  • Simply cool..

  • The dislikes probably came from right wing nut cases

  • Karnivool Is Friggin Amazing.

  • Better the full version... but anyway, call this "song" is really derogatory...

  • Brought me to tears...amazing...

  • This is like the best track ever!

  • this song. the end.

  • My favorite Karnivool track!

  • Check us out, new track up! Influences from Tool, Alter Bridge, Karnivool, Mastodon, Dead letter Circus, HIM etc...

  • don't stop what ur doing karnivool. We don't need anymore climate change...soooooooooooooooooooo good

  • Hey everyone! Stop by and check out our music. We have the same feel as these guys and they are one of our many influences!

  • so calming, awesome

  • I feel in paradise *.*

    this song is beautiful

  • my art teacher saw these guys live years ago and brought me a poster back fucking love em im a tool fan and tbh i can listen to these guys all day

  • chord progression from 8:20 - 8:43 is AMAZING!

  • Awesome Band, can't stop listening to them. Also, they kind of remind me of Tool, with some of they crazy time signatures and all.

  • come do gigs in england please :( you have better music than us :(

  • Awesome aussie spin on Tool's vein of prog rock. I can dig it.

  • Goddard, best guitarist ever!

  • Wow this was totally not a song I was looking for, but I <333 it! :D

    And look!

Another band I'm going to start to love lol

  • This band owns cause their fuckin Aussie ..

fuckin yanks got nothing on us ..

  • @xLatinoxGymnastx im with ya on that mate, australia has the best bands in the world

  • Best live band ever. And I've seen NIN AND Tool.

  • the ground did shake, the heavens trembled, and the seas quietened their roar. the Gods spoke and said, let this song me heard soaring across the hills, mountains and valleys. and it was so. and its awesomeness burnt with the fury and power of a thousand suns. its epicness was made known!!

  • Isn't this song supposed to be 12:04 long? why did you cut out the extra time?

  • @ArmyOfOne313 yeah. uploaded when youtube only allowed 10min videos

  • i get a alice in chains vibe. with the harmonies :)

  • the end is missing :(

  • Karnivool sounds like Rishloo...and neither sound like Tool. There!

  • @endoTHEOSIS : Rishloo wish they had percussion as consistent and frankly, as groovy as Karnivool do. Otherwise, they're a great band, no doubt about it. :)

  • I fffuckin love this Song !!!!!!!

  • acheter sound awake ! putain d'album tool a cote cest de la merde!

  • I agree with the tool similar comments, yes there is some of a resemblence <sp, but tool does that better, karnivool is awesome on there own. Its like when tim burton made a new willy wonka, yeah kinda the same idea but both seperate were good movies, you just had to watch the new one not comparing it to the original. I still vote the gene wilder one better but i love tim burtons ways with it.

  • @Mattlandre

    Here Here :)

  • karnivool r influenced by there fukd up heads nothing else.man u ppl need to c a interview were they say that get ova it.

  • @troy861 too bad that's false. i mean, it is sad, but it is impossible to completely produce music out of your head. everyone uses other music as an influence, you have to, to understand what sounds good to you. but i agree that karnivool uses their heads MORE than other bands, and less from other bands, because of their creative parts. Drew Goddard has stated many times he is influenced by Fredrick Thordendale from Meshuggah (which got me into them, great band) and people like Steve Vai.

  • @klearlykahmerican thats pure bullshit. when i write music the feeling comes straight from the heart. its not synthetic or man made. inspiration and influence are two different words...at least for the pure of us

  • most perfectly mixed drums ive ever heard, throughout the whole album. steve judd u legend.

  • This song completely changed my life and my outlook on music. I can't think of any other band on the face of the earth that can even come close to matching these guys in performance (live and studio), lyrical content, and just overall soul. Karnivool has it made.

  • @JDoemel Really?!? You've never heard of Tool?

  • @Darfaultner Yeah, I've heard of em. Karnivool runs circles around them though, even if Tool's been around longer and invented the style first.

  • @JDoemel Karnivool are awesome, but no-one runs circles around Tool, it's just not possible. You just need a few more listens to Aenima and Lateralus.

Seriously, try 'em out, if you like this genre, Tool rules it, bar no-one ever.

That's obviously my personal opinion, but it's the opinion of enough other people to make every Tool album debut at number one worldwide. And for this type of music, it's phenomenal. 'Cause still, most people have never heard of Tool. Still love this band though.

