In the old days (before the 1980's) there were concession stands on the platforms where you could buy hot dogs, drinks and snacks. And there were machines where you could buy candy, gum, sodas, even ice cream sandwiches.
Many times as a tired intern I scarfed down McDonalds on the way home from work.
