  • Hold the F up. This Olivier guy's rating is 2215? How about 1015?

  • Schlager seems like such a nice guy.

  • 2: 17 service werner is amazing! crack!

  • table tennis is soo metal!

  • Werner's backhand owns

  • envy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i know what it's like... i hate it when i am playing on a floor that is full of dust...

  • this guy playing with pips is a disgrace for the sport lol

  • the guy with a guitar printed on his shirt is the worst 2200 i have ever seen because Werner was just playing ping pong with him

  • @vagabond1200 ... and you think that Werner would have to play you seriously .. HHAHAHA ....easy to pass judgment just watching a video .. what a moron ,,,Vagabond1200 == village idiot LOL

  • @vagabond1200 - Vagabond - Really ignorant comment, there's no such thing as a "worst" or "best" 2200 (unless you're talking about someone who has sat upon a rating without playing in tournaments and let their skills erode or someone who's rating temporarily hasn't caught up with their abilities because they're improving very quickly). Ratings are earned in competition, they're not a purely subjective thing or something that can be as easily manipulated like a golf handicap.

  • @vagabond1200 - Oliver - That looked like a real serve at 4:35.

  • Why aren't you use your forehand? foreside = back (??), backside = back (ok)

  • @109eh I'm not using my forehand too much because it sucke!

  • @109eh I'm not using my forehand too much because it sucks!

  • but when you are useing your forehand then you don`t have to move your body!!!

    It´s easier

  • @109eh sorry for my english I am German

    you know!!!

  • Can you tell me why you had the possibility to play with Schlager?

  • Wow, the quality of those backhand loops is just astonishing. Most of them just zip by and you don't even flinch... you seem mesmerized. I guess Werner's backhand loops are just that much stronger than the typical 2000-2400 level loops you're used to seeing, huh?

  • @SchemeSC There really is no comparison even between 2400 level and wold class. I just beat a 2478 player in a tournament and should be close to 2300 myself after the tournament is processed. The main difference is placement and the amount of spin. The serves (if Werner serves seriousely) are also close to impossible to return, even for a long pips player like me..

  • grandsportc3 - I am surprised that you have a rank with the level of your game:)

  • @lopezrodriquez Stupid people happens every day .. you are stupid

  • 3:42 EPIC SERVE !!!!!!!

  • lol this is awesome

  • Schalger rules

  • haha i cant believe you guys think this is really schlagar haha.

  • @mohdban

it´s definitely schlager. he speaks in the same way like he does in interviews

  • @mohdban that is him you fool they are old pals

  • What is that on his neck? Noticed he always wears it.

  • @ppalavichkoo If I recall correctly, it's a gold necklace..

  • one of the most astonishing videos of schlager so far =)

nice play and nice luck for you ;)

  • nice schlager is a great player what was the score

  • how can you get to play with schlager

  • @TimoBollTri I went to high school (technical high school for electrical engineering in Wiener Neustadt) with Werner as I grew up in Austria.. We have been friends ever since.. When he came to the US to play at the Spinvitational in Chicago, he first went to Florida to visit me and when he was here we got to play for a little bit..

  • @grandsportc3 Cool! :D

  • you can tell schlager is a humble guy...awesome

    watch?v=ln-pvbdjDj8

  • u god damn lucky bastard :D

  • Schlager my favorite player he is the best

  • this is your home??

  • @dungabaez13 Well, that's one of my garages attached to the home..

  • Its nice to see that video again after one year. I am playing verly well lately. Only my service is still bad. Wish a player like Schlager would help me to push it up, lol. How is your onw game going Olivier?

  • @Miguel53de I've been playing the best I've ever played.. Just became Florida State Champion 2 weeks ago. I'm number 10 in Florida right now and should have my highest rating ever once the North American Team Championships will be processed (and the Florida State Closed re-processed with the changed ratings from the Teams)

  • @grandsportc3 wow thats great. Is tehre any video one can see you playing now???

  • well, i wonder what your dear friend said about your skill and playing style.

  • i'm just interested to know how you tricked him into your garage to play with you. lol

  • @rottie No tricking necessary.. We have been friends since childhood! I was born in Austria and went to school with Werner

  • @grandsportc3 Nothing criminal meant lol. But, awesome, having a world champion as your friend. Invite me to your house for Xmas if Werner is coming. BTW did you take the opportunity to ask him for a few tips? Share with us.

