My guess from it is that the box isnt just a box but some form of living learning thing such as what this girl finds. In the begining it says "Touch me please" and upon looking into it it adds a "program" of sorts into her(thats why their is the change to her eyes) and as it gets more and more information it takes away more and more of her mental stability as a side effect. Once it gathered all it could from one person it goes and seeks information from another. but this is just my theory.
