Hmm...we have a new casino in atlantic city, non union...they were helped by the state to continue construction in return to create jobs,.but they are only hiring employees with a 4-5year employment so u have to reapply and they dont have.to take.u in...wtf
Idaho teachers and other public employees are dealing with a recall issue similar to the one faced by Wisconsin union workers. Your version of Billy Bragg's song is uplifting. Thank you.
I support the tax payers -- the farmers and other private workers have nothing in common with blood sucking public employee unions! This law will stand!
@Mandolin1944 You don't understand that there are multiple ways of wealth creation. There is money generated to pay the pockets of the rich, and there is wealth generated in the way of public services generated for people like you (unless you think you don't benefit for that, which is not true). Police to protect your property, firefighters, teachers to tech you, your kids or the kids of your neighbor. In any case, they produce wealth in the society, since they add value in every step.
@MegaKakadevaka Thank you for the comment but I understand plenty. There is no need of public employee unions -- there are 300,000 Federal workers in the USA and they are public employees too!. By law US federal workers have no unions to bargain for salary or benefits. So State workers don't need them either. Now the unions have demanded benefits that can't be paid for -- now everyone is screwed and there will b reduced pensions. The unions screwed the the workers -- the scumbags!
@Mandolin1944 Your logic is not sound. I would push for federal workers to also have unions. The US needs more unions, no less. The US is, in the industrialized western world, the country with less unionized workers of all (which explains a lot of what is going on, and with less unions, less power for the working class and more power for the rich and their multi-million campaign donations). Also, the governor didn't wanted to negotiate (the unions wanted). He just wanted to destroy the unions.
@MegaKakadevaka My logic is not sound -- says who? You presented no counter arguments just your opinions. The USA has the least unionized workers in the Western world and is doing the best -- the countries with the most unions like Greece are in total collapse. Countries with NO UNIONS like China are doing great. Unions are useless and a drag on civilization. That is why the right-to-work states have all the jobs and unionized states are in the tank. Unions are for union bosses.
@Mandolin1944 China is doing great?. Really?, WHO in China?. Read more about China and hear less propaganda. Now your public institutions are a whore to the service of the corporations and the rich: Wars at the service of corporations, Tax codes at the service of the rich and corporations (so the poor and middle class pay the bill), privatization of services, underfunded public services. Read also more about US history. The best period in terms of economic growth was when UNIONS where strong.
@MegaKakadevaka With all due respect -- are you delusional? China WILL be the world's #1 economic power in less than a decade -- India will be #2. Now those are FACTS, not propaganda. THAT is what we are taking about -- not human rights. And I probably know more about US history then most public school history teachers (which is not saying much). Economic growth has NOTHING to do with unions. What's your proof of that? What's more this is about PUBLIC employee unions no ALL unions.
@Mandolin1944 Unions help distribute wealth. Since wealth and power are more distributed in society, there is more purchase power. Capital then, focus more on real production to meet that demand. When rich people get all the wealth, they also consume but less as a percentage. So Capital focus on speculation (like before WWII and now). Best period of economic growth and stability in US history is 1950-1970, just when labor was stronger. About China and India... That's progress for a few.
@MegaKakadevaka You keep trying to make the argument about human rights not economic power. China's civil rights policy is irrelevant. They are the most powerful economy in the world today -- end of story. In the USA , states with right-to-work are growing (Texas, South Carolina) and states with Union control are collapsing (California, Michigan, New Jersey). Unions are not needed, not part the solution. They are part of the problem. Public unions (like Wisconisn) are totally worthless.
Awesome! My school district's board just stuck it to the teachers because they now have nothing to bring to the table and the board won't bargain anyway. At least this song made me feel hopeful tonight...