  • @rottie Werner is not coming this year but I might see him in 2011 when I'll be in Austria (hopefully). He invited me to train at the Werner Schalger academy (for free of course)..

  • even though he is your friend and you play for fun....... he should give you like a 90 point handicap lol...... I would cringe at the speed of those balls coming back at me

  • Are you kidding me?! Werner Schlager in your garage? Must be nice. Would you say he has a better backhand? I actually have his autograph on my paddle case from seeing him in Florida at one of the US Opens when they still had the 38mm ball, but I can't say that I've ever played against him. I can honestly say he's never beaten me before. -Jim

  • @jwendt2003 His backhand is his strongest weapon. I've been friends with Werner since childhood. The difficult part is to get him to play serious.. It's so easy for him to play against me, he doesn't even need to try. Well, he is 2840 rated or so in the US and I'm over 600 points lower than him.. It looks similar when I'm playing a 1600 player.. 600 points rating difference is huge..

  • LOL, this guys 2215?

  • look at this here avatz (dot) net change (dot) to .

  • @LilWayneMetalGod Doubtful. He is a pushblocker. You can only do so much with it. A strong looper or someone who attacks his wide backhand would beat him very often.

  • sorry, spelled your name wrong, olivier. still an awesome video

  • thank you very much for posting, oliver. this video is awesome. really awesome. and cool.

  • why dont you use your forehand?

  • OOOOOH MY GGGGGOD!!! :DDDDD

Schlager in ya garage. NOW I see the difference :D Theres no serve that Sclager cant attack...

  • smels like god damn nazia in the house.

  • It is good to see Schalager. I think if you could push block the ball closer to the net with your long pips, Schalager would have had a harder time. Thanks for your clip. I see Schalager using high angle loop to defend against your long pips in the game. Your clip gives me a better understanding about how to fight against loong pips.

  • i hate playing with pushblockers

and what i hate even more than playing with pushblockers is playing with dirty pushblockers witn strange rubbers soiled up with sprays and stuff like this

  • and this man is not 2100-2200 us rating. He can't be with his skill level: no forehand, no footwork

  • @antoshadon Why didn't you just look him up. I really hate ignorant people. He is 2100 rating. That doesn't mean anything. Anyone can reach 2500 in the U.S. with training. Anyone who uses Long Pips should reach 2300 eventually in their TT career of 5+ years. It's not hard you just have to keep playing.

  • @LookB3hindU I don't know why you call me ignorent. I did look him up and I saw his rating. I think that there is a big difference in the lvl of players corresponding to their rating in different states. There are some world class coaches and players that live in Washington, Texas etc. and the overall level of play is much higher, so you need to work much harder to gain good rating. Most people who are 2400 lvl in WA have been pro players in other countries, so only most tal. reach over 2000

  • @antoshadon Look at your statement you said he wasn't at the 2100-2200 US Rating. And he clearly is according to usatt records. That's whay I was arguing. There's no doubt that Washington and Texas have high level players, but so does Florida. There are a lot of great players from there.

Most players travel outside of state to other tournaments so I disagree with you on the no reaching 2000+ level. If you're smart you go to a Round Robin Tourny and that usually gets you up in rating.

  • @LookB3hindU I worded it my statement wrong, I suppose. What I ment is I personally don't think that he deserves such high rating. In my opinion, playes that I've seen and played in WA who were over 2000 were few orders of magnitude better then him. Again, it is only my opinion. May be he is one of those players who's game looks ugly and yet it is effective. I am just not impressed with what I've seen in his videos and I am trying to figure out how what I think is so different from actuality

  • this is so owesome!! I did NOT think this was for real before I saw it! But this is Shlager... and he is playing in the basement... and he is wearing jeens... Funniest thing a saw in the while!!!

  • super... ich bin neidisch. ;-)

  • I should dislike this out of pure jealousy. Lol.

  • Can I ask why you don't use your forehand?

  • I can not believe Schlager played in the garage :))))))

  • Ahh, both players very skilled. I have one question - what equipment did mr. Werner Schlager use at this moment?

    Thank you.

  • aaoow, i also want to have a Schlager kept in my basement ´:(

  • Wow, Werner is incredibly skilled.

  • wooaaahh!! I love this hahah! funny ..

  • if you play against an ordinary player, you will also start playing ordinary! This is what I saw here.

