  • never beat the irish spirit :)

  • Everytime i hear classic songs like this it makes me want to slaughter Simon Cowell for manufacturing the utter shite we have to endure these days .

  • an explanation of my familys history xxx

  • @scarlett2574 WOW! is that song all about Your familys history?

  • JTpoguemahone this is a video i would be proud to add to my favorites. i think you did the song right with the pictures you chose to go with it. i come from a line of irish immigrants, and i think this video commemerated their legacy nicely.

  • The island it is silent now but the ghosts still haunt the waves...

  • Enormously great! Everlasting classic!

  • The work of a genious.

  • @ZLUGGO and a drunk!

  • @Icetitan777

What has that got to do with anything ? Many great writers were drunks.

  • @trollfinger have a listen to across the broad atlantic, holy shit the album sucks cause he's so wasted! he was such a great artist, but sadly booze ruined it. Thats what it has to do with it.

  • @Icetitan777

You are joking. The whole album is as fantastic as it's been since they day it came out in 1987. Are you deaf?

  • @siboobooboo I guess i am, don't think listening to a fall down drunk rumble through his set slurring words. my bad,lol

  • @siboobooboo your right the pogue's are awesome. Where is the irish pride? we should'nt be arguing amongst ourselves .we should be defending each other against the defamation of our race.

  • @claddaghcelt the Irish are a nation. Not a race and Pride is a deadly sin

  • @PerturbedCarrot then im a sinner and your a troll.

  • @Icetitan777 Simon Cowell is sober, look what he does to music, what would prefer?

  • Unique song. Never see this Song in the 1 Euro Box in a recordshop.

  • This is the coolest thing ever! Great job!! I was just saying that I hoped someone would do this, love it!!

  • the best songwriter on earth..........

  • amazing good pictures great song!!!!!!!!!!

  • gracias

  • Thanks for a beautiful video, a perfect compliment to Phil Chevron's five and half minute national epic of the Irish diaspora. Grand!

  • I did a project on this song years ago. It really opened my eyes.

  • Whats Charles Bukowski doing @ 3.01 ? !!!

  • great vid and great pictures on immigrants, especially now a days this the tea party creeps everywhere. You are all immigrants except the Native Americans and look what happen to them...this country needs to stopping hating everyone and just deal with everyone.!

  • what sort of prick dislikes this video?

  • America's conquest...

  • this song has been torturing me the past few days.. just the lyrics and notes follow me everywhere..

  • great song and the perfect images for it. Some of the other videos on youtube for this song are either too literal or have nothing to do with it but this video captures it perfectly. Well done.

  • dropkick murphys used this in their st. patricks day play list :)

  • Love the way you put the song with the photos. I can't believe there is 1 dislike..A great song. Thanks for sharing it :)

  • Nice collection of photos for a great song

  • Beautifully done setting for the song, thanks for doing it.

  • I blame the stupidity of the english for the irish suffering. Such egoistic stupidity, colonisation mentality against those as wild as the pictish irish is stuuupid.

  • @lebleh

Grudges won't get us anywhere. We still have the music though.

  • @lebleh I think you mean the British, the Scottish and Welsh where also involved!

  • Fucking absolutely brilliant

  • 1 person missed the boat lol

  • happy thanksgiving, 2010

    From "The New Colossus"

    *

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

    Emma Lazarus, 1883

  • Can you imagine - thousands sailed knowing that the odds were stacked against them actually making it, all with their families and the dream of "beaking the chains of povert:y. Thank you for this song and its tribute to all immigrants who take the ultimate risk.

  • And we danced to the music and we danced...

  • One person must be deaf and dumb.

  • the drumming at 53 secs is off time

  • @kiltownkid And the singer is often a litle off key, even when he's sober. But these flaws add to this group's appeal, in my opinion.

  • This song makes me sentimental (more than usual). My grandparents emigrated in the 1920s from Co. Derry and Mayo. My grandmother was sponsored by her cousin and arrived through Ellis Island. She sailed from the sweet shores of Cobh. My grandfather missed the lottery and had to sail from the North to Nova Scotia with just 20 schilling left in his pocket.

  • go raibh mile maith agat

Excellent tune, thanks for the upload.

  • my favorite song. Thank you Shane.

  • @ulme1966

    actually, Phil Chevron wrote it

  • @JTpoguemahone really? all of it? not bad for a gay irish Nottingham Forest fan. No disrespect whatsoever, Phil is a god xx He earned undying respect after Hillsborough

  • @JTpoguemahone

Still the work of a genious... Phil's an old punk rocker from the Radiators From Space. Another brilliant band.

  • St. Mary Pray For Us.

  • The song makes me emotional, happy and angry...angry at the fact our good people had no option but to go across the pond.....Now it looks as if it could happen again to our young people........

  • Beautiful video. Very moving.

The Pogues were awesome: like The Clancy Brothers meet The Clash.

  • Makes me cry every time I hear this. I love you Grandma and Grandpa.

  • One of the most brilliant sons ever written.

The lyrics sublime imagery evoke a time almost forgotten, when the tired, poor wretched refuse, made their way to a new life in a place called AMERIKAY. May their memory live forever!

  • I just love this. No words to explain, thankyou so much for posting this, even tough i own the album. Just brilliant