  • @Darfaultner Well, fantastic, I'm glad we're at least Karnivool fans lol (for some reason I didn't think you were). I dunno, I just saw Karnivool's live act, which was phenomenal...and I love how Karnivool's able to switch freely between the harsh and the soft so easily and freely. Plus they made an appearance in the DnB scene with Pendulum, which is kick-ass in my book. Tool's cool for sure, I just feel like they draw out their songs intentionally...but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy them! =D

  • @Darfaultner - Pretty much all music is influenced of previous bands. Music becomes more and more hybrid as we move along in time - Tool for example were influenced by other music, just as karnivool was influenced from tool. Who's to say how far and where the line of influence goes back truthfully - People have their own particular tastes, and no-one particularly "rules"... Pop music just sucks dick though. lulz.

  • @dougymoo What you say is spot on in regards to bands influencing later bands and germinating hybrids of what they were. However I think there is no absolute precursor to Tool, they have an original style. Complex, trippy, soulful metal. They do say that they were deeply influenced by King Crimson, but if you hear King Crimson, they are nothing alike. Maybe Led Zeppelin fits that style, but they too sound nothing alike. Tool are profoundly original. Karnivool however, sound like Tool.

  • @Darfaultner I agree with you about Tool except that they really were influenced by King Crimson immensely, Not tonally, but rhythmically 100% If you've ever listened to the albums "Discipline" or "3 of a Perfect Pair" you'd essentially be listening to the precursor to just about every Tool riff ever written. Not that that is a bad thing, I love both bands and am just now getting into Karnivool, but you can see the progression from KC even to bands like Primus and Between the Buried and Me.

  • @dougymoo Continuing, please don't get me wrong. I just saw Karnivool live in a small gig in Darwin and I will remember it forever, they were sublime. This is exactly my type of music, I love it and I too attempt to write in this style because it is so powerful. But if you go back and read my original post and what I was responding to I think you'll understand where I'm coming from. BTW, This song floored me live.

  • @Darfaultner I guarantee more people have heard of Tool than Karnivool. Once again, people are making the mistake that Karnivool falls into the same genre of music as Tool. Both bands have unique sounds, and to say they sound alike is simply naive. It seems like uniqueness has become a class, which is a pity. I feel people who absolutely think Tool is the "best" simply haven't heard enough music. So instead of telling people to listen to more Tool songs, you need to listen to more music.

  • @klearlykahmerican So you're calling me naive for thinking that Karnivool sound much like Tool. Are you serious? To think that they don't is naive. Are you a Tool hater, because you like Karnivool? Why? They are obviously very similar and very good. OBVIOUSLY. I have heard every song of both bands and I love all of them. But they have the same style. You may not like catagorisations, but people will do it whether you like it or not. Why? Because they SOUND THE SAME.

  • this song has guitar in it that sounds just like shine on you crazy diamond. but i like it.

  • Does anyone know of a place that has the EXACT lyrics to this song. I can make guesses at whats wrong and right, but some lyrics are opposing each other and i can't seem to figure out which is correct :/

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero buy the album

  • @JTbassist09 the album i have, does not have the lyrics...

  • @carlmanu I think songmeanings(dot)net has the correct lyrics.

  • @JTbassist09

The lyrics arent on the sleeve to be fair!

  • @JTbassist09 The lyrics aren't printed unfortunately.

  • @JTbassist09 album doesn't come with lyrics.

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero have you heard of google?

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero Buying the album wont help, no lyrics in the cover. Kenny changes the lyrics pretty frequently on stage...there are several slightly different versions.

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero

    azlyrics.com/lyrics/karnivool/deadman.html

    Enjoy. ;)

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero listen and listen carefully, isnt meant to make sense mate its Ian kenny ffs

  • @BrannDailorIsMyHero I saw your comment, the thumbs up from the poster, then I saw your name.

You're a winner. Just because of your name. <3

  • definatly the best prog rock album of 2010. every song is an absolute gem, hope that we see more of them

  • They've got a Dragonfly! Wicked, my two favourite bands Coheed and Karnivool both use Dragonflies as some sort of insignia. That proves they are genius's.

  • @MeetTheCryptid sorry to burst your bubble but the dragonfly thing is fan made. Karnivool use a fly for their themata album and is a bit of "insignia" but there is no dragonfly

  • @JTbassist09 Ahhh, right then. Thanks dood. I know they use a fly, I just thought it was one of those odd poster things.

  • @JTbassist09 Actually, there is indeed a dragonfly on the inside of the Themata CD. Not sure I'd make my music choices based on a bug though...

  • @MeetTheCryptid There is absolutely definitely a dragonfly at the end of the Shutter Speed clip, so keep the dream alive. The cool thing about dragonflies is that they are actually tiny little fire breathing dragons that haven't grown up yet.

  • @Darfaultner Oh cool.

  • @MeetTheCryptid and to further burst that bubble, C&C is shit.

  • @nsmith86uk Roflmao, your forgot the words '' in your opinion man''.