  • spielsch nen anti oder noppen? :D

  • Wow, you know, for the first 15 seconds, I thought this was sort of a joke and you had a Schlager lookalike there and were kind of joking with us. When he turned around, I thought, "Wow, that really does look like him," and then on his first forehand server at around 1:25, I said, "Yup, that's Schlager!" Really nice video :)

  • Nice too see that even a world top player can have a good time playing with his friend in the garage. :) As said earlier, ur a lucky man that knows schlager, but friends are friends. I am a big fan of schlager and wishes both of u the best of luck!!

  • thats the great thiing about most of top players they are good at sprot but out of that matter they are good persons

  • You are a lucky one for sure... Werner seems to be a nice guy :)

  • thank you!

  • thank you!

  • U ARE ONE LUCKY MAN....

  • ohhhhhhh

and how you got to play against?

  • have you ever played tt before?:D

  • schlager is a very good person he's not like most professional sportsmen who are caught up in the fame and become too good for everyone else he is one of the greatest people to play the game

  • Dude, you're so lucky!!! Werner Schlager is my favorite player of all times! :'(

    Greetings from Costa Rica!

  • great video!!!i wish i can play wiv world class player..the strongest player that i have ever meet is duan yong jun, former commonwealth champion.

  • dude u seriously need a forehand, otherwise ur just ganna be tt practice to people

  • Comment removed

  • It would've been better if you were a somewhat more conventional player... pretty sweet still. Thanks for the upload!

  • still funny and nice to see that friends are friends. Good luck from Canada where I am nowerdays playing. But please grandsportc3, can you give me the link to see about the US-Ranking? Thanks a lot.

  • @Miguel53de I'll e-mail you the link as links are not allowed in comments..

  • lol ur not 2215

  • @haydonlee93 You are right! I'm 2225 now.. Check my rating on the USATT website.. If you are the Haydon Lee that played at the NA Teans, I actually played against your team last November and I didn't get to play you as we already won 5:1 or so and I didn't get to play the last match. I played 15:3 in Div. 4... If you want, I play you for $1000 at the next NA Teams!

  • @grandsportc3 haha i know i was just kidding. i rember u were the defensive dude. i never played you but i played some other dude on your team.i cant remeber if i won though, i played so many games that tournament. ill play you in one year for $1000!

  • @haydonlee93 You played 1:1 againt us.. You beat Khurram Khan but lost to DJ Settle. I know that you are getting better and better as you are still young, so, it might be a good match if we play at the 2010 teams!! :-D

  • @grandsportc3 haha i was wondering how u got to meet wit h werner schlager

  • @haydonlee93 Werner is a childhood friend.. We went to school together in Austria and have been best friends ever since. He is the one who gave my my first real paddle when we were about 14.. Since I moved to the US, I have only seen him at the 2001 and 2002 US Open and on my 2002 Austria visit. Last year, before Werner went to the Spinvitational in Chicago, he (with his girlfriend and son) stayed with me a couple of days before flying to Chicago!

  • @grandsportc3 wow ur a lucky man!

  • @haydonlee93 Werner is a good guy! He hasn't changed over the years that I've known him.. I'll probably see him later this year as I'm planning on going to Austria for a week or 2!

  • @grandsportc3 werner seems like a humble and honest player. good luck on your visit to austria

  • it's a big difference between rating 2215 to 2800 ish or higher. (I would guess for Schlager) , based on Lupulesku is about 2700 ish. those 600 points would meant something!? I wish I could have a world ranked child -hood buddy who can teach me a few pointers in my basement. :P

  • @caieros It's indeed a huge difference.. There's even a big difference between the best in the US and the best in the world. The US is not a big Table Tennis country... If I play against a 1600 player, the 1600 player will look as bad as I look against Werner.. It's also a 600 points difference..

  • how or why you play with him und du sprichst deutsch shcreib mir zurück ^^

  • What tornament is this? I have never seen his opponent before

  • @Galimah Tournament?? This was in my garage!!

  • @grandsportc3 i see, some kind of local tournament then. I know one of the players are pretty good, i have seen him before

  • haha oh the ethan im talking about is ethan chua, 2200

i definitely agree, your style is VERY deadly.

i play long pips, so i should at least know a little how they act. but even me, a long pip player, would be hesitant to play against you

keep playing those long pips Mr. Mader :)

  • I know about Ethan Chua but have never played him. Would be a interesting match! I usually do pretty good against junior players as they don't have as much experience against styles like mine..

