Is this song about the joy of life or the sadness of death? my favourite music video ever, and i hope everyone who watches this gets the same feeling i do. Personaly its a happy song for me, enjoy.
buy the album, go somewhere quiet, crank up the headphones, listen to all 8 tracks straight through and I promise you will feel like you were in heaven for 60 min.
This song brings back painful memories of when I was flying on an airplane and the plane plunged to everyone's sure death, and then I just whipped it out and started beating it which lead to everyone else on the plane whipping it out and they started beating it too. So here we are moments away from our certain deaths and everyone's beating it but then the plane kicks back in and we land safely. No one ever spoke about it since.
cb9603: yes I remember that...then all the people on the ground felt your fear and pain and just whipped it out a gave a beat it ceremony for your whipped it out bravery.......
this might be a video into the future. so sad and at the sometime beautiful. because no matter how much we destroy ourselves children will always be children
This band is one of the few I can tolerate in the morning...when I have to wake up and put back on my silly man-suit and leave the endless sea of peaceful sleep. Helps me prepare for the world ahead, its silly concerns, its silly race.
How do they make this music, have heard a lot of this ambient trance stuff, and if anyone knows which programs or methods are used please leave me a message
This is not even remotely close to ambient "trance" (which is not trance at all).
Sigur Ros is considered a rock band for the most part. And it's pretty much impossible to call their music any one genre. It resembles film scores, more than anything.
yep we americans with taste and compassion are fighting an uphill battle mate
too much degradation. i feel too much despair for our society. I am too dissillusioned to be a part of it.
Then something comes along once in awhile and allows me to feel a whisper of a wind accross my face. This music which is that simple beauty for me shows me the hope that despair wrenches from me. Thank you Sigur Ros.
ha i shouldn't write when listening to good emotional music .. at least not for public use.
I too have felt that battle. Well said. I love writing to very moving music, it helps evoke the essence of me...perhaps the truth inside can escape the ego/fear that dwells within. Hard to admit that ego part, I have made great effort to divorce myself from it. But I digress, this is sublime music. It moves me to some sort of change...to some sort of hope. Afraid as I am for that bubble to burst. Damn this corporate driven world I live in, its so fuckin' backwards.
It is great to feel the vibrations beautifully course through me to my fingertips and take on a life of their own. Well said to you as well. It is a fragile path we walk; dependent on too many. Piling onto the middle and lower class as they stumble forwards and backwards in no direction. How long till we fall? We have all lost our god-given ability to think and live for ourselves. when we allow something to control an aspect of our lives (even in our minds) it truly owns us.
Indeed. We live such a quantified, manufactured existence. Constant bombardment by adverts ensures we will continue the cycle as consumers and fuel this terrible machine. We conform and forget ourselves all in the name of something that has no inherent value, just the one we gave it. That, to me, is the worst. For if one can do such a terrible thing to oneself....what else can we do to our brothers and sisters in our inevitable march towards apathy.
Once you compromise one value, one ideal, it is far to easy to do it the next time. We cannot win this game playing by the rules laid out. But, it feels like if you try to forge your own path, debt, the big NO, and lack start to swarm in. I have realized that once you start to glimpse this 'Big Picture'...how silly all this is, how defeating, well, its hard to not see it in every aspect of my day. I want to scream, and lash out, burn this system down. I don't know. We are worth so much more.
i dance to this song almost every friday at my modern class. my teacher, ashley, is such an inspiration. she always says the right things that inspires my class and I to excel into different zones in our body and learn to let go. and with this music playing in the background, it's perfect. lastly, this song is just so addicting, i don't think someone CAN'T like it. Don't watch the video, just listen to the music. So much comes out if it. use your ears, not your eyes.
I cry everytime I watch this. It's so sad to think that this is an actual possibility. And for those kids to not even be able to breathe oxygen from he air and all that. I can't even put it into words but it's just so sad!
the joy and sadness in this song make it somethink awe inspiring and something i will enjoy watching time and time again. This is my favourite music video over if not favourite piece of film. The Best for a good reason.
This video means so much to me, I can't believe the way it's interpreted. Gives true meaning to the words life and death. I absolutely love this depiction of their song. It puts me in awe.
I think thats what makes like song so great. you can interpret words according to your moods. I have friends who think this is a happy all be it mellow song. I say its a sad song.
well he uses some icelandic words but leaves out the most important parts and makes them up. so there is storyline but you decide how you want to end and feel. they give you a peice of paper, we all become the artists
I thing with that music we must find something positiv... :( i now that's hard becouse its so FUCKING SAD SOnG!!!!!!!!!!! But ... have something inside very :)
This will be our Europe after the US and Israelis have provoked a war with Russia. The missile defense system the US wants to set up in Poland and the Czech Republic will be for US defense only, possibly to defend Israel as well. But do the jews in New York really care about their brothers and sisters in Israel ?I don't think so, they are just being used as a tool. The people in control of the US don't care about human life. Bush is just a puppet, something evil lurks in the shadows of the USA.
could someone tell me what this video's about? the girl dies b/c she doesnt have a gas mask on? why do the children put the gas masks on to go out to play?
I first heard this song in Chicago...I've since come to Europe (and lost my music collection in the process...quite a loss, since this album must now be replaced!) My thanks for posting this! It's made my week!
89576 apparantley is a pole smoker since all he thinx about is callin gother people gay..he must have penis on the mind and plays with little boy's privates..must be a priest and has no taste in music..Sigur Ros rules...

