that, dinnerbucket. It seems Islam is not the only religion grossly tainted by such mediaeval-style authoritarians, fanatics and fundamentalists.

  • dinnerbucket9 and MZ0007, you both need to ease off on the religious references and get yourselves a sense of humour, if you can. Try to educate yourselves to recognise "tongue-in-cheek" comments when they are put before you, and stop bringing religion into everything. Youtube does not need it;)

  • @MZ0007 to even equate Christian fundamentalists with Islam fundamentalists is beyond stupid. One won't invite you to a church supper. The other will stone you for adultery. One will try to ban playboys, the other will blow up the world trade center. If you could even see how ridiculous that comparison sounds. You've been listening to too much Jon Stewart. Great Song by the way. Dement is a treasure. But how about stopping the Christian bashing.

  • @Nowbeach Clearly you have not researched the Dominionists, some of whom actually advocate stoning their adult children if they disobey. Google VisionForum, Doug Phillips and Geoff Botkin for starters. There are so-called 'Christians' in this country who are just as scary as Fundamentalist Muslims. And they are having lots of kids and running for office. They want the US to be a theocracy just like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran are.

Luckily singers like Iris gets this.

  • @artemisecstasy It's against the constitution, isn't it? I thought america was meant to be the land of the free?

  • @dinnerbucket9 My pastor used to to say that there's a scripture that says 'Jesus wept' but not one that says 'Jesus laughed'. God knows I've prayed & cried a lot for my sin & for others, but without laughter, we may as well all lay down & die! There are those that claim to be 'born again' that think everyone else was 'born yesterday'. A pastor once robbed me & another pastor wrote to him & said he ought do something about it, so he wrote & said he was sorry, but sent no money! Now that's funny!

  • It was with a mixture of shock and incredulity that I listened to Iris Dement singing the lyrics to this song, but it just goes to prove that a true artiste can express the full gamut of emotions from A to Z. I'm not the better of it yet!

  • This is more of a slap against those who use being "born again" as a cover for crappy behavior. Reminds me of a lot of high-profile people recently. Iris didn't write this anyway; it's a braddock/howard song. Iris' voice here is about as pure country as it gets....beautiful!

  • Oh, come on. For all the heartache in the song, the writers meant this to be a humorous line: "God may forgive you, but I won't, and yes, Jesus loves you, but I don't. They don't have to live with you..." Somewhere around here is a clip of Iris doing this on Austin City Limits, and it got a great laugh. See, they got it.

    Peace,

    Toby

  • Col 3:12-17. "Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye

  • There is no obligation under the scriptures to forgive an adulterous mate. 1 Cor 6:9,10.

  • Taken a certain way this is a dead on indictment of the Bush Administration. Boolyah.

  • Your the best Iris.

  • This redfines my undersanding of a Red State Girl.

  • Gritty, tell it like it is, Iris.

    Love ya Babe

  • Phenominal singer, another classic song from her.