  • hahahah samson i would like to see you play this guy. he is must be super tricky mixing up the spins/pace with long pips

i would even like to see ethan try... he would get frustrated fer sure

  • I've played a Ethan lately but I don't know if it's the same one.. The one I played was Ethan Jin at the San Diego toruanemtn last year.. He was about 2130 or so and I beat him 3:0

  • wow you are your rating is 2215? can't believe it! no disrespect tho. wow having somebody like shlager in your basement... that is awesome!

  • Have been over 2000 since the year 2001... My game looks horrible, I know, but is very effective..

  • I believe it is! Well very effective against non world champions anyway!

  • r u srsly 2215?????

  • @MyHeroSamson

i checked his rating and he is

  • dude he must of not played for a long time because last time i checked, that ^^^^^^^^^^ is not 2215 -_- well no offense.

  • I can't believe it. The ACTUALLY Schlager that beat KOREAN JOO WTTC 2003. Can't believe Ma Lin lost to a defender.

Werner has the best serves you have ever seen. His serves are his strongest in "his" game. XD

  • schlager carbon blade= $104.99

    tenergy 05 rubber= $56.99

playing with schlager in your garage=PRICELESS

best video EVAR....... thats freakin awesome dude..... i'm so jealous :)

hey next time he's over, call me... i'll bring gifts...lol

  • I have Timo Boll and Ma Long comming over later to watch some 1980's horror movies... then I'm going to spot them both 8 points and destroy them anyway

  • my question is what the hell is schlager doing in your garage?

  • He is a good friend of mine.. We went to high school together and have been best friends since that time.. However, since I moved to the US, I haven't seen him too much except when he visited the US or when I visited Austria..

  • How the hell did yo get to play schlager in your basement?

  • @ASDEW1880 I think he's friends with Schlager. From what I've gathered in other comments. It would make sense why they're playing in someone's basement because I doubt this was some sort of contest cuz otherwise I'd have been on top of it.

Seriously Schlager is one of the few inspirationial European players left. He knows how to have fun with the game which so many European players have lost.

Also I gather they're friends as they're speaking french if I'm not mistaken.

  • @LookB3hindU

the speak german^^ but with austrian dialect

  • @Salzstange87 Ah thanks. I was still wondering if I'd ever heard Schlager speak french. I didn't know if they were just speaking too fast for me to understand or if they were speaking another language.

  • Nice.

  • does he actually use the "off the shelf" schlager carbon????

  • or is it custom made for him specifically?

  • it's a Schlager Carbon with slightly thinner inner core to match his desired weight of 91 grams for the blade. It matches exactly the Primorac Carbon!

  • Schlager- my favorite player ever. Coolest guy!

  • mine too dude :) i play his wood :)

  • nice vid ;-) Werner Schlager is very cool!

  • Umm... Lol.. how many TT players are there in us?? 2215??? haha.. just kidding... werner schlager is way to strong.. anyway... TIMO RULES!! XD

  • I'm actually about #260 of about 8000 tournament players in the USA.. 2215 is a Rating, not ranking!

  • @Gonxa2002 Rating doesn't mean ranking.

  • hello! i forgot to ask about Schlager's necklace/bracelet. What brand is it? thanks...

  • I'd have to ask him when I talk to him the next time.. I didn't pay attention to it..

  • thanks...

  • saugeil!!!

    werner ist der grösste !!!

  • Comment removed

  • That is surreal! I must come to your house to play!!!

  • sure, come on over :-D

  • I cannot bring myself to believe that your rating is over 2000. You don't seem to know how to play. What kind of backhand is that? Have you ever taken professional training before?

  • I've been over 2000 since 2001 and didn't lose to anybody below 1960 since and have wins over 2350 and several 2200 players. I also had a 2521 player 2:0 and lost close in 5 against him... My style doesn' tlook impressive.. Check

    outpost81dot com/James_Therriault_vs_Peter_Chen_Part1_GSO.wmv

  • @grandsportc3 Then what is your trick to win?

  • I usually make little mistakes.. If I make less mistakes than my opponent, I win.. Check my other videos against quality opponents..

  • It sounds like you guys are both playing with hardbats, but I suppose that's just because of the garage acoustics.

  • My garage is pretty low and it makes it sound different..

  • awesome! 5s

  • Is he using Tenergy on both sides?

  • Yes, he uses Tenergy 05 on both sides!

  • Love this video!!!

Anymore videos of pros playing in a garage setting?