  • @MeetTheCryptid I eat Frosted Dragonflies on a somewhat regular basis, I know this elevates me to a higher state of being however I get diarrea and occasionally shit myself like any other human

  • @MightySaturn5 hahaha

  • @MightySaturn5 I gave you a thumbs up just for having the balls to something like that.

  • @MightySaturn5 Sounds like Ayahuasca.

  • @McMeevin great point

  • Been an avid, close listener since Themata. This whole album soars! This is the best band to ever come from our friends down under. KarniVool is now my favorite band. It's hard to stop listening to. It's that good. DeadMan is my favorite song from the SoundAwake album, the best ProgRock album of 2010.JMO

  • new album is too slow. love themata. this album seems "overproduced"

  • These guys are so much more than fantastic music. These songs have such a deep meaning and the lessons learned from them could last thousands of years.

  • At 1:44 he sounds like he has an english accent :) KARNIVOOL FOR LIFE :)

  • @LastCommand Well, he does have a huge aussie accent ;)

  • This is rediculous How can they write music this amazing.

  • Awh no "if you like the sound of..." at the end? Such a shame. It always gives me goosebumps when I reach the end of deadman... so beautiful. One of the best songs around it's the song that got me addicted to karnivool.

  • @mhbed5 the end isn't actually deadman, its change part one of their album themata

  • This is the nearest to the perfect song in its genre I have heard in a long while... I have to ration myself to once a day. I wish I knew what they were thinking when they wrote it. If it is a joint effort by the band... that makes it all the more impressive...because it has superb overall flow and little breathers in the right places. Keep going lads... I haven't been this excited about progressive music since the 70's....

  • I can listen to this song all day long, and it never gets old!!! Especially 2:04 to 2:32. Amazing

  • favorite song by them. this song has so many different rising actions. you can tell how great a band is by how long their songs are, and you get more music for your money

  • the background mixing at 8:04 is superb!

  • Themata, Deadman and Simple Boy, these songs are EPIC.

  • it's too late mayday! call out mayday...while i'm still alive

I love those lyrics! Can't wait to see them in a month

  • The next album will be the best. Karnivool are yet ot have their "lateralus" yet.

The signs of improvement point to the band gearing up for some epic music soon.

  • Nice....

  • buy this cd!!!

  • This song make me cry everytime!

  • @SazTheLegendOfDragon doesn't take much to make a legend cry now does it

  • Best song ever.

  • 4:42

  • @KeepGoing11235

4:51 through 6:27 ---reminds me of something Adam Jones would have laid down...i love it!!

  • stan marsh? - more like stan DARSH hah

  • lol karnivool isn't christian, obviously...

  • No I really thought they were untill this album came out. But I heard of them on steel roots along time ago.

  • I always thought these guys were a Christian band. Infact I saw them the first time on a Christian rock show in the states called "Steel Roots" on the Trinity broadcast Network. Its was the video for "Life Like", A really good video and song at the time, compared most of the rest of the crap on television at the time. This song is great, But I dont think it would make the playlist on "Steel Roots"

  • @klan56

Hate to burst your bubble but these guys are one of the most anti-religious band around. Their entire sound awake album carries EXTREMELY anti-religious tones, always telling the audience to "wake up" through subtle messages in the lyrics. You can see it if you look through the lyrics.

  • Yeah, I got that.

  • maby coz thats what YOU are looking for..? (to mwhite1994)

  • masterpiece...

  • This track is one of the reasons why Sound Awake is an improvement over Themata.

I still love love Themata, though.

  • @Aridcreaturehere The other reasons are New Day and Simple Boy.

  • march 23! hell yeah. get to see them for the first time @ scout bar!

  • Me gusta....es inevitable pensar en Tool... ahora si, no sister?

  • If anyone should tab the drums to this song, that person would be a true hero.

  • i can play it but no point tabbing.

    listen to it haha.

  • I tried, but I couldn't find the "WTF" button.

    ...

<---also would love to know rig and settings of Drew/Hoss/Stockman.

Like, really. You'd make my day if you have any idea, especially Re: stockman.

  • I thought nothing would ever be able to compete with Lateralus, and Karnivool have proven me wrong. The more I listen to this album, the more I love it. Nothing but respect and admiration for Karnivool.

  • @jlae111 this album and band is brilliant and amazing but Lateralus is in its own league. Lateralus blows my mind over and over again.

  • One of my favorites!

  • this has to be my favorite Karnivool song out of all of their albums, very well done

  • tool and karnivool are both rad i would love to see tool bring karnivool on your with them

  • what time is this in?

  • 4/4

  • HAHA, yeah... I'm dumb.. Tah.

  • Don't feel bad. It's 4/4 with a 2 to 3 polyrhythm, so it breaks down to what is essentially 6 being played over 4. That's why 2:18 or so it feels like they drop into a groove that's been there the whole time -- it has been. You just don't notice it 'til the downbeat/backbeat get locked in.

