  • o r r e n d o!

  • It's difficult not to agree with you. But till now, this role seems to have been sung by such many barytones, that I think that the opera world has changed a bit....

  • I've never understood why some consider Raimondi a great singer, much less a great singing actor. His young voice did have a rich, handsome, coppery timbre. Those qualities had long since dried out when 63-year-old Raimondi made this video. And one cannot sing basso cantante without a bass register. His acting is OK at best. I think he was (is?) a dramatic baritone in the rough, who never found the right teacher to help him reach that potential. Just my humble opinion --

  • He is not quick enough when he makes the pic appears. looks stupid

  • à 2: 49 un silenzio totale dopo quale i coristi cantano : merci de ta chanson...

  • @bodiloto L'admiration,sans doute...Non?..

    Ciao!

  • Why? The are wearing sneakers? LoL!!!

  • defenetly slow conducting. Ruggero should sing to citizens and he didn t even look at crowd.

  • @milandinic1977 that is because mephisto gives the croud something to look at and sings his aria to the audience, just like: look I told you, the gold does that.

At least, that's how it looks to me ;-)

  • Raimondi is my favourite bass-baritone! Absolutely great, although I think, that at least the beginning of this aria was a little slow conducted, at least for my taste. I like the beginning to be faster. ^^

  • jamesmertins : Very good observation and comment !!

Still Ruggero was superb in roles which suited him - as you said.

  • @nnsochedirti "sembra belfagor"?hihihihihihihihihihihihihihi,

Buona Giornata sign raginema

  • Having sung with him in his production of Don Giiovanni and the Damnation de Faust I can say he is not a bass, more light bass-baritone. When he try's to sing the real bass roles his voice goes into dull mode and it flattens badly, listen to his Forza recording and Don Carlos to see what I mean but and it,s a big but It was at times a very beautiful sound when singing roles that suited him.

  • @jamesjmertins. You're getting red arrowed for this impudent remark, I'm not surprised. But it's true, Raimondi is no good at the bass repertoire, he's got no power under C3, even shameful for a baritone.

  • Seine Zeit ist vorbei!

  • i know he is not a tenor ,i said that just to illustrate that he is not a bass but a baritone

  • it's funny, you mentioned him being a tenor, may be, you are right. I just listened to one tenor, here on youtube, singing le veau d'or. believe me, much better then Raimondi(though the orchestration was quite wierd, some kind of a rock type)

  • interesting and funny, who is that tenor? tibett s version is better too.

  • Tibett had amazing voice of a great quality, his relatively short career was due to his 110% giving. The tenor's name is Franco Tenelli-weird version but vocals to my view better then one of Raimondi's

  • Do you mean a baritone pretending to be a full basso, or a bass-baritone pretending to be a full basso?

  • ...ghiaurov, christoff, neri, pinza, de angelis...dove me li metti allora?

  • His tone sounds very strained! I'm not sure what he's doing it's not easy sounding, it's sounds raspy!!

  • The performance is strangely staged, but Ruggero Raimondi is great as always! His performance is not geriatric and his tone is not flat. As for his French pronunciation, let's not nitpick, OK? When you all start singing as beautifully as he does, then you have the right to criticize his singing.

  • Ruggero is going to be a great...tenor soon ! I saw him 3 times in recital, younger, and it was fantastic so let's be nice with this great artist.

  • How come?? he was a bass - then he signs Toreador, and now you predict he will be a tenor soon?????

  • Nah, he was never a bass. Hear his La Calunnia, compare it to Ghiaurov's, and you'll see for sure that Raimondi is, well not really bass-baritone, but one idea lower than baritone lol. Anyways, I'm not a fan of his singing.

  • how come no applause? where was this performance?

  • I think you are grossly mistaken. Sera por la interpretacion...

  • Geriatric performance and doesn't sing french....

  • His tone is pretty desiccated, and he's often flat. Also, the conductor is having trouble keeping pit and stage in sync.

  • Mr. Raimondi is stil in the very good shape! Brava!
