The ump called timeout mid-pitch, Beckett tried to stop and couldn't. He's not being suspended for the pitch, which was an obvious accident, he's getting suspended for taunting Abreu after Abreu bitched about it.

Wow, you're pretty retarded. Once the delivery of a pitch has been started, a pitcher can't just stop. To do so would put a major strain on the arm and potentially injure the pitcher. Beckett did the most reasonable thing and just throw the pitch up and away. You act like he directly threw it at Abreu's head, but it wouldn't have hit him, even if he stood still. A pitcher as good as Beckett won't accidentally miss his target. If he wanted to hit Abreu, he would have.