If you like this song, the live version is even better... they have 2-3 different ways they do the ending and they're all great. Search it, there are a ton of vids.
There is no translation. He's not actually speaking in any language. The entire album "()" is made the same way. It's more about using the voice as an instrument than trying to convey a message per se.
no actually, if you listen to the () album, you'll find that while all of the "lyrics" are made up, the same "phrases" and consonant/vowel sounds are used throughout. That's because "Hopelandic" (as reviewers have dubbed it) is just a way for Jonsi to write vocal melodies before he writes actual lyrics. There is no literal "language" being used, whether made up or not. It's just that sometimes Jonsi chooses not to make actual lyrics, and chooses to use the vocal melody in the final version.
It's so...are there words to describe beauty such as this? Are there any words to describe the haunting music in which emanates into the room around me? I'm not sure if there is...but I know that my insufficient adjectives would never be able to descibe the emotions I feel when I hear this. All I can do is listen to it again and again and again and again...
man... they r talking about the fucked up situations that the childrens can't go out whitout theyr gas masks and the snow is black... it's about the poluations and our indifference about the planet!
i worship heavy metal but i cant explain how bad i love new age music, and i think its greater for me cuz its soooooo piecefull, this band is FUCKIN GREAT!!
Very powerful piece. Children find the best in every situation. Definately a song/video for the open minded. Sigur Ros never cease to amaze me with their concepts.
The proposed worst-case scenarion in the cold war, that two countries, maybemore, would use nuclear bomb technology so much that the ecosystem would collapse and everything would die.
Wow, that was a really powerful piece. The song always chilled me out and was a great listen when depressed, and this video goes along so well. It's absolutely wonderful. And being a total metalhead, it's really strange hearing me say these things. But I love this song, band, and video.
Its the best song in the world.

the language used on the album has an acutal name.
It Hopelandic. Its just words he makes up to suit the song. :).
xXxshitakiassholexXx 3 years ago
no actually, if you listen to the () album, you'll find that while all of the "lyrics" are made up, the same "phrases" and consonant/vowel sounds are used throughout.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about the Johnny B. being a homosexual. I don't think it matters. I mean the music he creats is just amazing.

Wow, that was a really powerful piece. The song always chilled me out and was a great listen when depressed, and this video goes along so well. It's absolutely wonderful. And being a total metalhead, it's really strange hearing me say these things. But I love this song, band, and video.

Floria Sigismondi (sp?) directed this one and some of the others that they do. Sigur Ros directs some of them themselves.