  • Exactly. you can essentially write anything to any time signature. The only thing certain time signatures carry with them is a basic sense of where the accented beats normally sit - which can be altered anyway.

  • Jesus. You got some ears man. :P

    You know your shit. thanks.

  • NP =) Glad to know some of the random crap I know is actually of use.

  • I would call it 12/8, with occasional duplets. There isn't much of an '8' feel, '12' definitely. And the middle section of this song is in 9/4. But they also use a lot of 'hemiola' (3 rhythms over 2 or 4 rhythms) in this section as well so I'm not sure what the best way of notating it would be. Something I read in an interview with the band tells me they probably don't worry over it and just play it. They said that their drummer will often just start playing something in a weird time signature.

  • @ishcairn: Actually the rhythm can be transcribed on paper in either 4/4 or 6/8, so it's not really one or the other specifically. And most of the song is 9/8 anyways, which begins at 3:45 and ends at 8:26.

  • @surfrusty12

Of course you're correct...as someone else mentioned, you can write anything in almost any way you want. Convention is to use quarter notes where possible since it's easier to write the greater subdivision (highest number) as eights. But convention isn't necessary =) It's just a damned awesome song, and I'm happy to leave it at that.

  • sounds like 6/8 to me

  • @Patrickhamilton It's the off beats that make it sound complex.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually it sounds like 12/8

For you math nerds, yes there is a big difference. 12/8 is a 4/4 with every quarter a triplet. But because it is difficult to count higher numbers in beat it feels better to just say 4/4. But if you have trouble with it count it out like this 1-2 3, 2-2 3,3-2 3, 4-2 3. It be in 12/8 guys, along with probably a few other of their songs.

This was my favorite song off of this album before the album came out, because of the amazing live performance.

  • The lyric does me cry... Beautiful...

  • I wish everyone would stop pitting Karnivool against Tool. Its 2 different bands people, both amazing in their own right. Stop comparing and arguing. Just kick back and enjoy the music.

  • Best Song Of Album...!!!The Album Has The Bests Songs...!Karnivool Have The Bests Album!

  • Let's not start ripping each other's faces, children. It's music for everyone...

  • They have so much more depth and emotion than tool. And I love tool. This band is truly astonishing

  • bullshit. You're a fucking moron.

Great band full stop, very very different from tool. Musically, every single member of tool is better, significantly better.

To say that any band has more depth and emotion than tool is stupid.

  • @synkronyk although i dislike comparing the two bands ..saying every member of tool is significantly better and no band has more depth/emotion is typical of a closed minded die-hard tool fan. adam jones is really not that great a guitarist, drew/hos > him, and ian kenny is much more melodic than maynard. danny and justin are better on drums/bass.. and certainly lyrically tool are better. both are fantastic bands, probably my favourite two.. and this is my 2nd fave Vool song :)

  • Karnivool is great in their own right, but their music is simply not as complex as recent Tool records. As far as emotion goes that's subjective, but you might want to give a listen to a song called, "Right In Two."

  • Comment removed

  • madness. Bring it on

  • "IT'S TIME WE ALL MOVED ON" .... love it.

  • "A fever, burning for more..." Love the way he sings that

    Great song...

  • I hope this comes out in the states like the last one did. I need a legit copy.

  • Their blog listed February 2010 as the US release date. I couldn't wait that long so I ordered a copy from Australia lol

  • Oh. I downloaded it. Can't afford 35 plus dollars or whatever. I'm shocked I found it first day. I'll make sure to buy it come February. Thanks for the info.

  • lol i can't help but get a little bit of satisfaction from the US release date lol, for once us australians don't have to wait for ever, particularly with tours like for example Tool is the best concert i've ever been to and they come out like once every 6 years and i have only just learned Tool are touring america again lol oh well karnivool and tool great bands, enjoy some actually quality australian music unlike the shit that shames us

  • I live in Canada and bought this album on eBay for about $20 US (including shipping).

  • I never thought to buy it on ebay. I can get a better deal on Amazon. I'll just wait for February and add to that sales count..

  • Wow, that's just fucking amazing.

  • 8:26 when he shouts our own -way-, when he hits the note for way it's just draw dropping how much emphasis he puts into it and how good it sounds when he hits it.

  • Did you hear the live version of this yet? He kills that note live!

  • That second OHHH NOO This cant be happening with the backing vocals is bloody brilliant sent shivers down my spine

  • wow these guys r similar to tool :)

  • the vocal harmonies r very well done..

very good song, i saw this live last june, karnivool are sick. During the 10 mins of this, i never get bored its so good!

  • love the whole song

  • *love* the ghost notes with the snares open at the beginning. sick.
